What is this game about?

So what’s this game about then? I mean, what’s the point of it? It can’t be about a real world driving experience because there are cars available in the game that aren’t allowed on public roads and I can do things that just aren’t possible in the real world like drive a Lamborghini on the beach or dive a La Ferrari off road through a forest. These cars and most of the others in the game simply wouldn’t work in these environments, never mind being able to go as fast as they could on a race track. So is it, as some have said, about the freedom to drive anything anywhere, the ultimate petrol head fantasy of just you, your favourite cars, your best friends and the open road? I don’t think it can be because if you were going to make a game based on that petrol head fantasy why would include traffic to get in the way and spoil everything? There is a lot of immature antisocial stuff going on like wreckage skills (because driving through fences requires so much ‘skill’) and street racing (been there, done that), so maybe this game is for all those ‘hoonigans’ out there. There’s not much new stuff that wasn’t in FH2 and what new features there are have been blatantly copied from other games, so I can only assume that this game exists purely to look pretty and make loads of money for Microsoft.

Like many open-world games, FH3 is a power fantasy. You basically colonize an abridged Australia with YOUR Horizon festival, and you do it by racing and discovery. The main gameplay is, of course, performance driving. You open up more and more racing events and “PR stunts” (e.g., jumps, drift and speed zones) which gain you fans, which then in turn allow you to expand your festival–to new levels and locations. Eventually, your map will fill with interesting things to do. Your garage should fill up with fun cars to drive as well.

Edit: If you were expecting something radically different, it’s not the game for you.

People buy games to have fun playing them. Pretty simple. And you actually can drive a lambo on the beach, it’s just that 99% of the population don’t have the actual cash to do it IRL.

FH3 on the surface seems very similar to FH2. But its under the hood that the game shows how different (and IMO how much better) this third entry is.

Forza is in the same ranks as most sports games. To the casual observer, little changes between games other than the roster and locations. But for those who play these games a lot, there are considerable differences with each one.

If you are interested in the differences between FH2 and FH3, there are plenty of threads which discuss exactly that.

For me it’s about being the only free roam game with realistic driving physics.
Of course there are tons of other things that make this game amazing but that, for me, is the biggest thing that makes it strand out from other racing games.

Its what you want to make it.

It’s precisely for the reasons you negate that the game exists. If you want a more disciplined approach to racing, that would be Forza Motorsport 6. But this game is all about being able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, except we do it with cars and slightly exaggerated physics. Short of experiencing g-forces and other moving phenomenon difficult to convey through controller or wheel haptics, this game delivers as one of the most fun to play racing game ever !!

Really? You haven’t taken a look at the auction house, the storefront, and some other community-requested features?

Look, I know you’re looking for brand-new “innovative” features, and not just trying to one-up the things the competitors have, let’s say they’re NFS and The Crew, and I know this by your posts here and here.

Here, let me ask you this: would you like a game that has nothing but new stuff brought to the table, yet all of those features are such a glitchy mess?

Eh, the Auction House is a returning feature and so is the Storefront. Granted they haven’t gotten the Storefront completely right, but it’s a step in the right direction. All they need to do is copy and paste the FM4/FH1 Storefront with a slight UI update.

You’re blind if you think FH3 is no different from FH2. That or you just aren’t very observant.

Considering your Forza score, you must have played most Forza titles and should have had a well-informed idea of what Horizon 3 would be about. If you use one of the main features (blueprint races) you can turn off traffic if it spoils your fun. For freeroaming I really prefer the given traffic, else it would look rather empty around you, wouldn’t it?

For me this game is about freeroaming in a great and beautiful scenery with fantastic dream-cars I can’t afford myself, having fun racing with friends and strangers in a variety of races and games. I generally enjoy the aesthetics of the game and the freedom to create custom bucket lists and races.

So… what you thought this game would be about? What were you expecting, what are you missing?

I would agree that the development wheels turn slowly at Turn10 when it comes to UI, new feature integration, and interface updates. However what Turn10 does right they do very well.

They have excellent attention to detail, a good, well crafted physics model, and a stable of vehicles that caters to every taste in every game.

IMO I wish they would scale back their super fast release schedule and double down on new game development with the extra time but I doubt that will happen.

FH3 and F6 are fantastic games but I have grown weary of the interfaces and tuning mechanics that are getting very old. It’s not that they don’t work it’s just that they’ve been regurgitated too many times to justify the $100s of dollars I spend every year on the games. I’m sure I’ll keep buying them but one can hope that F7 will truly bring in some fresh ideas to combine with the mechanics that work so well.

I think its extremely similiar.

I can pretty much guarantee that the focus of forza 7 is going to be the 4k graphics on the scorpio and possibly the edition of snow because horizons getting it.

If you want to collect all cars it´s a long term grinding game  reminds me of an asia grinder for racers lol…

i just checked my collection… 373 in garage, missing 36 cars (and some HE cars).

The 36 cars i just can buy in the game are atm 109.983.000 credits… that would take around 220 Laps on goliath (for me at least with an HE Credit Car).
i can´t do more than 3 laps a day until i fall asleep, so this will be around 74 more days to finish my car collection (+/- some days maybe from wheelspin money).
after that… some more millions to get all HE cars.

so it seems i have a target. when i don´t die from boredom before…

Fh3 is fh2 in a different location and with slightly different bells and whistles. Overall it’s pretty much the same game with a bit more freedom in what you want to do.
Personally I look at the forza franchise as two branches: simulation(motorsport) and arcade(horizon). Motorsport is for the hardcore racers, and horizon for people like me that like a relaxed drive around.

As for why fh3 exists, I say why not. If you like it, cool. If not, get a refund, sell your copy, don’t buy it in the first place.
I can bet that fh4 will be much the same as fh3, just in a different location, and yes I will most likely be pre ordering it as well.

If you’re unhappy with fh3, try out other driving games. There must be one that has what you’re looking for in a driving game.
