What is the deal with requiring Drift events?

Drifting is the dumbest thing ever invented. Why do I have to do events that go against properly driving a vehicle from one point to another? I can barely get one great drifting skill, let alone get 5 ultimate for the Getting Sideways event. I guess it doesn’t matter that they changed the points and now I can’t get all the points for the Series, because there is no way I’ll ever get this dumb thing accomplished. I also see one of the daily challenges is to 3 star a drift zone too, yeah sure, like that will ever happen. I was going to try and get all the points for Spring, since they supposedly fixed the Arcade, but I see that will never happen. I would have been real mad if Arcade had been working all Series, and I had all the points, but couldn’t finish the Series out, because they put these ridiculous drifting requirements in the last Season. At least put them in the first season of the Series, so I know right away I have zero chance that Series. It’s so irritating that in a driving game, they put this in. I drive correctly, I can’t teach myself how to drive improperly and ruin a good set of tires. So frustrating.

I can understand your POV, but then I also remember not liking drifting in FH4 until I figured out how to do it properly, then I absolutely loved it.

I think with a lot of people who struggle with drifting, it’s simply a case of using some combination of the wrong car, wrong tune, or wrong settings. Once I got that stuff right, after a bit of practice I went from struggling to 3 star any drift zones to easily being able to 3 star them all, and it’s not like I had to put in hours of work to get good at it.

I used to suck at drifting then something in my brain clicked and I was able to control the car. Almost essential to be on a game controller. I can’t drift using my wheel but on a game controller it’s easy and I’ve completed all of the Drift accolades.

Many of the drift tunes people post are rubbish. Look out for a tune by Don Joewon Song for the Hoonicorn V2. This is my go to car for farming skill points mostly by drifting.

I really like the Formula Drift Viper. There’s a tune that’s called something like “First Gear V2” where you literally just stay in first gear. Turn traction/stability control off, put the car in manual, stay in first gear, and with a little practice you can 3 star every drift zone with ease.

My favourite drift car, although I use Gears 5, 6, and 7.

I used to struggle badly, as I need to use Automatic Gears when driving due to my hands and fingers shaking and losing grip…(caused by disabilities).

But I thought I’d try using a one gear drift tune without traction control, stability and manual gears… And with a few minutes I was getting 3 stars. I left it for ages after 3 staring them, but when fortune island arrived I went back to it… and just drifted up and down the mountain. Next thing I knew I was 1% on all drift zones.

OP honestly I was like yourself but overtime I grew to love it, and understood the hype. Going sideways is really fun, and doing tricks more so.

Don’t give up… you will get there. Feel free to ask for tips and tuning guidelines… the community will help.

I must admit I am a pro driver but a noob drifter. I should give drifting a go though as I believe a huge portion of the player base are drifters.

I use the corvette drift car stock and find it easy, and apart from 1 part the rest is correct instinct ie steer into the turn.

Also you only have to drift if going for full completion and if you have decided to go full completion then try to learn.

I would go to the runway and zip zag up and back a few times.

Maybe look for youtube how to drift in forza videos.

In a previous game I found a “beginner” drift tune and got confidence that way.

lol. You don’t have to do it. You just won’t get those season points. Otherwise you can just sack up and stop complaining about having to take 10 minutes out of the week to do a drift event.

Why is so important to get 100% season completion? i just dont get it. What rewards do we get achieving 100%?

Drag Racing is more dumb…

  1. As others have said, giving up on 100% completion (of anything) will greatly increase your fun with this game.

  2. But, if you want to do this… one way to accomplish the ultimate drifting skill if you can’t manage to actually drift for that long, is to drift off a hill. Gravity will make you slide much longer.

  3. The drift zone… that is one to either really try for (the formula drift cars indeed are very good for this). Or I refer you back to ‘1’

Drifting … hmmm … used to hate it in any game I played until FH4 and even there it took me quite a while to get to grips with it. Now I just hang around to catch Arcade drift events.
Yeah so the tables have turned, what did it … proper tune, that took ages to find and understand it.
So from having maybe just few 3 stars in FH4 drift zones, to finish them all without too much hassle, to have my own tune and 3 star everything on first try in FH5.

Ultimate drift skills in an event - I got there just to tick off something from playlist and proceeded to focus just on that. Wasn’t actually looking at score board on first race, but at the end found myself 2nd. Then just focused on having fun on next two rounds, with winning 1 and coming in second on last, to win the event.

And um … I “drive” with keyboard.

About the playlist, it has too many requirements of acquired taste and imo the trial is rated way too high here.

If you’re having trouble getting the ultimate drifts, you can get them off road. You may need to start the drift on the road, just keep it going for the 5 seconds or so off road without hitting anything.

I just to hate drifting in FH until I bought the CarX Drift Racing game, got some feeling with drifting and tried out my newly accomplished skills in FH5.

Now I’m starting to like it, or at least I’m able to keep the car on the road while drifting now.

Not keen on drifting myself, but three-starred the rest of the drift zones and then some in the Twerkstallion (road and dirt) yesterday, more than passing the necessary total to achieve such an end. Not an achievement I ever managed in Horizon 4.

However, for every one time I drift quite well, there will be five where I make a complete mess of it.

I can 3 star all the drift zones easily, but do I care about 100% completion… haven’t even tried.

Turn off all assists and use a powerful RWD car. Problem solved.

Drifting is not really about driving improperly. It’s about driving the specifically tuned car in a different way.

If you do struggle getting drifting skills, maybe my little beginner’s guide can help: https://youtu.be/RiIr9e3O8mI

It won’t make you a great drifter, but would allow to cross off any drifting requirements (as well as 3-star any drifting zone) without hassle and move on (and there’s a slight chance you’ll actually like drifting in the process  ).

I hate drift too, I have watch many video teaching how to drift, and put a lots time on practicing, still sucks.
With the best car with best tunes, I can only 3 stars drift zones that require 100,000 points or less. And most time, I got 3 stars by luck.

I feel you man

I’ll give you a different answer. The others are not wrong but use the “drift like a drifter” method. I use more of a “drift like a moron” method. It is unsubtle but good enough for all zones including the seasonal requirements in FH4 but it is not good enough for competing in FH4. It is aimed at minimising effort, learning time and skill required.

Set-up. You get the 1986 Hoonigan Ford RS200 Evolution for free. Do an auto-upgrade to max S2. Go to a big open area. Set steering to normal, braking to ABS on or off, traction control and stability management off. Automatic gears.

Basic method. Hold RT (assuming Xbox controller here) or rubber-band it. Get up some speed, doesn’t matter all that much how fast but hit 100 give or take 20/30. Then play with the steering and handbrake when you get up that speed, turn and hit A more or less at the same time, when the skid starts let go of A and see what happens when you then fiddle a bit with the steering.

From there just monitor what you do that gets bigger skids and then try to direct them using the steering (and the other buttons do stuff too).

Good luck.
