Weather and environmental changes in FH4's shared world Seasons

This is dissapointing. But they have some months of development before it arrives in October. Maybe they will bring the function to switch it, in a day-one patch. I hope it for them. Otherwise i could imagine a [Mod Edit - Abbreviated profanity, profanity and profanity that is disguised but still alludes to the words are not permitted - D] here.

I’ve seen footage of the game involving a bit of rain, but with snow taking place in winter and Spring… well, a bit of rain, what are you expecting? Are you expecting decent amount of rain as per usual?

Also what are your thoughts on storms? Forza is yet to have any thunderstorms, specifically lighting and heavy rain. It’s something that you’d think by now would be in Forza, but doesn’t seem to yet be. Would definitely be something ideal for forzatographers.

Cool, I like it.

Right now, my diplomatic solution would be to also allow players the freedom to choose the season during single player free roam, at the very least.

Me too. Honestly, my only concern about the dynamic season system is that each season last a bit too long. IMO, It would be better to have seasons change every 3 days. Sure, it may give us less chance to try out exclusive season events but it could give us more chance to drive in which season we want in the open world.

I usually play offline and just go crazy with my customized events in my favourite cars. I’m happy enough that you can set seasons in your Blueprint events. That’s all I want to know and have. Just give dynamic seasons lesser period of time and I’m 100% cool with it!

I hear what you’re saying. When they announced the feature I was wondering how frequently it would change. Given day/night cycles are often 10-30 minutes long I figured this could take a few days to cycle seasons as well.

Not sure a week really concerns me, but it might be longer than I expected.

I think it’s a bad idea to work weekly , what if I want to drift or race in the dry ? But it’s snow for a week rain for a week

It does seem silly to force us into the seasons. Maybe with their 72 people servers they could have different servers currently in different seasons, and one could join what they wanted. That might end up with some in very low demand though, and I’m sure they want their art to be seen as much as possible. Well, not as much as if they had just added more diversity to a larger map, but y’know.

I hate this feature! Don’t force me to drive in snow when i don’t want to. Blizzard Mountain was a nice expansion, but i played it very rarely.

Better solution were to get that Season thingie on a extra server where you can join if you want.

The rain effects in photo mode have been somewhat disappointing in both Horizon and Motorsport.

Horizon 2, the rain was static graphics, so applying motion blur to rain looked really wonky.

Motorsport 6 and 7 and Horizon 3 used little tiny balls of water, which looked great in motion, but when you applied a motion blur or took a still photo, they pretty much disappear entirely.

Motorsport 6 and 7 also have some pretty awful tile effects happening on the water droplets on the surface of the car. Really stands out when everything else in the picture looks so realistic.

All Forza games with water have also had really bad looking water splashes. Horizon 3 probably had the best, but they were still pretty weak. Tire smoke also hasn’t improved much from FM4 or 5 onwards.

I’d love to take some epic shots in a roaring thunderstorm or downpour, but Forza has given me very few chances to get decent pictures in the rain.

I don’t mean for this post to sound negative. Forza’s graphics are amazing and the realism they’ve been able to achieve with 60 fps and 4K is incredible. But it is a downer when the photos are so close to real life and then you get a glimpse of some water in the picture and the illusion is utterly broken.

Why a season lasts not a day? Would it be to frequently? 7 days are really to long. But nevermind that. The easiest way would be to add an option to switch seasons in the settings in offline-mode.

Lasting a day would be insanely frequent. Some seasons wouldn’t even rain or snow when you’re playing then. Plus it changing all the time like that would be odd for events and career.

Ok so I saw the trailer at E3 and I saw the part where a rally car was wading through the muck so I was wondering is it going to be as deep as the snow in fh3 BM?

The Fiesta RX got about as covered in mud as you’d expect for rally and rallycross events taking place during the rain, whether real and virtual. Which means getting really dirty, really fast, so it’s great.

And remember (see the videos) ā€œWinterā€ this week won’t be the same ā€œWinterā€ the next time it arrives, there are variables, including different events, goals, etc., each time the season rotates.

You like your Summer cabin by the lake? How about getting a Winter cabin higher up in the mountains?

There will also be different Barn Finds in the seasons. As was pointed out in one interview, Winter and a frozen lake may bring a Barn Find on an island which is inaccessible when the lake is all water.

I am a person who likes realism in games. So, all of you complaining about seasons lasting too long seems silly to me. I love it when a game forces a rule on everyone equally, the seasons change in real life, and you have to wait for them to leave. That will happen in the game as well, at an accelerated pace. Sure, it’s a game and your’e supposed to have fun, but maybe with this, you can find a way to have fun within the set boundaries that are given. Find a way to drift in the snow, use the ice to your advantage. And the whole thing about not being able to get to certain areas based on what time it is seems amazing. I love exclusivity in games. Nothing cool should be easily accessible. You should have to get it based on your patience, or skill, or quick-thinking. Something that is awesome should not be easy to get, it should provide a challenge, and not everyone should be able to beat that challenge. That is what gives something value. Value is given to something when it is desired, but limited in supply. I like my things in games to have real value, something not everyone has. This has the chance to do that.

I have to disagree. As you said, it’s a game, and then it should be a game and not providing ā€œfakeā€ realism. I pay for a game which is being advertised with seasons so i should be able to chose the seson i want and not being forced to wait. For me personaly it would be very annoying, i can’t play every week, so i will miss some season and events which is kinda frustrating.

I feel like the best solution would be to have general free roam lobbies and hoppers following the weekly season cycle, but allow private lobbies to choose the season. For those who organize events with specific themes, being able to choose the season in a private session would be very valuable.

I hope that players will be allowed to change season in single player mode. Forcing people to drive for whole week on snow, or even 3 weeks without snow when they want to have some winter fun is such a terrible decision… I enjoyed billzard mountain so much just because I could switch that whenever I want. Also winter season might be real pain when you like to drive supercars…

The weekly phase of seasons is great news for me. In a game with so much choice it will actually be refreshing to have this decision taken out of my hands. Horizon gives so much diversity of cars and event types that allowing me to choose what season I want would actually be too much for me.

Also this will ensure that all seasons get a fairly equal play time. I am so glad that this dilemma will not be something to worry about and that I won’t have to constantly wait while loading the different seasons. If you consider the load times between expansions then consider doing this every time you want to change season. That would get frustrating very quickly!
