Very impressed by weather and lighting in this game

Just had a race at Laguna Seca that started with overcast and suitably drab lighting. As the clouds dispersed the beautiful sunshine came through and the whole mood of the race changed. This is just a simple example but the game does a great job of making each race feel distinct with the ever changing weather and lighting. At launch it was marred with this horrible strobing-bug that really put a damper on my excitement for this system, but now after update 3.0 it feels perfect!

… Looking forward to the game being discounted by 50% and then perhaps I’ll re-purchase it and experience its’ impressive weather and lighting, but only if my custom controller layout doesn’t need resaving each time the game starts as that made me feel very stormy indeed …

Finished my popcorn, back to AMS2 and BeamNG.

I have three kids. I understand how friction works.

Go ahead and make your own game or play another game. You invading every thread with negative comments is tiresome.

Nah, I think I’ll stay right here. After all, someone needs to be here to explain to new players that most sanctioned racing series kind of frown upon competing in monsoons.

Then all I will say is that I feel sorry for you. You must have a very small life when you actually have to chase down every positive thread in this forum and spam your negative thoughts. I wish you a merry Christmas and hope you find something more enjoyable to play.

Yep.

One thing I’ve really come to appreciate about other racing games is how much of a problem racing in the wet on the wrong tires really is. The feeling of grip gradually slipping away from you as the track gets more and more saturated is a fun little wrinkle to deal with.

Let the guy enjoy his views in forza :joy:

I really wish I could disable all this foul weather stuff. I don’t like it. Most real races would never be run in these conditions.

FYI, there are a number of posters I’ve put on “Ignore” because while FM and T10 deserves to be criticized for the subpar product they released… There comes a point where it’s just tiresome and negativity for negativity’s sake.

I’ve criticized FM heavily myself, but I also try and offer long-term solutions (that will never be implemented by T10, but, hey. It makes me feel better!) as well as more immediate help for players dealing with things like controller understeer, bad performance on PC, etc.

There needs to be a healthy balance, but some posters like to wallow in the negativity because it’s more fun than the game. C’est La Vie.

They would not, but this is a video game and not real life.

Meaning, if we’re going to have these kinds of conditions in the game, then T10 should let us earn double XP for driving in them… Just like previous Motorsport games did, and how Horizon embraces the change of seasons and different climates by rewarding you increased XP and other accolades for racing in such conditions.

There was one race that I ran at Silverstone - it took place at night, and the game decided that what was needed was a thick layer of fog to go along with it, particularly in the really dark spots. I can’t say how accurate the depiction of Silverstone at night really is because I’ve never been there, but I’m 95% sure any series running there would have immediately called a halt the moment the fog settled in.

Then there are the races (yes, multiple) at tracks like Homestead and Catalunya where the bad weather and rudimentary day/night cycle combine to produce painfully blinding imagery, which is always fun at 170 mph. One race looked like a nuke had gone off outside the track.

You must have very small experience when it comes to video games. Otherwise you wouldn’t get that excited about stuttery and glitchy 2005 graphics.

It’s just a matter of personal preference…maybe he like what he sees. Who am I to judge. I personally thing that car detail is poor, interiors look bad/decent depending on a car and the ovr graphic design is bland and uninteresting. Esp. cloudy enviroments.

To me ovr graphic design was better in FM7. if they expanded with that stylistical choice would be much better. Ovr if you compare FM8 to FM7 it’s bad. I fired up FM8 to compare few tracks and ovr image qulity…interesting to say the least.

I have played video games since at least 1982. I have owned NES, SNES, , 360, Wii, Wii U, DS, 3ds, Gameboy, several Game & Watch and other lcd games, PS4, Series S and now Series X. Oh I have also played games on Mac and PC and a ton of arcade games. Yeah…I know nothing about games.

Edit: found the mute button and will be using it on a couple of people in here. I didn’t come to this forum to wallow in their misery.

Agreed. I can go on and gush about the weather and lighting. I have eyes so I see that the skybox isn’t as pretty as some other games, but what we get here is a skybox that always changes and that’s a lot more exciting to me. Yea there are times when the light comes out between dark skies and the effect is blinding. This feels realistic to me and I like it. These comments about dark tracks with fog are valid and off course most races would be stopped during a thunderstorm, but it’s very exciting in a video game. It’s funny when some people who have hammered down their opinion of Forza being a simcade game getting upset about the unrealistic race conditions.

Do you not find that in FM? I think it’s fairly rudimentary but if you are on slicks as opposed to wets you will be losing colossal amounts of time if the weather is poor.

I love the weather in this game. Seeing it shift from one type to another feels great. I’m lucky that I can run this with RT on full and the game looks a treat.

Rain at night is so much fun.

I really appreciate the fact that for the first time in the series, we have actual dynamic weather and not just presets for Free Play, where the bulk of my time has been set.

In fact, Free Play has the most amount of customization any Forza game has had in the entire series.

I can give credit where credit is due. It’s just that everything else surrounding small improvements like this hold the entire game back, unfortunately.

There is a way to boost the Skybox to 4K (and above) resolution on PC, but performance takes a heavy hit because of it. In fact, there are ways to edit files to make the game use 4K textures for everything, but you’re going to need a top of the line rig to get acceptable (60fps+) performance.
