Ultimate Edition or separate DLC?

Hi, I’m looking at the different pre-order digital sets and am tempted by the ultimate edition. Just wanted to know the approximate value of buying the content separately after release and if it’s likely that I would want all the included content? I know with most other games, half the DLC is take it or leave it and if I’m right, FH3 ultimate isn’t a season pass that includes all future content e.g. major expansions.

Any thoughts welcome

I’m tempted to say separate DLC. But from what I’ve seen it seems that every Forza DLC pack has at least one car that I really want, so I’ll probably end up getting all of them. May as well save some money and buy the Season… erm, Ultimate Edition.

Agreed 100% with you , i was looking for buying car pass only beside the game , but i asked myself what about the vip and the 2x credit and lvl ?

so i decided to pre-order the Ultimate edition to get out of this confusing

Having VIP from the day you start playing is gold. You’ll earn special rewards, your level will fly away a lot quicker and much more. The thing is though, if you get VIP when you’re at level 100 for instance you’ll not get the most out of your VIP pass since it’s a lot harder to level up at higher levels.

Thanks for the comments. Looking at FH2 again, the car pass is £20 and that only seems to include half the packs released. You can also buy single cars and single car packs so I’m still on the fence as to the value of the ultimate edition or just using the extra money to buy the additional content I specifically want. Will look further in to the VIP pass.

agree about getting everything, you will save money and if your interested in the car packs it will be worth it. VIP seems like a great fit for this game considering you will probably spend a bunch in store front, auction house. Won’t be hard to level up in horizon though, I got 170+ in 2 without VIP, oddly the only game i played in forza that I don’t have it. I have hope credits will be used more here anyway.

The car pass won’t include everything, never does. I think H2 had 8 extra and the expansion that wasn’t included. Just assume this game will apply

You’ll save money, that much is certain, but you’ll be spending a lot of money on the game. Really the Ultimate Edition is best for if you planned on buying all this stuff already, since if you do you get the early access as a bonus.

I don’t plan on getting all the DLC but recently I’ve been buying less games and spending more on them by getting the top editions e.g. Fifa and Fallout. Most of my spare gaming cash has been put into Lego Dimensions lately and loads of additional content has been announced for that! Thinking that if I get the ultimate edition I’ll at least have some funds allocated to FH3!

What’s the value/benefit of the VIP pass?

“Exclusive cars, new events, and more await with Forza Horizon 3 VIP membership! Forza Horizon 3 VIP members receive five exclusive VIP cars, including the 2016 Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 SV, the 2-016 Koenigsegg Regera, the 2015 Ultima Evolution Coupe 1020, the 2015 Ferrari F12tdf, and the 2015 Ford Falcon GT F 351. VIPs will receive additional benefits such as VIP wheel spins with extra rewards each time you level up, access to exclusive online events, community gifts, and more. Get your VIP membership today, only through the Deluxe or Ultimate Editions of Forza Horizon 3.”

The exclusive cars, most notably. Also getting double credits on rewards is super valuable for racking up cash.

If the VIP cars don’t interest you though you’ll probably get away with skipping it.

Well, as far as physical prices go…I’ll be using FM6s values to determine my information.

NOTE: This is assuming ALL PRICES are the same.

Buying Ultimate Edition: $100

Buying everything separately: $115

  • Base game: $60
  • Car Pass: $30
  • VIP: $15
  • Bonus Car Pack: $10

So the Ultimate Edition would immediately save you $15. Not to mention the Ultimate Edition includes other goodies: an FM6 and FH2 car pack* and early access.
*Digital only

With this, if you plan on getting quite a bit of DLC for this game, the Ultimate Edition would save you money. You can’t buy everything separately and still come out on top, unless you get something at a discounted rate if not free.

I notice you used Euros earlier, and I know the prices aren’t simply a matter of conversion between the US Dollar and Euro. Nonetheless, you should still find yourself at a discount buying the Ultimate Edition.

As far as personal value goes, that would differ between players. Some car packs might be hit or miss for you. You might find all six of them included with the car pass to be to your delight, others, your disappointment. I can’t say that I’ve liked every car pack in recent Forza history, but I also can’t say I haven’t used the cars in them. Same goes with VIP. It’s benefits may be to your advantage or rendered useless depending on how you personally view it.

If you are interested in individual cars or car packs, if you only buy a few, then the base game and that DLC of choice would be better. If you find yourself wanting more cars than not in a pack, then the pack overall is a better value. Likewise, wanting more packs than not, the car pass is an overall better value.

I hope this helps guide your decision.

Thanks for clarifying this. I too am not sure which one to buy. At first I thought the Meguiar’s and Rockstar pack were Forza Horizon 3 packs as well. They’re of no use to me since I don’t own these games.
VIP sounds promising and as mentioned earlier, most of the time there’s at least one car in every car pack you’d like to have. I think I’ll just go with the Ultimate to get the benefits of the VIP membership and car pass.

Oh and about the conversion rates: I’m from Europe too, and we’re like MS’s puppets. When it comes to these conversion, they just remove the $ and put an € in front of it.
I haven’t seen any prices for the ultimate edition yet, but I bet it will cost €99, as it costs $99 (while it should be around €87 currently).
It happens with every game, console, you name it. It’s sad really …

Personally, I’m just going to buy the Deluxe Edition strictly for VIP access, as I don’t have FM6, FH2, or an XBONE unfortunately. #PCMASTERRACE jk, sorta  I’m a bit picky about the car’s I use, so I will just pick and choose from the individually released car packs. Also, seeing that there isn’t an expansion DLC included in the Ultimate Edition, for me it’s just rather pointless.

You’ll more than likely save money if you went for the Ultimate Edition in the long run. I always end up buying the car pass anyway and that usually costs over £20 on top of the price of the game so the price they’re asking for the Ultimate seems fair when you take into account VIP and early access is included too.

Would hate to know how much money I’ve spent on Forza over the years with all the DLC and expansion packs…

This theme will continue with FH3 for me as the base game looks incredible so any future expansion packs can only be amazing and will be purchased too haha!

Roll on the end of Sept cannot wait to get into this beast of a game!

That depends on the amount of cars per month of DLC that the 29.99 car pass buys you. Considering that each car pack is around 6.99, there is some savings to be had with the car pass as part of the ultimate bundle or by itself.

Each car pack is 7 cars for a total of 42 extra cars. at 6.99 or 7.99 a pack you’ll save a little but it’s only worth it if you’ll love all the packs/cars. It’s always a gamble with season packs. It’s why i only buy them after the fact and on sale or if they come in a bundle with other stuff.

I got the basic version of Forza 6 and only got the car pass on sale. Horizon 3 is ultimate edition pre-order for me, and i’ll tell you why. Turn 10 seem to have lost their way completely with this franchise and playground have been rectifying their mistakes and truly innovating in the series. So currently Playground get my unwavering financial support and Turn 10 get basic financial support. I’m hoping Turn 10 get the message and buck up their ideas and make Motorsport truly great again. Ig they don’t I won’t blow cash on half a game. That’ll be their choice and subsequently mine. Same if Playground drop the ball, although so far they’ve been making all the right moves. I’m hoping Turn 10 have seen this trend themselves and start with Forza 7 including the things Horizon 3 will be and the last few games should have.

Pre-ordered the digital standard edition. Will get DLC as and when it interests me. Thanks for the comments.

After Forza 6 Ultimate I will skip the Horizon 3 Ultimate because: Only four days early access. VIP pass doesn’t mean cheaper DLC anymore. VIP basically only offers a free livery every month and double level up reward spins. I never use all the car pass cars anyway. I just put them in the garage and that’s it. No, I will gladly save the $40 for the Ultimate version and invest them in one of the inevitable real addons the game will receive.

Also: Car pass for Forza 6 has been 35 % off four months after release (with barely half the DLC packs released) and again last week for 50 % off.

I forgot about that. Seems I’ll be getting the Deluxe just for the VIP membership. I’ll get the car pass when it’s X% off.
