It’s quite apparent the difference between Turn 10 and Codemasters when it comes to creating single player content.
I’ve been playing F1 2023 (it’s free to play this weekend) and the amount of single player content is insane when compared to Forza Motorsport. At first, it feels overwhelming checking out all the things the game has to offer. This coming from a developer who has a yearly cycle with the F1 games.
The new WRC game is also quite good with the single player content and they keep adding new challenges regularly.
So, it’s possible to create great games even when the development time is short. I mean, even Dirt Rally 2.0, from 2019, still has daily/weekly/monthly challenges. Talk about player engagement…
Why can’t we have something like this in Forza?
At the end of the day, it all comes down to the creativity of the devs. Hope this changes soon, but not holding my breath.
Codemasters has stumbled a lot, recycled a lot, & been very slow to innovate over the years - so much so that they’ve earned many colorful nicknames that play on the wording of the company title.
The F1 series has annual releases & consequently doesn’t often change much more than the sport’s official driver roster, track list, 10 car models, & sponsor branding.
I have F1 2022 and there’s a lot of new content in this year’s version. I’m just saying the way they handle fresh content is miles ahead of Turn 10. And it’s not like Forza games don’t recycle assets…
I know you’re talking content but considering the myriad of technical issues WRC had at launch (and maybe still has), asking Turn 10 to follow Codemasters’ footsteps in general feels odd. Forza Motorsport has been running without any stuttering since Early Access for me, WRC… not so much. Also, F1 2023 has been out for a while, Forza Motorsport is fairly new still, so I’d expect them to add more content - although I will admit that I’d like to see more single player content as well in general, I guess I just don’t find the comparison to other games / developers helpful.
Its not about the latest titles alone, its about the whole evolution both did.
Codemasters F1 started 2009 and FM 2005.
If you compare F1 2009 with F1 2023 you see very big steps forward that game did.
FM steps forward stopped more or less in 2011 with FM4, like most people say 4 was the best FM while the best F1 game is 2023 and its full packed with single player content since release.
Its not about bugs and tracks, we know the most bugs will be fixed and many tracks will come.
But there is no evolution. No racetypes like Dirt, Rally, Snow, Drift, Drag, Hillclimb etc. just like nothing new. Even compared with FM7 we only see FM8 has less functionality.
The liveryeditor is the same since a decade.
You can’t even rotate your car in the tuning menu.
The UI in FM is just a nogo when it comes to choose a rim for your car.
The mouse is very clunky in the UI.
etc.etc.
And there is no info from the devs that the ui will be improved.
It will take years to update FM to a modern state with content and QoL
because its NOT the “most technologically advanced racing game ever made” and its NOT “from ground up”
FM has maybe the best physics and many cars but the game around this is barly more like a Nascar title from the last millennium.
just an example:
Nascar1998 had 24 cars on the track and Nascar 2003 had 40 cars on track to race against.
Why FM has only 24 cars on track in 2023 like a racing game from last millenium? It should be 80, at least 40.
etc etc etc etc etc etc
YES Turn 10 Should Take a Page from Codemasters’ Book…
Couldn’t have said it better. Glad someone else shares the same opinion. This, from someone who loves Forza games and just wants this game to improve. Here’s hoping the devs are listening to feedback, good and bad.
True. I’ve had a bumpy ride with Codemasters games over the years, but there’s no arguing that at least their F1 titles aren’t going backwards like FM has.
Until you can continue to change the year on the box and recycle the same stuff, is easy to have time for other things.
Also in the early days Forza was providning a lot of things to do, so much that they had to split the game in two, Horizon and Motorsport.
But everyone is free to complain while blind.
The f1 games are okay but i hate all the talk in them and thats what keept me from playing them again. But Turn 10 and Microsoft game studio totally don’t care what we tell them. They think, just like with Windows, that WE have to solve the problems for them when WE have paid for a completely and utterly unsuccessful game with such a bad game engine that the most powerful PCs have to throttle down to play and in the year 2023 that’s probably it worst game to date
Disagree… the new WRC game is a stuttery broken mess both on PC and console. Both developers have either lost talent since their heyday or no longer care like they used to.
