Turn 10 said no more unicorns

Yellow = yep.

And the other irritant that the Ultimate Edition, hasn’t really been so… ultimate.

Completely agree. So many people on here trying to skirt the issue.

I wouldn’t say the no child left behind generation. I’d say the civil rights generation.

Let’s say there is a public basketball court in your town and the town provided the balls. Your taxes are going to maintain it. You like playing basketball but you’re only a so-so player but you and friends have a good time when you play. What would happen if the city passed an ordinance saying only good basketball players would get to play with the new basketballs and everyone else got the old ones? Why should you not be able to play with the new basketballs? You are paying for them. I admit it isn’t the end of the world but is it fair?

If you want a more extreme example. Say the city passed an ordinance that good basketball players had priority to the seats in the front of the bus and everyone else, including you, had to sit at the back of the bus. It isn’t the end of the world. You would still get to your destination.

Clearly, the second example would never be tolerated but why should the first? There is a difference in magnitude but where do you draw the line?

Its more like they had they had a tournament at your city basketball court. Everybody can enter and uses all the equipment that YOUR TAXS paid for. NIKE decides to donate some free stuff winning various events in the tournament. Some of it will be skilled based, some will be participation, some might just be luck. NIKE has the tournament with prizes to get people excited about basketball.

AKRA1X,

Nice reply. I don’t see good arguments like this very often in the posts.

You make a good point but I think something is missing. Nike would probably pay the city for the use of the court. This would probably end up being some donation to the city such as new uniforms for the high school teams. I admit Nike would be using resources that my taxes helped pay for but this would be offset by my taxes not being used to buy the high school uniforms. City officials would also argue that the city would collect more taxes by having people come to the town, selling concessions, etc. I’m getting a little off track here but the city would get additional revenue that would offset what I paid in taxes.

I do admit my argument was a little simplified but it is based on a true story. The town I grew up in had a gymnasium. It gave kids a place to go in the after school. In the evening it was mostly used by young adults. The city provided the basketballs. One day a kid had a basketball that wouldn’t hold air for more than 5 minutes. The parent tried to get the ball exchanged for a better one. The guy at the checkout counter told him there weren’t any other balls. However, there were new balls visible on the rack behind him. The parent was told those were only for league players. However, the balls were stamped property of “the city”. The guy talked to the person who ran the gymnasium but got the same answer. He then showed up at a city council meeting asking about it. The city council said they were unaware of this. The council said their intent in buying the basketballs was to give less fortunate kids access to the game. It turned out the person in charge of the gymnasium was a friend of one of the league team’s coach and he wasn’t suppose to be reserving the balls for the league teams.

The story ended up having a happy ending. A sporting goods store was a sponsor of one of the league teams. When the owner found out about this he offered to donate the balls. The league got sole use of these balls for the season and then the balls were given to the gym. The owner donated nice basketballs unlike the cheap ones the city bought. After the season they were still in good shape. I think the league had two seasons a year, so the balls were replaced more quickly too. Everyone seemed happy with the arrangement.

I just hope we, Turn 10 and its customers, can come up with a solution everyone can be reasonably happy with.

This comparison is just ridiculous and completely irrational. This has absolutely nothing to do with civil rights. It’s a digital car in a video game, end of story. Your life will go on just fine if you don’t get the car.

I currently have a faster time than Triton, but I’m sure he’ll improve upon his time before the end of the month, and I’ll have to run some more laps to try and beat it again. If I don’t, oh well, I had fun trying. And when the next event comes up, I’ll try for that one too.

I don’t think I can do this, but I’m definitely going to try.

Huh why what happened! Where must I go to achieve a unicorn car?!..

Have I said I don’t like unicorns? (Sarcasm) I’m going to change that slightly. I think unicorns can have a place in the game. I don’t think they should be based on a competition. I don’t see how I could ever get the current unicorn car other than the lottery or guessing the lap time.

I would like to see unicorns be awarded for doing something anyone should be able to do in the game. We shouldn’t be told what we need to do to get them. The car shouldn’t be awarded instantly when the driver completes the requirement. Turn 10 should just give them out on a particular day like Monday. The person would be left to wonder what they did in the last week to get the car. I can imagine some interesting threads trying to guess what is needed to get the car.

Turn 10 could give hints like they do with the DLCs. The clues could be spread out over several months. For instance, for the current car there could be a set of clues like

Month 1. One day before I turn 77, I should go out for a drive around the track.

Month 3. It was a lovely drive across the English country side to the track. I remember passing seven oaks as I neared the track.

Month 6. I met up with some friends. We all had a good time.

Month 12. I loved the roar of the V8 and the roar of the crowd every time I passed the finish line.

The first clue tells me the car needed is the Aston Martin One-77. The second clue says the course is Brands Hatch. The third clue says I have to do something online. The last clue says I have to complete 8 events. So, to get the Unicorn I have to complete 8 online races at Brands Hatch in an Aston Martin One-77.

I admit this wasn’t a great example but you get the idea. Anyone can get the car. You just have to figure out how. I’d give some reward to the first 1000 people who get the car. This could be a special paint job so they can have bragging right or it could be a special badge.

I can see how the unicorn concept appeals to casual players and hot lappers, but that’s only a portion of the customer base. Myself and others I race with more or less prefer actual organized racing events and championships. I’m personally participating in 3-5 series race every week, in addition to active development of several additional series, managing a website, and working a full time job. That doesn’t leave a lot of time for grinding for cars.

And to get the thread back to the topic of the thread, Turn 10 stated before FM5 that unicorns were a thing of the past. The distribution in previous Forzas was typically only among players that managed to get chummy with T10 staff, leaving others without.

What most players want is to be able to play the game as they want. What Turn 10 has decided to do the past couple of months is to attempt to force players to use features they are not interested in. This lead to a serious degradation in the quality of the racing in leagues by encouraging the bashers to come in and wreck more serious players for the sake of a car that was available to all in previous iterations of the game. At least this month they had the good sense to utilize the Rivals feature, but using a car that, for all intents and purposes has no place being in a ‘Motorsport’ game is more than a little ridiculous. What’s next, limos at Long Beach? Maybe Gurkas on Prague?

Wouldn’t it be much more direct to just tell people the criteria involved in getting a car? It’s not like the process wouldn’t be explained in full detail in a forum post after a short amount of time anyway. It would be nice if it were a set task to do, perhaps taking time to complete but not necessarily hinging on getting a top 10% time? Complete “X” endurance race and you will be awarded with this car. It may take 3 hours of effort but could be worth it… Just a thought.

I see what you’re saying. It is just my opinion unicorns should be hidden. It’s the hunt that is exciting. I know the criteria would eventually show up in the forums. That is fine. As I mentioned earlier, give the first X people some reward. I like the idea of a badge. Call it the unicorn hunter. The level would depend on how many times were in the first X to find a unicorn.

But you got everything that was advertised as being in the ultimate edition…it stated exactly what it contained before you bought it
Ultimate doesnt mean containing everything that is going to be available…means the best. .which it was the best edition available
The price between the basic edition and the ultimate was just the price of the carpass and vip…actually was a bit less
I would be happy for extras to be thrown in for nothing but i got what was advertised…nothing less
Anything extra is a bonus☺

If you would read the thread title (and the highlighted portions of the 2 posts directly above yours) you would see that Turn 10 made a statement indicating there would no longer be unicorn cars. Ergo, by purchasing the Ultimate Edition, the consumer is therefor entitled to all content described therein. As the content of the car packs are unknown, yet the car pass was included in the purchase price, AND the consumer was previously informed there would be no unicorn cars, the consumer is thereby entitled to any content presented until the conclusion of the car pass (expansion packs excluded).

where did they say that there will not be any more unicorn cars?

I know they said that they would not prioritize it anymore.(sounds like a difference between prioritize and would no longer be) but that doesn’t mean that they are forced to never bring it back if many people have asked for it! it’s not like it was a statement before the release of FM6 like this: if you buy the ultimate pack you will get all the DLC for free and there will not be any unicorns..
I hope you understand how silly this is.. and how immature you guys sound like…
next time: don’t buy the ultimate edition.

That is certainly an option. As is instead spending my money on a game that actually focuses on motorsports instead of grinding for hours on end to hit a moving target.

I dont know how you think that because you bought the ultimate edition ENTITLES you to all content possible
It states what you get with it..it is the car pass which clearly states 6 packs of 7 cars which you do get …thats what you are ENTITLED to..as well as VIP
It doesnt say anything about any other cars made available during that time
Again ULTIMATE doesnt mean ALL available
There’s no ERGO about it..as you do get all content stated in the description of the car pass
It does not say anywhere ( or even alludes to ) that the ulimate edition ENTITLES you to any other content that appears during the running of the carpass
But to receive it for free would be nice though and would be a nice gesture from turn 10 to do so
As i also purchased the ultimate edition i would like it to be free for us but i dont expect it

Again, you missed the point. They said NO MORE UNICORNS.

From an interview with Eurogamer.net Granted, it was in regards to FM5, but it was an indication that they recognized the issues existence of unicorns caused and were addressing said issues.

This x1000%. The owners of the Ultimate Edition got everything that was in the game description. Nowhere in there does it say that the Ultimate Edition would contain possible unicorn cars (they are a bonus now), the Porsche pack (announced later and will be a substantial addition over any other car pack), or any other content not advertised within the Ultimate Edition summary. I didn’t go for the Ultimate as I’m not a huge DLC person, especially sight unseen, which is pretty much what you buy when you choose a deluxe edition like this. I know some are disappointed with the car choices in the DLC but it does not entitle anyone to anything above and beyond. Try for the car, see if you can make the time, but if you can’t, it’s not the end of the world.
