I, an Ultimate Edition owner, whole-heartedly agree with this statement. While I may not like the Car Pass content that has come down, I have received exactly what was advertised as being in the Ultimate package. I gave up being b***-hurt by anything Turn10 does with Premium content after the made the Forza3 VIP cars available 6 months after release.
I thought T10 said they would be available by other means later? If they come out as the final DLC pack, The Unicorn Pack, will you all stop complaining?
If you want the prize, you gotta play the game. I probably won’t go in for the Aston, but I’ll be happy for the people who put the effort in and win it.
First of all, everyone who keeps calling people who don’t like Unicorns entitled needs to stop being an elitist jerk.
Just because someone has a different opinion than you doesn’t mean they are “entitled children who want everything handed to them.” If anyone needs to grow up it you guys who think you’re so mature. Now that that’s out of the way.
Here’s why I don’t like Unicorns. I like a complete game, with all the content. Unicorns fly in the face of that because you aren’t guaranteed to get everything. Now its true that with some practice you and some sweat you can get it, but some people still won’t.
As someone said above, if you buy Forza 6 well after its lifespan and Unicorns are no longer being handed out, you can no longer get those cars, and I don’t really think that’s fair to those people. What if its a car that they really love but are doomed never to drive now because then didn’t own the game in February?
I hate unicorns, and not having them irritates me, so I’m doing these events just like everyone else. I picked up the Silvia when I heard about it. When the Ferrari was announced I was incredibly mad, but I still got on a raced almost every day. It wasn’t fun, I got wrecked out in the first corner almost every time and I’m not very fast so I’d end up in last place and never pass anyone. I still finished in the top 15% because I wanted to make sure I got the car. I even bought Furious 7 just so I could get Dom’s stupid Charger.
Now with this Community Bounty I’m a little concerned, because I’m not fast. I’m like 3 seconds off the target time and I haven’t been able to improve in the last day. I might make up some time but so will Triton. So even though I might play Forza every day until the end of the event I might not get it, and that sucks. If I didn’t bother or only set one time fine, I didn’t work for it, I don’t deserve it. But if I worked so hard to get it and I don’t? That sucks, I’m going to be super bummed. The Silvia and the Ferrari I don’t even like that much, but I love this Aston.
Also saying that 100 other people will get it is not a justification. There are some 13,000 players entered in the rivals event, what are my chance of getting the car randomly?
I don’t like Unicorn cars because it makes it difficult to have everything. And some people will miss out and I know what the feels like and it stinks. I’m gonna do everything I can to get this car, doesn’t mean I have to like it.
Now I have a proposal, don’t shoot it down right away this is just what I think.
At the END of the game’s life span, after all DLC is out, they can release an extra DLC pack that adds the Unicorn cars to the Dealership. Now I know what you’re thinking, if its DLC that doesn’t make them special. Yeah, that’s true. But if you wait until the end of the game’s lifespan how important are they gonna be then? Forza 7 will come out shortly thereafter and most will never play Forza 6 again, so will it really matter if your special cars aren’t special at that point? If you already got the unicorns that’s great, you don’t have to buy the pack.
They did this with the Pre-order retailer cars in Forza Horizon 2, and I thought that was a smart move. I really don’t think there’s a better way. You either have them or you don’t, any attempt to compromise will devalue the car and irritate those in favor of Unicorns.
[/rant]
I’ll agree to disagree. And I’m not an “elitist jerk” as you called me.
I honestly don’t see how it’s going to hurt you if you don’t get this car. There are plenty of other cars to collect and drive in this game. It’s nothing more than a digital trophy for players that can achieve the time. I really don’t see anything wrong that, and it’s just a little friendly competition in the game. Just like any other competitive event people enter, if they don’t win, they don’t get a prize. It’s no different.
That, and as everyone keeps mentioning (including Triton), there will still be other ways of attaining the car. So instead of crying like a child and throwing a fit, be patient and see what the other opportunities will be.
Couldn’t agree more.
I’m 2 seconds off Triton at the mo, can’t see where I’m going to get that from.
If I don’t get the virtual car, so be it. I lost fair & square.
Because ladies & gentlemen in life there are winners & losers. Simple fact of life.
I understand why people hate unicorn cars and why this has generated such a debate but the fact is even if they didn’t do anymore there would still be 2 in the game unless they decide to gift them to everyone.
I understand where some people are coming from with the Ultimate Edition but at the end of the day we all got exactly what we paid for.
Look at it this way. Unicorn cars are meant to be rare. I played forza 3 like it was a full time job and I never got one. Forza 4 I managed a few thanks to the bounty hunter events. If they gave them to everyone who owned the ultimate edition they wouldn’t be rare. That is why this month’s bounty hunter is so challenging. But if you ask me that’s a good thing - online and rivals has been alot more active as has parts of the community and that can only be a good thing.
I do wish you could trade unicorn cars for one’s that you don’t have but I can see why that isn’t an option at present. As others have said there will be other ways to win the car in the future it may just mean you have to put some work in.
I’m sure one of the reasons a lot of Ultimate Edition (UE) owners are upset even though this car was never part of promised content for the UE is the following :
FM6 released with over 450 cars, the UE adds about 50 additional cars on top of that. Do we need those extra 50 cars? Ofcourse not, we can perfectly play wit 450 cars. Chances are big you won’t seriously race with even 100 cars of that through the entire lifespan of Forza. But I believe people who buy the UE are by heart completists, people who feel the urge to have access to every car in the game and be able to own them, paint them and drive them all as they wish. It gives that feeling that you own the entire FM6 package with everything in and around it including all bonus cars and VIP bonuses. I’m an UE owner as well and I very much feel that way. Not at all to feel better than the standard edition dude next to me on the starting grid, but just to be able to have access and own the complete package of all possible cars in the game.
What Unicorn cars generally do is to make UE owners unhappy if they can’t access the extra cars. For me it went like this :
First “unicorn” car is the 1970 Dodge Charger Fast & Furious Edition (AKA Dom’s Charger). It was only available for a limited time via the Xbox video promotion and sadly not in the country I live in. Even today I’m still annoyed that this car is not part of my collection of cars in FM6 even though I have the car in FH2. I hope at some point in the future this car will return in a way it can be obtained.
Second “unicorn” car was the 1966 Nissan Silvia. Very easy to obtain if you follow the forums a bit, but I think a lot of people (including myself) thought it was an error and Turn 10 would fix it at some point and make it available via the normal way. I was lucky enough to wait a few weeks but eventually bought the car, only just before the end of the month and the next CU that closed the opportunity to buy it.
Third “unicorn” car was the Ferrari 312 PB and at first it seemed difficult to get, but 3 weeks in a row a chance to end up in the top 50% was in fact very easy.
And our fourth “unicorn” car is this 1977 Aston Martin Vantage. Unless you are a seriously good hot lapper you can safely say it’s near impossible to get… for now. I do believe there will be ways in the future but we have no info on that either and it’s very annoying.
So here I am, UE and VIP under my belt, doing everything possible I can to get all the extra cars, being very active on the forums too. 2 out of those 4 cars I already got, the other 2 I cannot get via normal ways. I guess for the 1970 Dom’s Charger I should have tried to change my Xbox country settings to the USA or where the promotion was going, but it would be lame needing to do that. Now for the Aston rival event since it’s 100% certain this < 1:40:00 time is impossible for me to beat myself I guess I’ll have to find a good driver, give him my Xbox live account info (with temporary password) and have him do the hotlap for me. Needless to say it’s even lamer. But if you are a completist, a car collector or any type of person that gives high value to keeping your FM6 car collection complete, it’s the only thing to do now.
I personally don’t like Unicorns at all, I hate them. But I find them tolerable if they are rather easily accessible and everyone who wants the car can have it. In the case of the 312 PB at least most of the people who wanted it got it. But in the case of the 1977 Astin I believe less than 10% of the people who want the car will get it.
I’m new to the entire Forza franchise since summer 2015 where FH2 was my first Forza game. I was really impressed with the great game and some extra free give aways like the 2 extra free Porsches. Nothing bad to say about Turn10 / Playground at all. First negative experience for me personally came with FM6 and the lack of support of my TX racing wheel. Second negative experience now is this whole unicorn / hidden / unobtainable car content business. Turn10 can do what they like, there are plenty of other racing games out there. Pros and cons, it’s all put in the balance. Annoy me enough with these unicorns in the future and the cons will start to outweigh the pros and I can walk away to another game. I’ve done the same with GT6 last year where lack of any info about GT7 or another PS4 racing game was really annoying me. But things have become more clear there now as well. I can easily walk away again if the grass is greener on the other side.
These Unicorns aren’t so difficult to get, not even unicorns really, more like a giraffe or a rhino.
The Unicorns in FM2. Now they were tough, it took me months to get that Exige Espionage.
Rambling anecdote over.
Yeh ok they said no unicorns
They obviously changed their minds about them
It still has no relevance to the ultimate edition owners being entitled to them
Even though i would like them im not entitled to them
the only thing someone is entitled to is turn 10 being entitled to change their mind about their game mechanics. Still I think is a poor design decision to cut content to be a reward to a select group of people. I really hope they at least bring these cars as a free DLC at the end of Forza 6 lifespan.
I hate unicorns, exclusivity and any attempts at making some kind of economy in a game that has a tag line “Where dreams are driven”.
Wanna drive that Aston? Hah! KEEP DREAMING. What’s the point of it?
These games allow us to play around with cars that we would never get to touch because they are rare or expensive or aren’t available in your country. So why reinforce this in a game that’s supposed to liberate the cars for people to experience?
Turn 10 has back tracked on a lot of things. Tokens for instance, they said would only return if there was an identified demand for them. I haven’t seen a long running thread where anyone was asking for tokens.
Ahh tokens
= disabled…lol
There were actually some threads asking for them
Really dont know why. .credits are so easy to earn rather than waste real money…people are crazy and / or impatient or just have too much money
I’m hoping that with the return of unicorns also brings along with it monthly updating of rivals events
A lil bit of competition with a reward at the end is nice too
That was Forza Motorsport 4’s tagline.
Why do I want the car? There are several reasons but I have to say the biggest reason is I want to see how it drives. I’ll never drive one in real life. Would I drive it a lot. I’m guessing no. I have my favorite cars and I’d probably stick with them.
How could Turn 10 possibly accommodate me and others that feel like me but also limit access to the car? Make it a rental car that can only drive in free play. I’d be happy with that. That is probably the only place I’d drive it anyway. I wouldn’t be able to use it in career mode, rivals, leagues, or multiplayer. I wouldn’t get credits or XP for driving it. I’d be fine with this. How often do you think people would use the car with these restrictions?
The people that actually won the car would own it and could do whatever they wanted to it. They could race it online to show off that they won it. I don’t really care about that. I just want to see how the car drives.
I know I will see posts saying this is a stupid idea and the only people that should be allowed to drive the car are the ones that won it. However, if someone could test drive the car they may be more motivated to win the car if there was another contest for it.
Well, I don’t believe that anyone at T10 said of this or any other Forza that there would be “no more Unicorns”. There is one line by DG in reply to a question about the FM5 economy that’s being badly paraphrased.
In any event, unlike some previous Unicorns this Aston is there for everyone to win if they can pull a time out of the hat. It’s only a prize for beating a lap time in a motor racing game - seems kinda reasonable to me. It won’t be a LB car, it’s not a car that anyone particularly needs, just a nice little prize for those guys willing to put in the work to win it.
I had a quick few laps in the Rolls and struggled to get into the low 40s. I’ve got a choice, spend a few hours tweaking the tune and run countless laps to try to shave 3 or 4 seconds off the lap or go do something else. I think the goalpost will be beyond me this time around but good luck to everyone having a go. I hope it’s the first of many.
Not paraphrased. Direct quote. Read the referenced article.
They did not say there would be no more unicorns.
Your own post says that Dan said this “…We didn’t want to lock cars, we didn’t want to have unicorns, we wanted it to be based on work that people put in. We’re making changes.”
Most of that is past tense and refers to their decisions for FM5. Remember FM5 had a smaller car list so locking out any cars would have had a bigger impact.
They say they are making changes - that may mean that the future hoops we have to jump through to get the cars may be different like happening to go to the right event in single player career in the right timeframe to find a car that we can buy.
Now please do not misintepret my posts.
- I am not a fan of unicorns.
- I am saying you have misread what Dan said or are putting words into his mouth. And I suspect that is one reason why Turn 10 are reluctant to communicate as much as people want - they are often misquoted.
I agree with what SatNiteEduardo is saying but I will add something.
I feel we were led to believe unicorns weren’t coming back. When FM6 was released they mentioned nothing about unicorns coming back or I don’t remember that. Either they didn’t mention it or I have a bad memory. That is the problem. I betting and hoping for the former and praying it is not the latter.
My only ‘complaint’ is that they seem to have snuck unicorns back in under the radar. Apparently at least one other ‘exclusive’ car was already given out before I even noticed they were doing this again. Even this one in the public announcement just reads like a ‘car giveaway’ like the FM5 bounty hunters, not a unicorn give away.
I do think this will help community involvement and give me a reason to play this game vs. doing something else with my very limited free time.
Come on guys they’re not exactly hard to get if you want them. I work 50+ hours a week, spend 70% of the year out of the country and l’m married with two kids yet I had multiple sets of all the previous unicorns. Most of them took less than a minute to earn.
