Translation is still a topic in 2024

Even in 2024, there is still a problem with translating the challenges. The terms are not always consistent. It’s just happily translated. Apparently there is no quality control. If you want to have a game that is internationally oriented, then you should make the effort and really translate consistently. The naming of PR stunts and street racing or road racing is not at all consistent. So you have to change every time the language settings to see what’s pretended. Or you do a road racing and a street racing to achieve the wanted “daily challenge”. Language and translation matters. It matters more than a developer could imagine. But this is a topic of quality control.

Anyway, I’m afraid translations are beyond control of developers, I’d contact your local Microsoft support with such issues.

Not necessarily, most studios have localisation experts, especially for in-game implementation.

But yes, the Horizon forum is where it should be reported.

I hope it’s the case with T10/PG as well. I stopped playing Forza in Polish for the same reason the OP mentioned :smile: Forza Motorsport has several issues with translation as well.

what language are you using? and where are the inconsistencies i want to take a look.

and also yes, it is disappointing for translations to be so bad you have to complain.

Might be a general problem. I remember at least one week when the English description of something was wrong.

This is the Chinese version of the playlist screen for this week.


For the backstage you can obtain, it says “1X赛道”.
Well, that two Chinese characters “赛道” means “track” in English.
Here is a picture of the “original” English version of the screen.

How in the name of all the holies does the FH5 Chinese localisation group translate “pass” into “track”? Google translate would do FAR FAR FAR better than that.

Never thought about Translation too much. Played in German before, and switched most games to English by now. Not because of translation, but because it just feels better to play in a game in original language it was intended to be played in.

I now think that games shouldn’t bother about it too much, but they need to decide. Either only provide English to free up resources for other things (money, mainly), or do it prober. I would prefer the former, because idc. I dunno how many players we have that don’t speak English and play Forza in their language, though.

You’d be surprised how many ppl play in in a different language.

Though specific things like jokes and stuff will be hard to translate.

Its just as bad in Swedish, we often get the wrong information, and gets asked to do the wrong things, which wont complete the challenges, or lots of useful information, may be left out, like when we had to do the Golf photo challenge, on the Swedish translation, it only said take a picture of a Golf on the golf course location, but it did not say which year it had to be, so i of course used the wrong model year, and it wouldent complete, then looked the challenge up on youtube, and was able to find the correct Golf to complete the challenge. Its so frustrating sometimes.

It is as it is.

As someone that has had to perform language verification according to bothans whose job it was to be native speakers and provide that expertise - and even with back ups in place - we would deploy only to learn that while we may have used the technically correct translation, we were using it incorrectly conversationally. It was right, but wrong at the same time. We’d have to go back and provide more concise context for the words in use. A word that is correct meaning on one page might need an augmented word on another because it’s a different context it’s being used for - same word but with a different umlat, or extra letter some where.

Germanic languages are some of the hardest as they are quite literal in their translations.
And don’t even get me started on languages that use commas in place of decimals points.

All this to say, even with strong protocols for testing and verification in place - it happens.
