Hello there. Apologies if this is in the wrong section, this site is a bit confusing, and I am brand new. However, I’ve been playing Forza 4 for about a week, learning how to drive, design cool cars, etc, but now I am attempting to switch from having the bulk of features assisted to manual. I really don’t know what I’m doing, and when I take my Ferrari 360 around a corner, I drift too hard, turning into a spin out. I can do most things easily in manual, but I’m having serious issues with corners. Any advise? Thanks for your time.
Please clarify. Are you drifting or actually racing? I’m asking because you used the word “drift” in your description. Thanks.
Well, I’m attempting to actually race, but then my car starts drifting out of control. I mean, I’m cool with drifting, I have no clue how it helps or hurts, but when I drift to the point where I slam into a wall and drift sideways, I have issues.
I’m not doing well switching to manual from auto as well even with a new wheel that makes it easier to shift. I’m by no means an expert but I think you’re just taking the corner to fast. Try swapping down a few classes to a much slower car. Also if you have horizon you can take time just driving the map and practicing shifting. I’m not good enough at manual shift to use in competitive racing but it’s good to try on my own.

I was hoping you wouldn’t say that. Too bad. Sadly, I don’t have Horizons, I’ll probably wait for H2 to come out.
Practice, practice, and more practice!! You probably already figured that part out. As you begin removing assists, the tune becomes increasingly more important, as the assists often compensate for shortcomings in the set up. If your not yet adept at tuning, look for some on the SF. There are a lot of good ones out there. Look for one’s that have a good rating, or have been downloaded more than a few times, as they are usually better. Don’t be afraid to try out several. Many have unique driving styles, and while it may be a very good tune, it may not be good for you. Also, go to the leaderboards and watch some replays. Bring up the telemetry and pay attention to the braking, throttle, and shifting, to see how they approach it. Compare that to what your doing.
Above all, don’t get discouraged! Focus on one thing at a time, rather than trying to do it all at once. This game can be as simple or as complex as you want to make it, part of the beauty of it. You say your having trouble cornering in your Ferrari, so start there. Take the car out on a track you like, (I personally like Road Atlanta, good mix of slow and fast corners and straights). First, just focus on getting around the track cleanly. Don’t worry about lap times yet. Start slowly and “feel” the car out. See what it likes and doesn’t like. As you get more comfortable, begin to push the car more. If you get out of sorts, back off and try again. Before you know it you’ll be turning fairly good times. Racing is a combination of techniques and understanding the cars behavior.

You can also search youtube for racing techniques.
A Ferrari isn’t an ideal car to learn how to race in. Pro drivers started out in karts, they didn’t just jump into an F1 car or a LeMans prototype.
Start with a slower car with less HP ( C class, rwd ) with the fewest assists possible and learn car control,( braking, steering, shifting, throttle control )
Get on the leaderbords and follow other driver’s ghosts to learn the racing line on different tracks. Watch replays with the telemetry on to see when they are shifting, braking, turning in, rolling out and accelerating. All control inputs should be smooth, no sudden moves.

A lot of track time available in various different classes and types of cars and sometimes there’s prizes to be had. We have drivers of all levels and we’re all friendly and help each other out with everything.
Bottom line – Watch, learn, practice, practice, practice. When you’re done with that, practice some more
Alrighty. I’m gonna start practicing in a Thunderbird right now, probably stopping progress on my World Cup and online play for the moment. The link you shot me for the videos isn’t showing up, but the Evercool one is, and I’m considering joining. Thanks for the help you two.
I don’t know why the link doesn’t work. The Forza forum is picky sometimes. If you go to http://www.safeisfast.com and click on videos, advanced driving techniques, you’ll find the ones I mentioned.
The Thunderbird might be a bit nasty to start with since it works best as a power car. Honestly, try a DeLorean. It can be pushed fairly hard since it’s not particularly quick, but it has a similar weight bias to most of the higher performance cars in the game.
