Toyota Supra RZ 1998 - inaccurate engine sound (1654763)

I was just reading up on your posts after a bit of a hiatus from the game and forum and must say I admire the work and dedication you’re putting in. Everybody is benefitting because of you and the game is improving!

Hopefully they will rework the modern Ferrari V12s, Lamborghinis, all 911s and McLarens. Those are not impressive as all.

Thank you so much and welcome back. These do take a lot of time to post. We just want to hear the accurate, realistic car sounds in this game.

@JetPartySalad still no complete sound update of this car in Update 7.0 Please add the Audio-Bugs tag in this thread

Comparison with GT7’s Supra sound, from Bone stock to Racing exhaust. Listen to that 2JZ!

But even worse - the car’s model is inaccurate as it’s been reused from the original FM from 2005!

These are great samples but they are also compressed. I’m sure the Supra sounds much better on a surround amp connected to a PS5 and you a really present in the room - but honestly FM’s current sample isn’t bad at all.

It’s definitely not the day one sample as that was rather poor. It sounds fairly good and actually loud and powerful on an amp. Can it improve? Sure, but I like where it’s at right now, fairly close to an actual heavily modified Supra RZ. I drive it fully modded and the sound is great IMO. Dunno about stock. I’ve heard it many times IRL up close and in the distance, mostly modded. Sounds are fairly close trust me.

You already know how critical I am about sound! So this is pretty great at the moment but they really need to start improving the Skylines, Benzes, Porsches, Ferraris, McLarens, etc

Edit: Forgot - the V8s and bimmers, those need love too! And race cars like C9 and gosh the Paganis and wrong sound on the Murceilago and Reventon or the AM Vulcans. Miiiike, where you at?!

Well, I would say it isn’t a bad sample but it is missing the 2JZ-GTE feel. The tone is missing. When in stock, the car does not sound like the real life one and when upgraded, it sounds too much synthesized like FH5. GT7 captured all the sounds, from bone stock to racing accurately. They captured the tone which gives the authentic 2JZ feel to the car.

Since a larger-audio-initiative is on the way, it is only a matter of time now.

I can’t say if I’m sold on the larger audio initiative. We’ve gotten mixed results so far. Perhaps, they need more time. Ehh… whatever.

Got back at the game after a few months. Game updated so I had a look at the release notes. The F430 sounds better but not quite as detail-rich and satisfying to hear as it is IRL.

But what did they do to the Supra RZ sound? It does not sound accurate, especially with full upgrades applied, it no longer has that fierce 2JZ scream with the turbo whoosh. They captured that so well. Don’t know why they changed the sound.

Terrible idea, very disappointed with the 1998 Supra RZ sound.

If I’m not mistaken, this is the second sound update this car has had? So, prior to Update 18, the sound was PERFECT. Have you guys heard a real Supra RZ (1998) in stock and fully upgraded form? You had such a good sound for it, why ruin it?

Restore the sound please, this car is no longer driveable with this fake and forced sound!

Good Lord… What have you guys done with the '98 Supra RZ sound?!!

It sounds like the “wrong” Supra sound from Forza Horizon 3!!

It was perfectly fine, has that loud, obnoxious, and hair raising 2JZ scream it’s so well known IRL after full upgrades.

Why did you replace that with a boring inaccurate sound that’s more of an M4 note than anything else??

I am really upset this time and would like the team to revert to the previous sound ASAP!

The sound required NO updating whatsoever apart from some dynamic range rebalancing in cockpit. Please give me back the previous sound, it was among my favourite cars to drive and I praised the sound at every opportunity I got.

Nah both sound terrible still and inaccurate.

At least the previous sound was much closer to an actual '98 Supra. What kind of sound setup are you running?

The '98 Supra sound was easily among the best samples in the game, right next to the LFA and Carrera GT, e.g. It’s now massacred, doesn’t sound anything like an actual stock or fully upgraded Supra RZ.

Then hurry up and let the sound guys use your personal supra to correct the sound…

There’s no correction required. They simply need to revert it. The audio team ruined the sample for no explainable reason. It was pretty much spot on, particularly with full upgrades on.

More videos for reference:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbA-ggQIOw4 (Forza sound before Update 18 - Skip to after 3 mins to listen to that exhaust - far closer to an actual 1000+ HP Supra)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSukCXnDEUA (Real life Supra - This video has sound captured from both views to help the devs see how the previous Supra sound after full upgrades was far more accurate than the current sound which is completely off in pitch, tone, character, etc.)

Dunno what “audio initiative” the team is following at the moment, but here’s a fully modified Supra RZ from Forza Motorsport 5.

Notice the turbo sound, straight piped sound, fully cammed engine, exhaust reverb, etc. The Pre-Update 18 sound was very close to this.

Speedster996 |  Xbox (cockpit)

Speedster996 |  Xbox (replay - not the best as I wiped out and didn’t record further to showcase full acceleration sound on straights)

Speedster996 |  Xbox (all views, upshifts, downshifts, neutral revving, acceleration, deceleration)

The FM23 Supra RZ sound with full upgrades was pitch perfect, sounded better than the FM 5 version, IMO. I really could CARE LESS about the stock sound. I want the fully upgraded sound to be the way it was before Update 18.

@T10ManteoMax Sorry for tagging you, I know I’m not supposed to as per community rules and whatnot, but can you please get this feedback to Mike and Nick? Thank you very much!

I agree fully. Needs to be reverted. Sound was very nice before the recent update. I tried to simply test drive with the updated sound…nothing but disappointment.

It is extremely cringy and completely wrong. I dunno what possessed then to give it an M4 sound. It now sounds almost exactly like the “wrong” Supra RZ sound from Forza Horizon 3.

Anybody with a good amp and speaker setup who drove this car with full upgrades before Update 18 cannot possibly look the other way and NOT call out this new sound as fake, made up, and plain wrong. It has none of the characteristics of a fully modified Supra, not even the stock Supra sound.

Talk about building the perfect castle and then smashing it to bits. The previous Supra RZ sound was pitch perfect to my ear, based on real life experiences and observations. They absolutely must revert it to the Pre-Update 18 sound or I’m simply not wasting time on this game anymore waiting for miracles to happen.

Either improve the sound or don’t touch perfectly good sounds, Turn 10 Studios!

The thing is rather than reverting back to the previous sound, I say just give them some source to take the sound from. To be very honest, I have analyzed the sound, it is not what I expected. Someone create another post regarding the improvement of this new supra sound.

I find these a lot better when Forza was at it’s very best state. I am dropping some links below and hope devs get a quick check on what went missing while fixing the sound. This really needs to be addressed.

Devs can just use these as samples for the Supra:

The FM3 and FM4 to me had the best supra sound, the best times of Forza. If the devs somehow manage to use these sounds as a sample, it will be the very best moment for all of us. Even the Lamborghini Murcielago sound update was not right (It sounded like a Gintani Aventador, check these ones out below, THOSE are the right ones). So where to look for the samples? Easy answer, FM3, FM4 and even FM6. My only humble request to the dev is to NOT rush and rather refine the samples of those sounds and use them effectively. @JetPartySalad I am not happy with the sound update, but it is to tell you that please do not close this post yet. I want you to let the devs know about this.

Thank you.

If they can nail the sound for cars like the LaFerrari and 812, they can certainly do so with the '98 Supra RZ. We got updates to some of the V12 Lambos as well and those turned out nice. Then there’s the LFA… Pure gold.

They had a really great sound for this car, I’ve absolutely no clue whatsoever as to why they’ve now given it a low pitched and rumbly M4 sound. If they can’t source a Supra RZ for now, especially for recording fully upgraded sounds - fine, just use the previous sound for now, at least it resembles the 2JZ both stock and max upgrades and has reasonably good dynamic range in the various views.

OR, they could just use the sound from the previous FM games as inspiration, those are pretty much spot on too.

I’m fairly certain they did not bring in an actual LaFerrari or 812 onto a dynamo or asked a pro driver to push it on a track to record sounds. There’s literally hundreds of sources to get a car sounds from and then work your magic using your internal sound engineering methods and whatnot. They nailed the LaFerrari/812 - they can nail the Supra RZ. It’s a legend, they really cannot afford to have a crappy sound for this car, especially how it has sounded great in ALL previous FM games.

I’m just not going to accept this half hearted half baked sound. If I were Mike or Nick, I’d really be shaking my head right now: “How could this even happen…?”

I have been actively avoiding the Mk4 Supra in FM because of its atrocious, deformed model, so it is news to me that at any point in time its sound in this game was accurate to any extent. And since it was but isn’t anymore, it should be reverted. Simple as
