Top 500 times

So, as it was rather obnoxiously pointed out to me the other night, you aren’t worthy around here with only 9 times in the top 500. Well, at first, I got a chuckle out of that because I wasn’t even aware that I had that many. I was so bad when I started out that I have just been focusing on basic things and tuning to try and improve as a whole. I haven’t given leaderboard times a thought really. I just figured that for someone who has only been playing for a couple of months, that I was actually a little proud of that. However, I got thinking about it and it made me mad. So I went and knocked out three more top 500 times this morning, bringing my total to 12. What I want to know is, what is the quota? How many top 500 times do you need to have before the elitists around here consider you worthy? Will 20 do? How about 30? 50? I now know that top 500 times are the measuring stick, but nobody has told me just how many are needed. I’m just looking to be informed…

If it matters to you, pick a level and declare yourself one of the “elitists.” Does anyone really pay attention to that stuff anyway?

On the internet, everyone is exceptional, unique and above average in every way.

Yes I am…Apart from everybody else who are all the same and not as good as me at everything:)

Pointed out on these forums? Link?

9 top 500 times is better than my 1 I think most drivers just try to get better each run, but pointing out that someone elses stats are not elite was childish i know how you got angry.

@ lou dont take the elitists around here so serious . it does not matter how many to 500,100,10s you have the only thing that matters is that you are enjoying the game your way. if they say blah, blah and they talk down to you ignore and wait for an intelligent response from the laid back people here on the forums.

if you need help ask but try not to get into a war over it lol we know its hard at times.

I have tons and tons of top 100 times and I still think I stink…lol.

your doing fine man…I have a few friends who are literally top5 drivers and they are all very cool about it… they dont go around saying " Im the best and you all suck" So dont pay those other types any mind man… just keep up the driving and have fun

Doing better than me when I first started this series in FM2. I’d say it was about a year until I got my first.

I wouldn’t worry about it unless you’re trying to go toe to toe with someone. Just keep plugging along.

What is your goal anyways?

Sorry guys, I’m just reacting to something that was said to me on the forums the other night. Instead of being an adult about it, I’m being rather childish… I’ll stop

Anyway Swerve, my only goal is to have fun with the game. I didn’t bother with any video games for a long time and then started playing this and its been a great distraction from the real world stress that I deal with on a daily basis. What I found out quickly was that the game wasn’t any fun at all for me until I started to get the hang of it. Once I did, then I became really hooked and wanted to get better. The more I improve, the more I want to take it even further. Its not about competing per se, just an inner drive within me to get good at things. I have no idea how I stack up against most of you, but it really doesn’t matter in the end. All that matters is that I get to smile for an hour or so each night and forget about the bills that are due… Why someone throwing stats in my face irked me so much, I really don’t know. Besides, I’m more intrigued by the tuning aspect of the game than I am the leaderboards.

Yea this game is a good stress reliever. I’d be a mess if it wasn’t for late night racing. This game and Assassin’s Creed are the two best at making me forget for a bit so I can have a good nights sleep.

If you have that inner drive to be good, eventually you’ll look to competing in some form to satisfy that drive. It’s why this game has unlimited replayability. There’s always something to get better at and to shoot for and you can always pause one thing and attempt another aspect of the game.

Would love to know why you feel others are elitist. I have always thought this place had a broad field of racers from those who can pop top 5 times in to those who are in the 1,000’s +. The only time you see people get annoyed is when people rant on about how they have played for weeks and how they cant get top 10 times and are 5 seconds off the pace.

We all start somewhere and we all have targets for the games we play. Besides, the times you see on the boards are mainly done in hotlapping. It’s one thing pounding around on your own and doing a fast lap out of 20…but when it comes down to racing being fast in a pack and using skill is a whole different game. There are fast lappers and there are fast racers.

Bingo. I’d say being a fast racer is harder. Definitely something I struggle with and is probably why I prefer it. It’s a challenge to stay consistent every day in all sorts of cars and still run times at or around what you know you’re capable of.

he is referring to the way some people come across when they post responses. even if they arent trying to, they appear kind of pompous…like their little group of buddies is so much better than everyone else. its like high school around here sometimes.

it is the internet anyway.

Top 100’s on every track in every class with a good peppering of top 10’s, a 2400 on the SAT and a 152 on a Stanford-Binet or you should be playing Need for Speed.

I don’t think that looking only at the position is a good way to read the LB. I would rather look at the gap from the player in the first position, suppose you are just one second behind the leader, ragardless of the position on the LB you are probably a good driver.
But you should just think about having fun and enjoy the game, if your lap time is not yet as good as you wish you shouldn’t get too mad, with practice and patience improving is always possible.

I would much rather be in a race with fast racers than hot lappers. I by no means am the fastest but when it comes to racing i know how to drive hard, fast and clean. Thats what makes this game fun not how many top 500 times somebody has. Is it impressive to have a lot, yes, but it doesnt mean that they get to be jerks about it. Like swerve was saying man just have fun and if somebody aggravates you either dont respond or kill him with kindness.

Too right! I know a fair few top 50 drivers that once you enter them in the race and they no longer have the “hotlap” line and pressure from all sides they fall to pieces.

A pure hotlapper will see the fastest way around a corner, a racer will see the fastest way around a driver + the corner + the next corner.

I dont know who told you “So, as it was rather obnoxiously pointed out to me the other night, you aren’t worthy around here with only 9 times in the top 500.”
But that was dumb…

The guy who ridiculed you did you a favor. That lil voice you hear about your top 500’s should push you a little harder. Sometimes tough love is the best route. The worst thing one could do to somebody is lie to them. Being consistently bad isn’t good, being average isn’t good. Sometimes being top 100 isn’t good. But stop labeling people as “elitist” because they know what it takes and see others coddling and not really helping.
