Okay … got a question that I’d like to run by some of you guys who’ve been around the Forza block when it comes to painting.
Working on a design … it’s an original race livery that I’ve come up with. The sponsor logos and placements I’m using are loosely based on an actual car. [Actually more than loosely … I’m using almost all the actual sponsor logos and placing them pretty much where they actually are.] But the car I’m using for reference has a big 'ol number board on the sides and hood that just doesn’t really work with the design I have in mind. Size, placement and particularly colors don’t really seem to work for me.
What do you think … include the number board or leave it off? What have you guys done in the past in this situation? If it just doesn’t fit with the paint scheme?
Personally if its a race livery it should have some sort of numberboard. Whether it be a full series board or a temporary ‘taped on’ version like to see at some track days.
Fictional or a real numberboard will make the livery more complete and more realistic but its down to your personal preference.
Don’t always feel like you have to use the board mentioned on the car, use artistic license and why not switch it to one you see as more appropriate to the livery and car?!
Hey, if it really needs to be numbered and the number board looks bad you could always just run the numbers without the board at all. While this could be a poor example, think about NASCAR… They’d look pretty silly with number boards wouldn’t they? But if you also took away the numbers themselves a lot of paint schemes just wouldn’t look right…
Lots of race series use numbers that work with the livery instead of the number board, NASCAR was cited but Trans Am cars also always had stylized numbers, Indy cars, F1 (though they barely put the numbers on them at all). If you are making a livery that isn’t a replica and isn’t trying to fit in with a particular series my opinion is that doing a number board instead of a number that works with the livery is a bit lazy. I say it is a bit lazy mostly because a number board on a fantasy race livery is a technique I use as a short cut. I’m admittedly being lazy and uncreative if I use a number board or ball on the car with a canned font number rather than making a custom stylized number that works with the livery.
I personaly don’t like numbers or boards, I prefer the weekend warrior or drag car look myself, but if your doing a rep than do a rep, don’t cheat the livery.
Appreciate everyone’s comments and suggestions. Decided to go with just a number by itself that matches the look and color scheme of the design without the board. Thought that would be best and it does look good (at least to me) as it’s an original creation and not a replica of any real-world car.
It really depends on what your going for. You said it’s an original, so really you can do anything with it. If you want to go more replica than original, include it… one of the only great things about this game is you can do it both ways… and not take up a space in your sharing, cause you can share as much as you want… unlike older games where you had limited space in a storefront.
Why don’t you ‘share’ when done both versions?
The Galag P1 I’ve done I’ve done exactly that as I prefer it with out a huge chuffing number on the side.
