So I just finished the Finale race and I’m upgrading a few favorite cars to the max before I start playing online and what not, but I’m upgrading a Ram Runner and was looking at the tire as I went to install the race tire compound and wondered if that just generically makes it handle better on road and off road or if there is a trade off between the obviously off road stock tires and the obviously on road semi slick tires.
I wish I had an answer for you, but I too am wondering this. Without rally upgrades it’s hard to tell because these street/race upgrades do increase the vehicles stats but obviously racing slicks would not be good off road or in the rain. I do not know if the game takes that into consideration.
I reckon race tyres are going to improve the grip everywhere. If you look at the way Turn 10 have structured the modifications, they progress in the order Street, Sport and Race. The alternative for tyre upgrades would be to have Street, Semi-slick and Slick. Obviously slick tyres aren’t going to be great off-road being optimised only for the track, but installing race tyres presumably means your vehicle will be ideally upgraded for whatever eventuality it faces.

Who knows what we will see as DLC progresses. I’ve also left racing suspension off my rally vehicles because of the ride height, even with the adjustability with race suspension ride height I don’t think you get the clearance of stock suspension.
You can raise the Race suspension back to the stock ride height.
When upgrading, take note of how much length the race suspension takes off the ride height. When tuning, add that amount back to the height.
If the race suspension lowers your car 1.5", add as close as you can to 1.5 inches back to the ride height in the tuning screen.
That way you can approximate stock ride height and have the benefit of adjustable suspension.
For some vehicles, you can raise the ride height even higher than stock. I haven’t tested tires, but I noticed the “Race” tires are not graphically displayed as slicks in FH2, so they probably generically improve all traction. I haven’t purchased any in-game, so I cannot verify this for certain at this time.
