Tips for a new driver?

Just got the game and finished the first season, and now I’m in a bit of a rut. Wondering if there is a guide or tutorial for new players.

I can’t make enough money off races to buy the cars I want, and I don’t make enough skill points to upgrade cars to the point where I can be competitive.

Cars in the auction house are generally way out of my budget.

Is there a way I can improve my money/skills situation?

Buy Porsche 911 3.3 for 150,000CR in Autoshow. Unlock the 300,000CR perk. Sell cheap or remove from garage. Rinse and repeat. Basically using skill points to double your money.

Use a fully unlocked Hoonicorn or Hoonigan Focus at the airstrip to rack up skill points. Sideswipe the orange barriers by the tower, avoiding the brick circles.

Drive off over the far ridge at opposite end of airstrip and return to tower and they will have replenished. Rinse and repeat. Make sure traction control is off, and keep e-drifting to keep the skill points accumulating.

These Hoonigans are powerful and have a 7x multiplier. So rack up 71,000 x 7 each time. Press X once when near the tower to enter drag race event options, but exit quickly. This banks the skill points quicker than waiting for it to time out.

I built up really fast, I started with an Aventador FE. The auction was easier then to win cars for less money, and sell them though. I had all the houses, and 20 Million to spare in about 1 month. So I was buying, and selling mainly. The best car for that is the GT 40 64 for auction. Buy up to 2.5 million, paint the car, and sell for 5 million.

It’s pretty straight forward to progress through campaign which will net you plenty of credits and accrue cars through your level up wheel spins.

Do PR stunts to level up those and get credit bonuses, and wheelspins. Do playlist items that have credits and wheelspins for rewards. Some even have cars.

I’ve bought very few cars from autoshow/auction, maybe 20 out of the over 500 cars I have.

For skills, get the BMW m6 Fe, and works it’s perks to the max, then use it to bank perk points.

There’s no shortcut other than playing the game. Just save your credits. Also get going with Forza rewards to get a weekly bonus.

Want cheaper cars.

Here are things I used to guide me through my progression in this game:

  • Don’t spread yourself too thin. In the beginning, don’t worry about car count, or getting 10 cars from each championship. Focus on 2-3 cars, preferably good all-rounders, that will push you the first half of the “campaign” without wasting too many CR on cars, upgrades, etc.

  • If Street Scene races seem harder, they are. As far as I can tell, because Street Scene races are “free for all”, the AI is tuned differently, so a lot of the time those races un-winnable. To counter that, either lower the difficulty, or race A800 or S1 900 rated cars. Don’t race S2. AVOID X 999.

  • Actually, that’s a general rule, depending on your skill level and difficulty setting, avoid racing X 999 cars. Most of the cars that I actually race (Aventador, Porsche 918, etc.) are tuned to S2 998. Even though it’s not peak 100% performance, it’s… 98% performance, with the added benefit that the AI isn’t crazy, and the car is more enjoyable. I generally save X 999 cars for PR stunts or Forzathon Lives.

  • Speaking of which, don’t ignore the Forzathon Weekly challenge for long (if you don’t have the car required and it’s an expensive car, ignore it), and do the occasional #Forzathon Live. Those points add up, which you can spend on Wheelspins to get more cash/cars.

  • Don’t get frustrated with wheelspin content. In the beginning, wheelspins will be FULL of cosmetic items. Don’t get frustrated with that. It will pass. Once you “win”/unlock every cosmetic items, only cash and cars will be present in wheelspins.

  • Destroy all bonus and fast travel boards. Really, it’s very useful and gives you a lot of XP.

  • Buy houses, but buy smart. These are the order in which you should prioritize buying the player houses:

  1. Fairlawn Manor The Great Ridge 2,000,000 CR Fast Travel Anywhere Perk, Silver Top Hat, 10 Super Wheelspins - MUST HAVE!
  2. Lake Lodge Mortimer Gardens 5,000,000 CR Double Forzathon Points, 5 Super Wheelspins - MUST HAVE / IMPORTANT
  3. The Huntsman’s Lodge Lakehurst Forest 750,000 CR 3 Super Wheelspins, Unlock Skill Song - IMPORTANT
  4. Derwent Mansion Derwent Water 1,500,000 CR Golden Tank Top, 5 Super Wheelspins
The others are not really that important. Bamburgh Castle gives you a barn find rumor, so if you want all barn finds, you should save up to buy it AFTER you have all those houses above.
  • Don’t ignore the weekly championships - if you have time and a predisposition, you can do the weekly championships for extra rewards, but they are not relevant while still progressing through the campaign. Maybe do the PR stunts because they’re quick, generally easy to do, and give cool rewards.

And most importantly,

  • HAVE FUN! Really, I remember the first 100 hours I spent in this game, they were awesome. So many new things to do, so many new cars to drive. It’s so easy to get lost in that fantasy, so allow yourself to have fun and just enjoy the world and cars. Don’t stress about progression, cash, xp, level, they will all come in time.

Thanks everyone, I will grind it out to see what works best for me from your tips.

Not skilled enough to get 3 stars on the skilled events in the winter, or might not have the right cars. Will try again in the other seasons.

Most speed traps/zones and jumps are easy to get 3 stars on with the Mosler. They were cheap and plentiful in the AH last time I looked if you don’t already have one.

Hit me up and I’ll hook u up with some money. My GT is … Outkast Actual

And the point of playing the game is what? To pretend you’re good at something when you’re not?

I don’t particularly care about you’re view… I’m simply offering to help someone that’s in a tight spot. I earned all my money mainly by becoming a legendary painter. Some folks hate the grind and would rather concentrate on the actual racing…if the OP wants my assistance then I’m happy to help and won’t judge…

At the south end of the highway, about 100 meters south of the southernmost traffic circle, there’s a race whose name a can’t remember right now. Sorry about that. But in that race, there are a ton of custom routes that follow the highway. Laps take 3+ minutes so 5 lap races take 15+ minutes. My own custom routes are called something like 15 minute Highway Blast, or something like that.

Now, about any car will get you around 240,000 CR for 15 minutes, but the faster the car, the better. If you get a Vulcan Forza Edition, build it to X class, and then use skill points to max out the perk tree … in these 15 minutes races you will get around 240,000+ CR and up to 100 skill points in one 15+ minute race, so long as you keep over 200 mph on the highway and keep getting ultimate clean racing skills for racing clean. I don’t know of any way to consistently make money and skill points legitimately that is better than this.

I will second the suggestion of the Mosler. The Ferrari Superfast was my go to car for the speed stunts until I discovered the Mosler. For me it is quick and handles well, which is very necessary in the speed zones.

Something I didn’t noticed being mentioned yet.

If you are racing against default Drivatar difficulty try upping it to Highly Skilled or Expert as soon as possible. You gain much more from the races over time than by racing against default Drivatars. Upping Drivatar difficulty doesn’t actually give you 30% more credits but 5% over Expert, IMO not worth it if you are just having fun.

General tip: Game physics and tracks are pretty good, race first against the track, against the clock. Yeah, there are other cars too trying to reach the goal first, but they aren’t the main opponent, beating to clock requires passing them. In other words, once you learn the physics and tracks, how this game works it becomes much more enjoyable. I mostly race with stock vehicles against Expert Drivatars, I have 25 million credits in game and practically nothing I really want left to buy. I have VIP pass though which speeds things up quite a bit but credits shouldn’t be long term issue in game even without it.
