Hi all,
After some advice on the TX wheel. I’ve read a few articles stating it’s got poor reliability and they have been known to stop working within 6 months.
What’s everyone’s experience and opinion of them please.
If you get 6 months out of a Thrustmaster wheel your doing well!
My experience:
My wheel arrived and immediately started burning, with smoke coming out and everything. Went through Thrustmaster support (not the best, but useable), and 2 weeks+ later got my repaired wheel back. It still didn’t work. There was a loose connection somewhere inside the wheel which made it un-usable. Went back through Thrustmaster support, and another 2 weeks+ received a new wheel base. This time everything worked.
WHEN you finally get the thing working, it is actually pretty damn good. I’ve tried it out on both iRacing and Forza 5. In iRacing it is sublime - its a lot smoother and quieter than my previous PC wheel (A Logitech DFGT which I LOVED!). In Forza it’s good but not great, but that’s down to the game. The basic pedals are pretty stiff, but I’ve gotten used to them quite quickly.
I prefer it to the Fanatec CSR overall. What I liked least about the Fanatec was how “heavy” the wheel felt to turn, which made it harder to feel all of the little things the FFB is trying to tell you. On the Thrustmaster the wheel is silky smooth so much better in that regard.
In conclusion: Great wheel. Terrible build quality - but there’s always the warranty!
I’ve had mine since day 1 which makes it about 11 months old. I’ve had no problems.
People who DO have problems are way more likely to post about it than people who don’t. That’s why most of what you read is negative. IMO
I’ve had the wheel since about two weeks after the release of the Xbox One.
Other than the pedals being very stiff initially, and the FFB being overly strong (until I adjusted it), it has worked flawlessly. The latest driver/firmware (v47) made it so now I can use a controller at the same time as the wheel. One of the things I initially hated was that when I was testing a build, I was forced to use the wheel’s controls to do adjustments to a tune, which while workable, wasn’t exactly comfortable. Now, I can use my headset, drive with the wheel and also drop back to the main menu and use the controller to select cars or tweak tunes without any kind of workaround or issue (other than the controller turning off every so often). If I have a complaint, the only one I can think of is that the wheel returns to the default Angle of Rotation (900 degrees) every time the USB is disconnected or the Xbox One is turned off. This is really minor though, because even when I forget to go in Profile and change the settings I can just pause the race/game and use the manual method to set the steering to 360 degrees (my norm for A-D class cars).
