Hey guys, sorry I’m a noob here crashing the forum hoping someone can help me out! I just got this Thrustmaster Spider racing wheel today:
I’ve been trying to race with it for the past few hours and just can’t get it to where I can comfortably race with it. I started looking online and read about adjusting both the in-game advanced settings and holding the 4 buttons on the wheel to adjust the DOR. When adjusting this, the 1 or 2 blinks are impossible to drive with it being so touchy moving the wheel in either direction, and then i turn it in the opposite direction to correct and it violently whips the car in the other direction and into the wall. 3 blinks is the same issue but to a lesser extent, with it being a little bit driveable but I still have to be overly cautious and not overcorrect in the slightest or end up head on into the wall. 4 blinks is the closest thing to driveable for me right now. It would actually be pretty good, except for on sharper corners, when coming out of the corner I straighten the wheel out, but the car does not straighten out, and continues turning hard right into the inside wall, even if I overcorrect and steer away from the turn coming out of it. As for the in-game settings, I have them all set at 0/100 deadzones, and have played with the force feedback all over the board although I’m not sure this wheel even supports that? Also, I am unable to change the “Wheel Rotation Angle” in-game setting which currently shows 240. As I mentioned, 4 blinks currently works best for me which I believe is 900 degrees so I’m not sure if this mismatch is causing some issues and what I can do about it. I also have Horizon 2 which I haven’t tried yet, so hopefully I have better luck with that.
BUMP: Just tried it on Horizon 2 after putting probably another hour into FM5 with no progress. FH2 is quite a bit better as far as being able to control the car goes, but still really tough when compared to driving with a controller. I’ve read up on it a bit more online and a lot of people seem to suggest that the drastic oversteer and understeer issues result from this wheel having no force feedback, so you can’t tell when the tires lose grip. Can anyone out there confirm whether this is the case or likely could be; maybe anyone out there who has used both this wheel and the TX one as well? I’m going to keep working at it awhile longer, but I’m starting to think it may be a lost cause and might get rid of it and then either have to live with a controller or pony up the money for the TX if it’s going to make all the difference between the two wheels.
I’ve had the same problem and have been racing for years with a controller, I’m a good racer always post great times when I try on the leader boards, top 150 ish . I have the wheel setup properly and I can’t get around the track unless it’s an oval. I don’t use any Helps/traction control or “normal steering” I figured I wasted my money. The wheel sits in the corner collecting dust. I’d love to dust it off and try again any tips would be helpful
Some are fast with a wheel and some just aren’t. I’ve tried using a wheel 2 times back in the ps2 era and later again when I bought the ps3 and the xbox 360 and I couldn’t stay on the track, so I’m not going to try using a wheel again.
