Thrustmaster 458 Spider Wheel Drifting Impressions

Hey ya’ll, fairly new to this forum since I’ve browsed all the time but never posted anything. One thing I was always curious about but never found answers to beforehand was about drifting with the 458 Spider Wheel (bungie cord budget wheel), and how it felt. I’ve heard raves about the wheel and how good it was for its price, and suggestions from others to buy the $400 FFB wheel. With me being a casual-ish Forza player, but not hardcore to warrant me to buy the $400 wheel, I opted for the 458 Spider which I got from Gametop.

IMPRESSIONS: Driving feels nice itself when put to the 4th out of 4 sensitivity settings, but this post is about drifting not circuit racing. Having originally used the MS FFB Wheel in Forza 4, it was pretty weird at first having no feedback from fishtailing as well as no vibration, but after a couple practice runs I got the hang of it. While there is no feeling to go by with the lack of vibration and FFB, you pretty much rely on instincts and visuals as well as sounds. My first online race was horrific, but surprisingly after getting used to it I actually got 1st place in a drift event out of 18 or so players.

THOUGHTS: While it does sound cheap as heck to get a wheel that has a bungie cord feature, I’m still enjoying it, and it always gets me giggling like a schoolgirl when i start nailing long drift combos haha. Wheel settings I recommend are same as FFB with the 0/100 settings. If you happen to get the wheel, I recommend using the 4th setting for racing, and the 1st setting for drifting.

If anyone has questions feel free to shoot them, I just bought it this week, but I’ve been glued to Forza 6 when I get the chance since then lol.

Is it kinda of similar to the ms wheel besides no ffb? Can you hold countersteer very well?

I have this wheel in I love it
