I am disappointed with the Leagues mode. I thought there will be public or private custom multiplayer championships league to race with friends. That would be perfect, but I think its possible yet. Some serious Dev can answer my opinion…
I’ve come here today, after playing Forza Motorsport 6 (nearly nonstop) since Thursday, with a few thoughts on Forza’s Leagues.
First off; I love leagues. No wreckers, not much in the way of shenanigans, I get paired with racers who are around my level, and league standings are based on points won - and I love it. The racing is brilliant, regardless of the fact that there’s a lack of body contact, with results often being decided in tenths - no, hundredths of a millisecond!
I bloody love it, but I do have some questions, and things that slightly bother me. I’ll start with my questions first.
#1: What finishing positions get points, and how many points to they get?
#2: Does rain and or night, your league standing, and car PI affect how many points you receive?
#3: Does corner cutting/dirty laps (of which, there is a lot) affect how many points you earn, and does it affect overall?
Bothersome things.
#1: If question three results in a resounding “no”, then corner cutting and dirty laps will become something that really bothers me.
On the first day of the early-access release, I noticed it took almost no time whatsoever for people to begin corner-cutting, and dirtying their laps to get ahead. I also noticed that these dirty racers were at the top of the league leaderboards, which really bothers me, because that infers that there is no penalty, nor reduced point payout for cutting corners and dirtying their laps.
If that’s the case, then a penalty, and or reduced point payout needs to be implemented. Cheaters should never prosper, don’t you agree?
#2: Glitched, OP cars.
All I need to mention is the D-Class, AWD, 1965 Mini Cooper, that can outrun every C, and most B class cars. This, somehow, needs to get fixed. Everyone uses it, and dagnabbit, I hate it.
Alright, so that’s my thoughts concluded. Let me hear yours, I’m interested to hear your thoughts!
The MINI Cooper was thankfully banned from play and the 70’s Grand Prix cars were given their own lobby
There’s still wreckers and will always be wreckers. It’s been a problem since Forza 2
Corner cutting is still happening? They put barriers in a lot of the hotspots.
There better be a time penalty at the end of races for dirty laps. People in Forza 5 were pulling like 2.5 seconds a lap because of their cowardly tactics.
They put barriers up, but they don’t come right up to the apex (and are nonexistent on some corners), and they’re destructible. That means that if one person smashes through it, that opens up a cheater line up for the rest of a race.
And since Leagues are a points game, and point payouts are given dependent on your final race position, it means that cutting corners to get ahead is still popular - and I’ve not seen any penalties, nor point reductions for corner cutting.
The points awarded determine league payout at end of league. Your position on the leader board has no bearing on whether you are promoted or demoted. The reason for this is that a really crap racer like me could race a hundred races and come near top through pure amount of races run and a good racer like you might only race a handful of races and be lower.
I have raced 15 races in Ford GT “grassroots” league and am in top 30 position. I came near back of field every race so I am only that high because of amount of races run
Promotion is determined behind scene based purely on driver skill, how you fare in each race. Leaderboard position is just a reflection of racing a lot (although someone who wins will get more points in each race and climb quicker).
This is good because it stops someone like me climbing ranks through pure frequency of participation. I’m happy with that as I struggle at the bottom
The barriers only prevent the very worst cuts, but you can still shave off a ton of time by cutting corners. Not really fixed. Also the corners that have those exploding tire walls just at the end, are completely pointless. You can plow through them without dirtying your lap. Then it leaves a bunch of tires strewn about the track which can cause cars to lose control.
I dont think leagues are really matching people up yet, it was also just non collisions. I think they’re gathering data for our lap times first, which should be clean considering there are no collisions and you cant draft ,I think the next thing we see will be regular lobbies with collisions, this will enable them to see our aggressiveness, and then theyll be able to figure out how many tiers they’re need and then start grouping people. Alot of people are fast drivers in non collision lobbies, but not everyone is a fast racer. I know we have them now but I don’t think leagues will really get going until they get more data which will probably take a few weeks.
If you look at the division information you will see they already know how many tiers. There are five ranging from top “pinnacle” to bottom “grassroots”.
The rest of what you point out is true though. For awhile you will get fast racers at bottom although some are already promoted to top league as a chap mentioned earlier that he had been promoted to “Pinnacle”
Whats this about a league payout? The D Class one is over now, I fared quite well but never got a payout AFAIK. It’d also be nice to see how the league would have stood without the ballistic OP minis, totally ruined it for me. Most the people at the top of the LB’s I found were running them- experienced Forza players that IMO should know better. But whatever, it was fun whilst it lasted.
It’s been mostly good in the Pinnacle Division, but I do have some early concerns…
My past few races have all involved me getting caught in the Turn 1 smashfest and finishing nearly last because all of the Turn 1 crashers are in their S2000’s and basically just have to stay on the track to maintain their place.
How will this affect them later on? I would hope crashing people and using the same overly good car as every other kid who can’t drive would knock them down. But then you’ve got the guys in the ridiculous cars (B class: S2000, 037, 190E [maybe], etc) who spin a few people out in the beginning, get ahead and just hot lap because they genuinely cannot be caught, and I see them near the top of the points leaderboard.
I don’t want to get knocked down a Division because of Place, when it’s almost always caused by these Leaderboard car using, Turn 1 divebombing children. I can’t win if I race clean right now; that is awful.
BUT, when I get those good lobbies, it’s outstanding!
So yeah, I’m just curious about the filtering after this first week.
