Thoughts on a Forza Motorsport (2023) sequel?

Do you think Turn 10 should do a Forza Motorsport (2023) sequel?

In my prediction is that if they do, it wouldn’t be called Forza Motorsport 2 or 9, my guess is that sequels should be titled by year like what Microsoft Flight Simulator did with 2024.

I hope not. I think they also confirmed that they wont do this and use FM23 as a platform to update throughout its life.

Overall, I think a yearly titled sequel, like Forza Motorsport 2024, could actually make sense if Turn 10 wants to focus on a regular update model, a la Microsoft Flight Simulator.

No, it should be every 4 to 6 years after the last one.

I don’t think Forza Motorsport will survive as a franchise, if they don’t make another game. This live-service , “endless game” , “a platform that’s supposed to be updated over time” is just not gonna cut it long term. They’re shooting themselves in the foot with that mentality. And i think they lied, when they said there’s no another forza motorsport coming.

My speculation is: Although I think they’re good for now, since Turn10 also gets to work on Horizon as well providing the game engine tech. Also isn’t Fable build on the forzatech engine too? I bet that gives them plenty of work too, so as to not be too reliant on JUST Forza Motorsport to be a success.

But once Horizon 6 is done and they’ve shipped most of the expansions and once Fable is out, i’m inclined to believe they gonna get more serious about it. Either that or it’s just becoming a full-time support studio for PG. Which would be a shame.

Some interesting news about this:

“As for Forza Motorsport, we sometimes have to shift our focus to games that will be released earlier. And I also understand that many people reacted when the scale of Turn 10 Studios was reduced. As far as we are concerned, there are many games that we would like to support carefully, and sometimes we give the development team a little more time so that they do not continue to be in a state of tension.”

A few things i gather from this:

  1. He mentions shifting focus to games that will be released earlier (meaning Forza Horizon 6 and potentially Fable) due to both games being basically built on the same Forzatech engine.
  2. He mentions giving Forza Motorsport a little more time so they do not continue to be in a state of tension. Meaning FM WILL continue to be. But for now it’s on pause, which is still good news. Obviously things could change by the time they’re ready to focus on the future FM game + Phil Spencer isn’t the best at keeping promises BUT at least for now we know the game isn’t scrapped. And i know he isn’t talking about the current FM because support for this game basically stopped. And i don’t think it has a chance they go back to releasing NEW content, especially since as we’ve seen from this statement, Xbox is more concerned with shifting focus on the games that will release earlier, which obviously include Forza Horizon 6 and Fable. And rightfully so.

My guess is they could start plotting the game in late 2026/early 2027. And it will come out a few years into the next console generation. But obviously that’s way too far into the distance, so anything could happen by then. So the future of this game is still very uncertain but at least not totally off the table.

And it basically confirms my theory/opinion that there’s no way they could just support the game basically forever as a lot of people seem to think. It’s just not how it works with racing games, unless they started to heavily push for paid content and that’s assuming people actually wanna buy that content. This isn’t the MMO or fps/shooter genre. They need to cook a great game from the start. Live service isn’t the universal fix for bad games. Also FM isn’t Cyberpunk 2077 or No Man’s sky. And i’m saying this because i’ve heard HokiHoshi make that comparison and people genuinely seem to go along with it thinking FM actually has a chance to redeem itself if they pushed more updates. Keep in mind these games are light years ahead than FM when it comes to revenue. Please don’t make such comparisons. The exceptions aren’t the rule.
