Things that were better in older Forzas

Not sure if this leads to anything, but I need to cry a bit.

I’ve played Forza since the first one came back in 2005, and it’s been imo the best driving game series.

From FM1 to FM4 Forza series was going to right direction.

I skipped Forza Motorsport 5.

But week ago I bought Xbox One only for Forza 6 and I’m amazed how many features and things are missing and worse in FM6 than in previous Forzas.

Few ones:

  • Can’t see engine displacement anymore (really? why?)
  • Can’t sort cars by power, torque, year, weight, price, etc… (really missing this)
  • Can’t select cars for AI (pls)
  • Damage model is worse (usually few first hits does 0%, and next hit makes car to undriveable)
  • AI is worse than in Forza 4 (brake checks etc…)
  • Can’t set AI to have no upgrades in career mode (sure I’m not only who wants this)
  • Less information when upgrading (example from FM3: "Install a high-performance, mandrel-bent cat-back exhaust system with stainless steel sport muff…)
  • Bad main-, garage- and car buying menu (in my opinion)
  • Bad paddle shifting animations (not a big deal, but tells something…)
  • No storefront or auction house (knew this, good thing they are coming back in next games)
  • No searchable custom lobbies (c’mon)
  • Modeling errors (Trueno front bumper trim, Golf Mk4 wheels etc…)
  • Missing popular cars (BMW M5 E60, Silvia S14 etc…)
  • Missing popular tracks (Tsukuba, Suzuka etc…)

Of course there is many good new features too, but current direction looks somewhat bad and I will not buy the Forza series anymore if things continue like this in the future.

Sorry about any spelling errors

Apparently you never played Forza 5 you would have a lot more to say about forza 5 than 6 lol. As for the car buying menu its better organized this time around. don’t have to scroll for hours just to get to Honda or something lol. As for the missing popular cars that has to do with licensing issues. For the tracks last I herd it had to do with the engine they used to make Forza 6 that the tracks wouldn’t work right but that could have been wrong when I saw that but it could be licensing issues as well.

Forza 4 and 5 felt more like a polished game, graphically and audio wise. The car roster although i like forza 6s roster the best, forza 4 felt like it had several key models that should have carried over to 6.

That’s one thing I disagree with. I think 6 is much more polished than 5 was. I didn’t like anything about 5: the camera, control, same forced animation every time I rear ended a car, kind of like when you barely touch a tire wall in 6.

…just remember you all paid for those games. Your money is sitting happily in the developers pockets, who are, at this very moment, plotting newer ways to package the same game to you for another $100.

What was it Barnum or Bailey were famous for saying?

If only all the DLC could be had for $40, that would be fantastic.

The multiplayer. Sure there were wreckers in older games, but Forza 6 lobbies make racers in older games look like angels.

Custom Public lobbies

I came straight form fm4 but the one thing I miss are the engine sounds. They sounded a lot healthier especially with the supercharger whine.

So you bought an XB1 just for Forza 6 and you didn’t bother to do some research to see what features were or were not in the game? Even a cursory scan of this forum would have told you all you need to know.

Gotta say after the pile of crap that Forza 5 was I was impressed with 6. It seemed like they had actually put an effort into fixing a lot of issues that 5 had and brought back a ton of missing features. The reintroduction of the storefront and auction house in FH3 shows me that Turn 10 is going in the right direction and is actually listening to its customers.

Forza 4 will probably always be the best Forza, but when you think about how much money they must’ve had to spend on licensing alone it’s kinda obvious why the latest games haven’t stacked up in terms of cars and tracks.

I’ve played every forza game in the series (including the horizon spin-offs) and most of your list seems pretty legit but there are a few things. The damage model in terms of simulation is much more realistic than the previous forza games but yes it can take a few more hits to take effect. The main menu, car buying menu and garage menu are far cleaner, simpler and easy to sort through. The paddle shifting animations are terrible for 90% of the car but there are a few cars that have really nice shifting animations that look cleaner at least. The popular cars and tracks are most likely down to licensing. There are a few things I’d like to add too.

The effects of wind noice, sound echoing off walls and the car collision sound was far more prominent or better in Forza 5.

The career mode I thought was the best in Forza Motorsport 2. And the worst in Forza 6.

Some customisation was lost through the franchise like painting brake calipers, these features are returning to Forza Horizon 3 though.

If you look at the GIF that’s the nice shifting animation that’s on some cars… the majority of cars have this clumsy over exaggerated animation that looks like your slapping someone across the back of the head for them taking the last pork pie.

  • visible true skill
  • tracking of overall wins and podiums
  • career race leaderboards

I too bought the xbox one for Forza 6 (well, everyone was out of the forza bundle so I bought the Gears of War bundle and got Forza… free actually WHOO HOOOOO) and came straight from FM4.
In general, I’m pretty happy. I think the driving experience is better, love the new cars and tracks and I’m pretty happy so far with the events, etc. I do agree with some of your list but, to me they’re more minor annoyance than anything. The one thing I really noticed was the fact that you can’t sort event cars by type, etc. as you noted - I would like that but I’m pretty happy with the fact that my car is not the only one on track with a livery like in 4 so - at least for now, I don’t really have any legitimate complaints.

I wonder if the engine noise is a function of much quieter cabins in the real world cars now as compared to 3-5 years ago but, I only do cockpit so I’m not sure if its any better ‘outside’ the car. I’ll try later just out of curiosity.

-No car clubs or car club rollup for hotlapping (Best club lap times were averaged making club competition meaningful- Forza 1)
-No available manufacturer engine swaps. (Ex. For Honda Civic EG → B18c1, B18c, H22a, K20a, F20c-- All available in Forza 1 and 2)
-Choosing tire brands when upgrading (options after choosing the compound – Kumho, Hoosier, Dunlop…etc)
-No custom public lobbies (sigh)
-Missing several real life old tracks that were never carried over, even though the ones that did get carried over were never laser scanned anyways (Ex. Road Atlanta)
-No fantasy tracks from previous games. ( Tokyo, Fujimi Kaido, Maple Valley…list goes on…)
-No auction House/ Storefronts (Now coming to Forza Horizon 3…Wow thanks T10)
-No career, local, or overall LB’s
-PI still broken and unchanged since Forza 3 (HP/TQ numbers are identical per upgrade on almost every car that has been in game since F3)
-Tuning is the same since Forza 1 (Way to keep pushing and implementing T10. Bravo)

What is better about Forza 6 though?
-Better graphics

-and that’s it

My review of the game —> Forza Motorsport 6 - Review - Turn 10 Has Lost Their Direction - YouTube - It’s harder to find because T10 actually removed their association with it. What a surprise.

Just if you don’t use a livery on the car. Even those wonderful well created liveries from the painters aren’t enjoyable in races. And it’s only caused of the ability to have 24 players in a lobby.
Even in FM4 a livery looked better than now. What a shame and big step backwards.

Yeah but… 60fps at 1080p!

Forza 6 is by far the most complete and polished racing game out there right now. If you don’t like it and want to complain about little things then go play Project Cars and Gran tourismo or something which aren’t even half the game forza is.

its really ridiculous how much overrated american crab cars from 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s are. i mean these were built to go straight. nothing more. they can’t more. in reality you would blame every american 500 hp misconstruction with a 150 hp european car…

i know from other games, you just need enough guys whos been annoy the developers and you get your wish… is that the case?

Whatever, The variety in the Forza series and “cough cough” the GT series is one of the things that makes these games great. I personally would love to see more of the classic American cars! The removal of features from the previous games is one of the major problems with the current versions, which I still love. Removing more option, especially with car choices would be a disaster. Maybe Assetto Corsa will be more to your liking when it lands.
