My thoughts on Forza 6, multiplayer, and the growth of the Forza series

I’ve played Forza since FM2 back in 2007, I think each one was an improvement from the next, except for FM5. I feel like 5 was rushed and lacked a lot of what us die hard fans enjoy.

I bought it late on because when I heard it was launching with about half as much cars as FM4, and no Nordschleife (I know now it came as free DLC), I lost interest.

Even having purchased FM5 a year after release, it felt like a cash cow because nearly half the cars you could buy required you to spend real money on car packs, so if you didn’t keep up with the car packs, you were looking at spending over £40 on cars, of which only some I would use.

Forza 6 to me is what Forza 5 should have been, from what I’ve played, it’s awesome, car physics seem to have been improved, graphics (that rain!?), the car list is pretty big and I’m happy with the selection of cars, a tonne more tracks and the menu for buying/selecting cars has been improved, one of my pet hates was that all the cars were just in one big line and you couldn’t select a car by manufacturer… however, searchable custom lobby’s are still not back, the auction house isn’t there, no storefront, no gifting cars (which was great for buying paints and tunes from people on the forum), so to me it still lacks that multiplayer depth that Forza 4 held so well and that’s what I really loved about it.

Forza 6 lacks that vital component that Forza 2, 3 & 4 had with custom lobbys, you can’t just set up a lobby and call it ‘Drift session’ or ‘Cruise around Circuit de la Sarth’, there’s nothing there anymore which connects racers with other racers based on similar interests, unless of course you look for these lobbys on here, TwitchTV or reddit etc.

This photo of our drift team back in 2009 from Forza 3 shows just what we could achieve with public custom lobby’s, half the members in that photo were recruited from them, now we have to do it on forums or here, which isn’t so bad but having no in-house system that allows this to happen passively kinda sucks…

I’ll shut up now, Forza 6 kicks ass and I can’t wait to get some hours into it, perhaps I just miss the glory days of multiplayer, haha.

This is a dead horse beaten so much that it’s just puree of horse, and it’s always been posted by people that have no concept of how games are made. Turn 10 can’t simply take all of FM4’s cars, tell Xbox One to improve their model details and textures, and then add some new cars. There’s no make-car-models-better button. Someone has to actually go in and labor to produce content for Xbox One so whatever cars were last-gen on 360 don’t count on One. So, Turn 10 whipped up 200+ cars for an Xbox One launch title, not counting DLC. Now, to put that into perspective, how many cars did Driveclub have? How many cars were in Project CARS? How about The Crew? FM5 had way more cars than other racing games. Quit pretending FM5 came up short on cars.

I agree with the OP. I actually bought the XBOX ONE for my kids so they can play their little hearts out with Minecraft and the Lego games. I saw Forza 5 on the shelf and grabbed it quick as lightning. As soon as I started playing, I noticed the small list of cars available to buy with fredits and the large number of cars to buy with real money. I thought it was a money grab. So yes, FM5 DID indeed come up short on cars. I think you are in the minority on thinking that FM5 having plenty of cars. Comparing it to Project Cars car list is absolutely irrelevant. No shade here so don’t take my reply as me being negative to you.

Of course, but the fact they had to develop such a small amount of cars to meet a deadline meant that the timing of launch was priority over the quality of the game, thus disappointing avid FM fans.

Driveclub was a completely new game, they had to model each car from the ground up, and I imagine they didn’t have a physics engine at hand that they could tinker with and revamp for the next game, same with Project Cars, the physics engine in that is so advanced each car feels like each car should, and it’s an actual simulator, whereas in all the Forza’s there isn’t that much of a difference in the way cars feel to the point that it’s extremely noticeable, like in Project Cars.

I’m not saying FM5 was a bad game! It just didn’t do anything for me, IMO it wasn’t a game developed for the lifelong Forza Motorsport fans, it was a game made to sell with the launch of the Xbox One, and it did a good job of doing so.

I dont think hes saying fm5 had a lot of cars. I think he means that given the huge challenge of modeling 200 or more cars in time for a console launch, they offered more than other games debuting on the console.

I can’t enjoy Forza 6 as much as I enjoyed Forza 4.

  1. they removed the storefront (you can’t see all the designs and setups made by a specific user, you can’t rate and search from 1 to 5 stars)
  2. they removed all the nice tracks like Suzuka, Tsukuba, Sunset, Camino Viejo, Maple, Sedona, Motegi
  3. circuit rotation in lobbies is bugged (always the same 3-4)
  4. they removed the EFFECTIVE votekick system that was in FM4. It’s a complete MESS with all the wreckers and noobs.
  5. microphone doesn’t work for all players in a lobby. Most of the time you can hear nobody.
  6. own car sound is very low
  7. fonts are too small
  8. players get disconnected from lobby randomly

1), 2), 3), 4) and 8) are a copy-paste of FM5. They didn’t change anything.

There are certainly other problems but these are affecting my experience with FM6 at the moment.

Yeah I really miss the storefront! The array of paints it shows you just isn’t enough!

I’m yet to try out multiplayer, but I can see my controller being broken very soon after seeing all the feedback peoples experiences…

Greetings,

For me Forza stopped being a racing simulator when you got penalised because someone drafts you.

I would love to see the following added at some point;

  1. Suzuka
  2. Maple Valley
  3. Camino Viej

I tried MP once, won’t be trying again…

Yeah I tried multiplayer this morning, literally can’t start a race without getting smashed into.

I find even trying to be cautious just causes you to be a bigger target too!?
