There’s a legitimate advantage over controller users when it comes to fine adjustments at high speeds, and when you pair up with another car who has the ability to smoothly adjust their line (wheel or otherwise), there’s no better feeling than working together to bump draft through the field.
I’ve found the default rack ratio a little slow when using the default 900° on my DD, but dialing the steering ratio to 90% in the tuning menu gives these NASCAR models a nominal turning rate.
I wish there was a way to make this type of steering better for controller/gamepad users.
Even the old rim/roll steering method can be twitchy at high speeds, and it’s been a mess trying to cleanly race nose-to-tail & door-to-door in this NASCAR multiplayer series.
I haven’t used the pad in a minute, but is there a linearity option like on FH5? Maybe there’s an extreme you could test, I think lowering the linearity means that the majority of input comes at the extreme ends of joystick travel which might open up more flexibility in the rest of its range.
Better more precise dead zone adjustments would help a lot. Instead of trying to tune the car to be less sensitive, possibly being lil slower. Dad likes gt7 for the ability to put less grippy tires up front. Still you shouldn’t have to do that, to use a controller and be smooth as a steering wheel user around an oval track.
Even the right joystick forward for throttle, it’s difficult to maintain certain rpm’s steadily. The trigger buttons seem more precise vs joystick. I can’t use a button anymore esp with hand control. Since they gave us dual joysticks dad and I have been using one for steering and the other has been gas and brake for as long as I can remember. The only way we use our hand controls.
The oval races have been good, they’re well balanced in terms of tyre wear too with multiple viable strategies.
I hope rolling starts are eventually permanent in all Featured Multiplayer series, it certainly helps clean up the grid and makes Turn 1 a little less dicey.
Had my first NASCAR race today. On a wheel and qualified 1st. Was still out in front by a good margin with 8 laps to go and was taken out lapping a slow car. Still really enjoyed it though. Some seat of pants overtakes 3 wide and I suspect a genuine advantage being on wheel.
Yeah, it appears to be an exception.
I’ve lapped cars that were not ghosted in these new NASCAR lobbies.
I also lapped cars that were not ghosted in the prior Mustang multi-class lobbies - even cars that were in my own class/group.
Almost had accidents/collisions because I expected to be able to zoom right through them.
It’d be nice if the game made these things clear up-front instead of having to find out the hard way.
I’ve mentioned this elsewhere, Raceboys road course tune for the Toyota CAMRY around Eagle Rock is incredible with a wheel. The downshift from 5th to 4th & tap of the brakes on corner entry initiates a bit of oversteer you can control into the apex. Feels great when you get used to it.
I sub to his channel but typically don’t find his tunes that great for wheel use. The basic meta strategies (ie tuning logic that goes against irl concepts) is similar, but I often find myself fine tuning alignment, ignoring his tire logic, suspension geometry logic, and a few other things to maximize smooth input and throttle.
Interestingly enough, the minimum downforce on the rear is 520lbs so my setup running 540lbs in the rear doesn’t leave too much for “far less rear aero”.
524lbs in the front is the max. 520lbs in the rear is the min.
