The GT Spec Series is Fantastic

As a long time player, and more specifically, a long time GT Racer on Forza, I have to say that the new multiplayer revamp is utterly fantastic. The fact that multiplayer has practice, qualifiers, penalties, safety rating, driver rating and that lapped cars are ghosted now is a dream come true. I’ve had ZERO wreckers or wreckfest lobbies; everyone I compete against is generally a really clean racer and an incredibly fast racer. The rating system has been working gloriously. We GT racers have been begging for this since Forza 5 and I’m beyond thrilled that it’s here.

I only have a few very, very minor gripes and they are the only things keeping the series from being an A#, 10 out of 10 experience for me.

  • Firstly, I wish the maps would change daily rather than weekly as it seems it’s going to be. I’m rather bored of racing the same 5 tracks every day for a whole week (although I’ve gotten very fast on a few of them because of the sheer amount of practice I’m getting in).

  • Secondly, tyre wear seems a bit excessive/extreme in the GT series. I understand the idea of balancing the tyres so that there are pros and cons to using each of them and I agree with it, but it seems a bit weird that I can completely destroy soft tyres in only 2 laps on certain tracks.

  • Thirdly, there needs to be an intermediate tyre at some point. The wets deteriorate far too quickly.

  • Lastly, the 2018 #44 Audi GTD car is a little too quick, IMO. On some tracks, it’s the only viable choice. Every other car seems very well balanced and a good driver, with a good tune can make any car fast which is outstanding. The Audi is the only borderline outlier, IMO.

Other very, very minor constructive criticisms I have is that it would be nice if there was a GT Spec specific leaderboards that we could view whenever we’d like; it would also be cool to see what tyre someone was using on the in-race leaderboard when they set a lap time during an event.

All in all though, I’ve experienced some of my all-time favorite racing moments already in a Forza title, while racing in the GT Series. The multiplayer changes have been a long time coming and have been greatly needed in Forza.

Well done, Turn 10. It was well worth the 6 year wait for me.
