Do you think at some point they’ll add an offline patch before they close the servers ? (whenever that may be)
I play both and I prefer Forza. Can’t speak for multiplayer but I much prefer the singleplayer on Forza. There are moments in GT7 where I think the graphics are better but for the majority it’s definitely Forza. On my Series X/LG C1 setup anyhow. I much prefer the presentation and menus on Forza. Much more minimal and the music is much more to my taste personally. The Cafe menus are… erm… quirky on GT7. I do like the challenges on GT7. Reminds me of happy days on Project Gotham Racing. GT7 has no alternative to Rivals. The arcade style gold, silver, bronze for tracks is great on GT7. I like the fact that Forza is a bit less sim than GT7. Forza has always been a worthy competitor with GT7 and they have always been compared anyway. I think Forza has alot to offer and it would be great for PS5 users to have a go. Racing game fans will always play multiple games anyhow. I play FM, Dirt Rally 2, WRC, FH4 & 5 at the moment. Obviously too much time on my hands!
I play both & slightly prefer Forza as well , though I dont think either game is the best in their series. GT7 is a good game & I do enjoy its FreePlay mode were I can tinker with settings & get the racing more closer , or use Sophy , but in Career it feels very sterile & each race with the standard A.I. can be very predictable .
I spend most time on F1.25 from it launched but i’ll make time for FM & GT plus I try to set aside a night for Rally , usually one of the WRC games or Dirt 2.0
I own both, and if Motorsport 2023 had been little more than Motorsport 7 with a fresh coat of ray-traced paint, I could see myself recommending it. Problem is, it’s not. For all of Gran Turismo 7’s faults, it’s a game that still has the backing and support of a team who respects the subject matter. That vibe is largely gone from Forza. Depending on who you ask, it’s been gone for a while (personally, I think they still had something with Motorsport 7, and 6 is probably my personal favorite of the entire series). For all of the hate GT7’s Menu Books get, I find it perplexing that people look at the Builder’s Cup and find that acceptable. And as I’ve said repeatedly, Gran Turismo’s AI may be rudimentary (Sophy excepted), but it’s consistent, and I’d rather have that consistency than the hot mess that is Forza AI. The game is also the worst-looking game that I own out of a library that consists of multiple systems; no other game requires me to adjust settings like this game does, and frankly the adjustments I have to make to get this looking OK ends up making my other games look worse.
The rolling starts are baffling in GT7. I’m guessing they do it to avoid the complications of collisions from standing starts. I don’t know what the reason is to be honest. It marks it down a notch or two for me. I love Dirt Rally 2 & WRC. The BMW M1 Procar is absolutely insane ![]()
I had my frustrations with the AI. I would thrash the AI but the next race it would drive off into the distance within a lap. Or on a straight it would gradually drift into me. The recent update has improved it though. It has got better.
And the Builders Cup. It did feel barebones didn’t it. But alot of singleplayer content has been added in the last 2 updates. An entire new Championship. And monthlys made permanent. It feels much more like Forza used to. I think there are now 29 tracks with 73 layouts now as well. Although I do miss tracks from earlier games. New challenges in Rivals as well. Lots to keep me going until I reach my ceiling. Probably level 6!
I’m trying to think of track racing games that look better than FM23 on Xbox & PS5. GRID Legends does I guess. But it’s arcade isn’t it. I don’t think F1 looks better than Forza. All in all, FM & GT7 are pretty equal but FM shades it for me. But Forza does have dynamic weather which can be very impressive. If I get into tuning I’ll probably just download someone else’s anyway😊
Anyway. Let’s hope FM does survive. It’s not just Microsoft. Look at what EA has done to Codemasters. Will we ever see another Dirt Rally?
Maybe Microsoft should do a courtesy to FM’s fans and sell the FM IP to a developer that has the passion to make a racing game for gamers as well as for profit.
Normally, I’d agree with this. I’d have advocated for it. I probably did advocate for it at one point or another. But right now, I don’t know who I would trust with resuscitating and revitalizing this franchise. Kunos and Reiza already have their own projects. Bizzare Creations doesn’t exist anymore. Playground Games is the logical next step, but they have Horizon to worry with and to be perfectly blunt, I don’t particularly trust them either; I’m cautiously optimistic that they are on the path to leaving behind the corporate-driven misfires that were Horizon 4 and 5, but I won’t be sure of that until I’ve had at least a month to try their next entry on Game Pass, because I certainly won’t be pre-ordering or buying sight-unseen any more Forza games after the last few years.
While theres no way to know the numbers, ive seen quite a few mazda furais and mustang gt3s in multiplayer. I think it probably has a favorable sale ratio with the players in multiplayer.
As far as releasing on ps5, i still think itd do pretty well. Gt7 is what it is for better or for worse. I enjoyed the nostalgia but imo it has stagnated. I think any racing game that released right now would pick up quite a few sales.
The biggest issue gt7 has right now is its multiplayer. Its lacking choice, its boring and monotonous, forza motorsports multiplayer is the complete opposite and i think many gt7 fans would enjoy it.
While i think its unlikely, i dont think it would be a bad idea. Regardless of its shortcomings to long time fans, it would be something new to playstation players and they wouldnt know the difference.
I dont think it’d be a bad idea if it was cost effective. While turn 10 has been decimated, 3rd party studios are often used for ports so it shouldnt be an issue in that regard.
I just have a feeling Microsoft is chasing blockbuster hits and is cutting everything else that wont meet these unrealistic expectations. Motorsport will never put up Horizon numbers so if thats the benchmark, then unfortunately this series has no future.
I certainly hope so, it’d be a real kick in the teeth if they didnt for people who have been a fan of this series for 2 decades. Phil Spencer likes to talk about game preservation. That has been the way so far but times are changing when it comes to games now all being called services and can just be shut down at any point.
rFactor 2 & Assetto Corsa are still available for retail purchase on Steam (not delisted) even though they’re more than 10 years old.
I wonder how they have such long-term licenses.
Oh yes dint get me wrong, I’d be amazed if we see any more substantial updates for the game, I’ve said this for a while, I thought the FK content would be the last one before it dropped.
Do think we’ll see removed content added back on a drip but I really think game pass needs a racing game so can’t see it being delisted any time soon.
Either way it’s not enough for me, I’ve had some fun with the game, wish it was better but it’s time to move on now for me.
I own and play both too… Compared to Forza Motorsport’23 in its excellent current state i.e. update 21, Gran Turismo 7 version 1.61 gameplay (feel of the road, excitement of racing, pleasure of collecting cool cars, etc.) ends up FAR behind! Apart from graphics which are somewhat equally impressive in both games, Forza has truly become SO MUCH BETTER in almost every aspect. To be honest, even the lean UI and especially the title screen / main menu of Forza Motorsport is a sight of beauty as opposed to the tacky mishmash found all around in GT7!
Think the problem with Forza would the number of cars and manufactures and associated cost would be an order of magnitude more: I really think it would depend on the active player count which from what I’ve seen is the lowest I’ve seen on any Forza game, by an absolutely insane distance. Despite what some delusional posters have to say about it.
Corporate misfires?!! They are amazing games. Especially FH4. A welcome fun diversion from serious racing and universally loved. I can understand the lack of trust. CEOs, company boards, politicians. They all share the same cold blood😊
They’re technically competent. But Horizon 4 had severe problems with missed opportunities - not having London in this game, even and perhaps especially as an expansion, was a big mistake - and Horizon 5, particularly in it’s first year, would still be my go-to example for a game developed and driven entirely by the marketing department had Call of Duty not turned it up to 11 in the last two years.
I didn’t even think of London to be honest. And I’m a Brit. Edinburgh is probably the nicest city in the UK and located relatively near the Scottish mountains so it was a good choice. None of the other Horizons had respective capital cities so why would FH4? The 4 seasons was the main standout for FH4 and groundbreaking at the time. The DLC component of FH is expensive unless you wait for it to get cheaper obviously. But It doesn’t detract from the fact that FH5 is still an astonishing game. I’m not so keen on Lego and Hot Wheels but the other expansions are great.
Nope, not a chance this ever happens. I would be very surprised if it did.
I’m not a big horizon fan but I thought 4 was a very, very good game.
