The death of drifting...?

Have the ranked drift competitions been left out of Forza Horizon 5?

The ranking system in FH4 was good and the drift comps were the main reason I kept playing it.

Is the open drift competition really all we have now?

An event where the only classes are A or S1, RWD or AWD is irrelevant, track times are so short you often fail to complete a second lap and the wait time between tracks is usually longer than the whole competition…?

I can’t see anybody with an interest in competitive drifting playing the open event for long, if at all.

Drifters would represent a substantial part of the forza community so i fail to see the logic here. Does anybody know why they’ve done this?

I’d be interested to hear what others think…

There’s no ranking anymore, whatsoever. FFA, TA, Team PGG, Drift, all gone.

We need at least RWD filtering because I won’t “drift” anywhere with AWD.

Why? Is it too difficult?

Get Mustang S5 and download KenBlocksSohn’s Godlike Drifting tune.
TRY to drive that in straight line.

Agreed. I only drift with AWD and my own tunes. I think it’s great.

Anyone who has drifted in Forza for more than a few weeks knows that the scoring you can get with AWD is way different than RWD. I still go in and try to challenge them with my RWD, but it’s blatantly clear that it’s easier to get higher scores with AWD. People wanting separate lobbies or not wanting to drift RWD vs AWD have valid complaints. I’ve drifted in Forza since FM3 and it’s always been this way regarding easier scoring for AWD. A lot of folks say AWD isn’t even drifting, I am not one of those. I say use whatever car you want with whatever upgrades. But since there is an advantage to AWD drifters, can you at least agree it would be nice for the ability to have separate lobbies?

Doesn’t make any sense? Drifting is drifting. Which FD competition use AWD cars?

He’s just being confrontational and does not understand how the scoring works in the game. Everyone who has drifted for awhile in these games knows AWD scores different, and it’s easier to make points. Like I said above I still go into the online lobbies and have a ton of fun, place top 3 often, but I definitely would love to see separate lobbies for AWD and RWD.

I have been doing a TON of online drifting. I am thinking (hoping) they will add more tracks and fix a few things. It’s definitely a bit annoying in A class on that one track because you can’t get a 2nd lap in. I wish they would have separate lobbies for RWD and AWD, but it is what it is… I’ve been in the top 3 many times and 1st quite a few times even with AWD drifters in the lobby in my Mustang S5 for S class and 1969 Camaro for A class.

On a sidenote - SUPER happy with the drift zones, Cara Este is awesome, and having quite a few that you can score 200-400k on is awesome.

Just remember, it’s early, updates will be coming.

I come in expecting somebody complaining about convoy lag or left foot braking being somewhat broken and drifting being dead cause of it and it turns out “ples giv ranked”.
Seriously, ranked drift adventure has as much to do with drifting as trailblazer gates. Drift is alive and well, and tandem trains are fun on the mountain.

If this happens, good riddance. Forza isn’t made for drifting and I don’t know why they keep pushing it.

Tell me you cant drift without telling me you cant drift lol
Drifting is a huge part of the game probably the most popular

I’ve been playing since Forza Motorsport 2. Drifting wasn’t part of the game until some guy posted a YouTube video of himself doing it when he figured out how. Since then, they made it part of the game without ever doing anything to make it accessible to everyone. I can drift in every other racing franchise in existence that features it, from Need For Speed to Project Gotham Racing. I don’t know why Forza can’t do what every other franchise does to make drifting doable by everyone.

Damn I mean, I started drifting in Forza Motorsport 4… back then drifting was very difficult, especially because you didn’t have any drift angle kits and stuff. But anyone who tells me that driftin in Horizon 5 is difficult cannot be serious… i actually find it harder to win a race in s2 or x class then get a good drift. Drifting a huge part of motorsport that’s a fact. And I love that they do alot for drifting in Forza.

And for need for speed driving physics… yeah I leave that there😅

I feel the complete opposite, I think all the Forza’s motorsports and Horizon are perfect for drifting. It’s not hard, watch some youtube videos and practice. FH5 is by far one of the easiest games to drift in that I ever played - I’ve played almost all of the Forza’s, Gran Turismos and NFS games. FH5 adding drift tires, differential, suspension - you barely even have to tune the car. Add the drift upgrades and power, turn off traction and stability and it’s actually hard NOT to drift. Most cars all I have to touch is the gearing, usually just put it more towards acceleration and tweak 4th and 5th gear to my liking.

I’ve tried everything suggested on the internet for years. Keeping it 2nd or 3rd gear, turning off different things in the settings, downloading other peoples’ tunes, etc. Nothing works. I can 2 star drift zones, but can’t get anywhere close to 3 stars in them no matter what I do. The zones are way too narrow and short to accumulate that many points to get 3 star ratings. All the achievements I don’t have in FH4 are all due to having ridiculous drifting requirements. I can easily drift D and C class, but it just doesn’t accumulate enough points. Once you get to S2 class which is required for 3 starring, there just isn’t enough room to maneuver to go as fast as you need to without spinning out or leaving the road. They are way too fast and twitchy for me to control. I’ve never had any of these issues with any other franchise, since the others all leave you with wide enough and long enough tracks to reach the needed points and the controls aren’t as finicky.

What did work right for me in FH4 was the drifting in the stories, because the roads were always long enough to get the points you needed, but I can’t accumulate that many points on the short and narrow drift zones.

Are you willing to get help, one on one, by someone in the community?

The reason why I love FH4 and now 5 is that the community is so supportive and positive. I respect that everyone here wants a little something different out of forza; from the stud supercar racer, to the off-road rock climber, to the traditional rwd-only drift enthusiast. Even within those groups you have nested groups with preferences. That said, if you’re an achievement-based gamer; this might not just be a good game for the learn, achieve and leave approach. I could be wrong… It’s only an opinion… but here’s the thing …

Do you want to get better?

I’m sure someone here would be totally willing to spend time with you working on everything you mentioned. So what’ll it be? Get help or get upset?

It can’t be easier. Horizon has very easy drifting. It’s the same as GT. On a gamepad. Do you like AC? Drifting there is still easy but a bit harder.

I like to drift both AWD and RWD but they need to be in separate categories due to the score difference. RWD simply can’t compete with AWD.

The drift zones are great fun at the moment because the games new but the interest will fade pretty fast, thats why I think the ranked events are important. It offers an incentive to continue competing and improving. Its what kept me coming back to FH4.

I’d be interested to know why they removed it. It’s affected the games appeal for me which is a shame.

The toxicity :pensive:

My goodness. Different strokes for different folks and leave it there.
