The curious case of the Audi TT-RS NLS racecar

Let’s talk about this oddity of racecars in the current Forza Motorsport, the #17 Rotek Racing Audi TT-RS.

First of all, what even is this thing? Personally, i don’t fully know this car myself despite watching motorsports a lot so i can’t say much about the car itself. However, during some research i did at the time i found out this car is build to the SP.4T regulation set used in the endurance series run exclusively at the Nürburgring, including it’s famed 24h race! Hence the car officially bares the name Audi TT-RS SP4.T and supposedly Audi themselves developed the car (again, saying this with an * as i can’t fully guarentee this is all 100% accurate). SP4.T is a class ment, in general, for racecars that use engines no greater than 2,6L and come with some kind of turbocharging. The car is also front wheel drive wich makes it unique for it’s kind.

Next, a quick history of it’s existence in the Forzaverse of the current game because it’s also very important for this topic…
Originally it was part of the unified Forza GT class that was carried over from FM7 to the current game. However, if you wanted to main the car… You couldn’t. Like with the GT2 KTM, this car was not useable in multiplayer until later update. Then, once Forza GT was split up the car, next to the Trans-ams, V8 supercars, GT4s etc, essentially became useless until it was included in the GT4 class in-game wich was and still is controversial and still talked about in respective posts.

So why even bring this up? Why is this so important (to me)?

After seeing Kalos bring up that the TT-RS was supposedly the “zero” car for balancing in GT4, and combining that with the knowledge that this thing is very far from a GT4 car, i was thinking of what to do with what is then essentially a “useless” car, and i’m curious to hear what you guys would if you could decide!

Here’s what i would do :
•With the knowledge that the SP4.T Audi TT-RS is in no-man’s land in terms of car divisions, i have an interesting idea. At it’s core, this is essentially a touring car with a six-pack of muscles and i think that’s where a solution can lie. We know the developers are able to move cars across divisions and create new ones so why not put this thing into the Forza Touring cars division and use the % based bop to get it on the level of the TCRs and BTCC cars. This definatly would require HEAVY nerfing but i think it can be done and would benefit everyone. TC gets a new car, the car itself becames usefull again and GT4 can be properly balanced finally!

I know my idea might be frowned upon but i think it’s worth a shot! Again, share what you’d do in this scenario if you have an idea!

I mentioned this a while back, it’s essentially a pointless car that, like you say, might as well be nerfed & added to the Forza Touring Car roster. I used it for a one make series on FM7 yrs back, never used it since which is a shame because it was a great car to race in. Like the older FK2 Civic Touring from FM7 car which is no more, wasted assets that could be shoehorned into a current popular multiplayer group for more choice.

They could also just add a bunch of GT4 cars, so it’s an actually division and new two cars and a half.

They could, just thought while it’s pointless on it’s own make use of it for something that is popular at the moment, especially in multiplayer. Not like it will happen anyway but it’d be the easier option of the 2 while they slowly improve the game elsewhere.

Part of the problem is most of the active GT4 cars in the car voting were under the heading of a generic GT label. So when GTE/GT3 versions were implemented into the game, the car was removed from voting. Think the Mercedes-AMG GT and the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. In order to get GT4 versions, they would need GT4 duplicates of m,any of the GTE/GT3 cars and those are not on the car voting lists. That is not to say they are against duplicate versions and there are some GT4 race cars in the car voting, even the Audi R8 LMS still despite having the GT3 car in the game already. Yet even the poll on the Audi is leans towards the EVO II, a second version of the GT3, instead of the GT4.

If they really want a robust GT4 class, they need to reomove the Audi, introduce a bunch of GT4 cars without relying on the car voting, and do a full rebalance to more respresent actual GT4 cars. The Porsche Caymen, Supra, McClaren make sense as non duplicates, but GT4 versions of the Audi, Merc, Mustang, Aston, Audi would be welcome as well. But given the trickle in of GT cars, I don’t see this happening. If FM had a larger base of players, I’d see it making more business sense. In that case they could do a race pack that included GT4s while releasing free versions. In the current condition though, I don’t see it making financial sense to them and anything like that happening.

Related suggestion:

I don’t see it in the GT4 or Touring Car category.
But I do see it as a Spec Series, as a more powerful and faster version of the extinct Audi TT Cup.
And the same for:

2017 Ferrari #25 Corse Clienti 488 Challenge
2010 Ferrari 599XX
2015 Lamborghini #63 Squadra Corse Huracán LP620-2 Super Trofeo
2021 Porsche Mission R

Given that this game at least one single-car Division (Porsche Mission R Spec) there’s no reason for the dumping ground known as “Forza Specials” to exist, especially when none of the “meme cars” from the previous game are here. The Mazda should be in its own, as should the older Holden Commodore that was given out in December (Turn 10 have already said they won’t put it in Forza AUS).

I still can’t wrap my head around this one. The XBOX Commodore is the same series as the Walksinshaw that is in the Forza AUS category (both are VFs under the same rules/regs, despite being different years), and even if the stock performance was slightly different it can surely be BOPd to be the same as the Falcon and Altima (the Altima is an oddity itself as T10 decided not to give it a number/livery despite it still being raced up until the 2019 season, a year longer than the VF and FG-X)

Their logic is that since it’s an older generation car (probably with different aero values and such) that it can’t be reliably balanced with the existing AUS cars.

Those cars are basically stock in terms of upgrades and adding the older car might force them into more awkward BoP I guess.

It’s not an older generation car though, that’s the weird thing - the 2013 XBOX and 2017 Walkinshaw are the first and last years respectively of the New Gen/CotF generation (technically Gen2 was introduced in 2017 but none of the teams adopted it until 2018). It should fundamentally perform the same.
