Surround system sounds better after toggling Screen Narrator

Info on my setup > Anthem 1140 powering a full set of Klipsch Reference Premiere speakers. Room is tuned to be as neutral as a mixing and mastering room. Receiver is Anthem ARC Genesis tuned. Console is connected directly to receiver. I’m running the Xbox in Dolby Atmos mode.

Just what the title says. Discovered because I just couldn’t deal with the weirdness in the mid range and dynamic range. These accessibility features are cool 'n all, but don’t let them break default behaviors for the rest of us.

I would like to point out that FH5 has a similar issue. Turning the narrator off sounds worse than setting it to system default or just turning the thing on.

edit: This evening I found that I had to toggle it off and on again to fix the audio. This is a workaround, not a fix and REALLY annoying.

edit 2: After further testing it seems that simply toggling this feature alters the surround sound. Changing cars will reset it, so in order to get better depth and dynamic range, I have to toggle it with every car change.

edit 3: Under further testing, I have found that in order to recreate this each and every time you’ll have to toggle the feature to on and back to off. It doesn’t always work if you toggle it off only. So like this >> Load the car > pause and go to settings > accessibility > turn screen narrator off > save > turn it back on > save. Go back to the game and you’ll hear a less squashed sound.

I use DTSX and it sounds great. Atmos known to have terrible lag on Xbox right now. DTSX has a tiny amount of lag, but it is a lot less noticeable. This was confirmed with hi-fi rush a while ago and none of the Atmos updates have fixed it yet.

I don’t like DTSX. Doesn’t sound as natural imho. Also not detecting any lag on my system. :man_shrugging:

This affects DTSX too. I should update the title.
