Just an update: this issue is persisting through the latest Steam Deck software updates (including the Stable releases and Beta releases) as of 10/19/2023.
UPDATE: The new Proton Experimental that came out today fixes Forza Horizon 5 but Motorsport still doesn’t work.
Weird. FH5 has always worked for me on my Deck out of the box. Lol. Whereas either the Proton dev is still more than likely troubleshooting, or the new FM still has trouble running the game service and authenticating it. As mentioned prior. Games don’t have to be “supported” to run. Every reply you’ve made is hardly tangible and quite off-topic, in some display of offensive-defense.
Unfortunately. But some good news is it no longer crashes on splash in a few seconds. I believe we’re getting close.
I’m not sure if you need to get “through” other people or yourself. Woefully underpowered in what sense? Pure numbers and specs? I’m certain you’ve said the same for FH5, adding you have made a false claim saying it doesn’t even launch. Yet it does, and still. If you look at the requirements compared to the deck without prior knowledge, what would you project? What are you playing on yourself? An Xbox? Do you even own a Steam Deck? Any games you’ve “played” on it besides “FH5?” Lol. I didn’t realize we were gaming at 2k or even 1080p on the deck. If you’re not getting through to us, maybe find another post, we’re not your target audience. Clearly we’re incapable of understanding the technical knowledge you possess.
Just because my gaming PC gets 60 fps and not 144 fps (sorry I’m poor) makes it “woefully underpowered?”
Even assuming this meritless argument had an ounce of truth, what about Deck 2, 3, 4, 5… and every other Deck that comes out? You believe PC games should just be unlaunched until hardware will run them at 144 hz.
UPDATE: Steam’s lead developer just advised that this bug will need to be fixed by Turn 10 Studios, if anyone.
However, he also provided the solution: drop a dependency on an external Xbox Windows service for Steam Deck users.
This would be a good time to request refunds from the Steam store (until it gets fixed).
i have a laptop with vega 8 mobile graphics gtx1660ti. released before the steam deck. i dont understand how motorsport cannot be played on a steam deck? ive tested the game with steam/steam link for my mobile phone and game works GREAT. maybe try using the steam deck as an windows 11 OS? could be the operating system of the steam deck causing the game to hang on the splash screen.
sorry did not read above posts, and yes im aware im just simply “streaming over the network with steamlink” im interested to know if yall get this fixed tho (:
30 fps would be hella good. Right now we sit at 0 fps.
In all seriousness, nobody has identified any useful purpose that those proprietary Windows component dependencies provide. Rather, it appears the using the same Xbox Game Services dependencies as Forza Horizon 5 and Forza Horizon 4 would solve the issue, as those latter two titles are already playable on Steam Deck.
I’d wager once the developers are aware of this, it would be an easy fix.
And yet every single available prior title worked fine on Steam Deck?
Regardless, assuming for the sake of argument that DRM is indeed the issue, this can be implemented in ways that don’t break it for a good chunk of its existing player base (for example, look at how Forza Horizon 5 does it).
I have to hand it to you, your passion in trying to prevent this bug from being fixed is downright impressive. And yet you don’t even own a Steam Deck
You just made my day
Even assuming for the sake of argument that it’s not a bug, this channel isn’t just for bugs, it’s for “new issues.” Read the title, bud.
Moving this topic to the Suggestions Hub as Forza Motorsport is not supported on Steam Deck.
Just a heads up, but your screenshot is Valve’s internal assessment (and Valve marked it as unsupported because the game won’t run on Steam Deck due to this flagged issue). @T10ManteoMax
Valve indicated that the fix would have to come from Forza’s developers themselves (see screenshot further above). And keep in mind that a fix might start to curb the horrible reviews this title is getting on Steam (62% negative reviews).
Knowing the compatibility system isn’t automatically updated, it has to be the devs who got to ask for a recheck, also, it only rates the compatibility using official protons, meaning a game can work with GE and still be marked as incompatible, I have plenty of games like that ( gears 5, MK11, vampire the masquerade bloodlines, dragon ball z kakarot to name only a few ) and yet I play all of them on my deck / Linux pc ( I don’t do windows ). So you can’t just hide behind a “it’s written unsupported”.
If I may make a suggestion about the way this issue is handled right now ( like now it’s a suggestion topic and not anymore a “how can we make it work” thing, which is a bit of a shame imo ), some companies, which I won’t name, made the mistake to ignore a growing chunk of the market ( Linux, steam, etc. ) and when they came back crawling it was a bit too late because gamers ( read it as paying customers you know ) remember and are resentful. Don’t make this mistake. A pc gamer is a pc gamer no matter their OS, you shouldn’t ignore potential buyers as a company, especially when they’re becoming more and more.
Just my two cents, which have usually a better rating than that.
With this in mind, @T10ManteoMax, we respectfully request a separate moderator to review this issue and determine if it should be moved back to the “FM Report New Issues” category.
I am also clueless why this issue report was moved to “Xbox & Peripherals” because it contains an issue regarding neither. Rather, it contains a bug report for the Motorsport’s failure to launch on a specific handheld PC through Steam.
The Troubleshooting Hub is for reporting issues where a supported device or game feature isn’t working as intended, while the Suggestions Hub is for requests to change an existing feature or add a new feature. Adding a Steam Deck support for FM would be a new feature because it’s not currently supported.
