Stop Auction Scams - NOW!

I can’t believe you leave this in game after THREE WEEKS!

Either add a plainly visible information on unlocked perks or clear perks altogether for a buyer! There are thousands of players every damn day who fall into the trap!
If lucky, they won with a low bid and can scam the next poor bar steward.

If not so lucky they do a buyout for a pile of scrap.

How can such [Mod Edit - Abbreviated profanity, profanity and profanity that is disguised but still alludes to the words are not permitted - D] pass quality control UNLESS IT’S WANTED?!

Scam? Really? I don’t know why you are complaining, if it has to do with the fact of you buying cars with max perks, you could just buy a new one from the auto show. Also this scam you speak of, thousands of people? Where is your evidence of thousands of people falling victim to this “scam”?

The ability to sell cars with activated perks was advertised prior the game’s release in one of the #ForzaMonthly’s shows. It’s a feature of the game. The fact the AH lets players get away with such practices hurts the community as a whole.

I can’t help but feel Playground loves to include in Horizon every single bad feature of badly-designed MMORPGs. It’s bad enough to deal with scammers in those games, now it’s spread to Forza. There are enough scammers IRL that we shouldn’t be required to deal with this nonsense in a game that’s supposed to entertain us.

I could try to do things fairly and sell “proper” cars with locked perks, but what incentive is there to it when I know some random power player will buy it, activate the perks themself and flip it for a higher price, fooling a third-party? That’s pretty bad.

Just look at Maserati 300S… it sells about twice a minute. And it keeps selling, it’s a bloody resale festival. If any of the guys knew they won’t see the Maserati 12C FE with the buy, they wouldn’t buy it in the first place - unless they try to scam others…

This is even worse than the multiplayer glitch.

All I can say is “It happens”. Honestly this is one of the realest experiences in the game. You don’t know exactly what you’re buying in a real auction as well. You don’t know the full history of any car, people can “forget” to tell things, or purposely cover other things. There is a way to generally tell if a car is used up though. Normally there is one person selling multiple copies of the vehicle. The ride height might be different, the color might not be the factory color. You just have to be astute or save up the cash and buy one fresh from the autoshow. That’s the risk/allure of auction, high risk high reward. Sometimes you win big and get things for a steal, other times you might lose out on your investment…just like real life.

Just like buying second hand, it can be a steal or a lemon.

^ Good one! lol

Jolly good, all clap your hands for Mr. Witful.

So, basically all you have to say it’s ok to rip off the “unenlightened”, brings some RL charm to the game and adds to “longevity” of the game.

Nobody is ripping anyone off, you are the one taking the risk of the perks being used. It has been stated before that the perks do not reset when a car is bought on the AH.

It works the same way in the real world too, when buying a used item.

In a scam, yes.

It’s been stated in the forum, not the game. The majority of players doesn’t even use the forum or is aware of the hidden rules. It’s obvious the company has little interest in improving the player experience unless they see profit in danger - the mp glitch saw a rather quick solution.

So to all who are interested in a scam:
Buy Maserati 300S for 600k, sell em with 1,000,000 starting bid (not much higher, somebody still has to take the bait). Repeat till the snowball has gone to the valley.

OP, it appears you are fighting a one-man battle here.

Cars sold on the auction house are sold as is, as they always have been.

You can see whatever paint/design is on the car via the thumbnail.

You cannot see whether or not it actually has a tune.
You cannot see what if any upgrades might come with the car.
And now, you cannot see what if any perks may have been used or unused.

Caveat emptor

You buyout or win the car as is, what you do with it then is your business.

True.

Also true.

Not actually true, because if a car was tuned in any way, the auction shows the name of the tuner, otherwise it says “stock”. You can also check the car class against that of a base level car in the autoshow. If a base level car is class A, and the one being auctioned is class S2, then it obviously has a tune on it.

Partially true. You can see visible upgrades such as wheels and body kits. Suspension upgrades can be implied by ride height. Any change in car class when compared to stock is a good indicator of what upgrades might have been installed.

Also true, and this is a problem, at least in one area…single use perks. I know that skill perks transfer with the car, but the single use perks such as wheelspins and free cars (such as the Reventon FE that you can get as a car mastery perk from the Miura) do not, and there is literally NO WAY to know in advance if these single use perks have been taken before you buy the car at auction.

The problem with this is that it is impossible to determine which perks (if any) have already been used. “Buyer beware” is a bit of a simplification of the actual principle. As a personal example, I discovered that if you buy a Lamborghini Miura, you can get the Reventon FE in the car mastery perks. So, of course, since the Miura sells for 1 mil in the autoshow, and around 100-200k in auction, it was a no-brainer to buy an auction car. Now, imagine my surprise when I spend an HOUR trying to buy a Miura (yes, it took that long because everyone else in the Forza world was also trying to get one at the time), and when I finally won an auction, I see that the Reventon FE perk was already used. So what do I do? Resell the car and bid on another one…and another one, and another and another…until I finally won another Miura auction. Guess what I found when I got the car? Reventon FE perk was gone again, and I am stuck with a Miura that I can’t even sell for what I paid for it since people are starting to discover this problem with one time use perks.

If I had some way to know in advance that the Reventon FE perk was gone for good, I would never have bothered with all of that time on the auction house. Now, I won’t go so far as to say this is some sort of scam, but it would be nice if single use perks reset when a car is auctioned off.

I can build a car up to the top of any level and then change the tyre pressure by half a pound and now the car is listed as being tuned by me. Good tuners can make a good guess at the build based on experience but there’s no way to know that all I’ve changed is the tyre pressure. You can’t see from the auction house exactly what upgrades I’ve added and what I’ve done to tune the car. That’s what I meant.

If you must dabble in the auction house, the safest way to do so is to make absolutely no assumptions about what it is you cannot see for yourself in the thumbnail.

Very true, but again, if you make any changes to the car’s tune whatsoever, the listing still shows your name under “tuner”, instead of saying stock, and if the car class hasn’t changed, one can assume that any tuning done was minor. In any case, that is also why i said “partially true”, because most visual changes can be seen in the thumbnail, and other tunes can often be implied.

I know for me, I hardly ever even look at tunes or car class when buying on the AH. I’ve been buying auction cars ever since FM4, so I always plan to spend at least 100k just in upgrades regardless of if the car is new or auctioned, which always resets any tunes done to it anyway. So, not knowing exactly what (if anything) has been done to an auction car has never been a concern. However, the addition of single use perks (especially highly desirable ones like FE cars) changes things a bit for me. Now that I know about the problem, I will never try to buy an auction car for the purpose of getting an FE car via the perk tree.

Lol it seems op try to get miura, r390 or 300s or that m-b underpriced so could get nice fe car cheeply and then cry here when somebody is allready use those perks. If you want those fe cars just buy that orginal car in auction house and you can be sure there is not any perks used.
