Stig's Digital Cousin Challenge - Now Open!

Read between the lines; the only complaint I posted is that big events shouldn’t be locked by paid DLC. Both CBH-events only gotten “around” 20,000 participants each; a drop in the ocean of total FM5-sales. Less participants → less competition → less fun!

By the way: the retail prices of games and consoles/devices stayed same or even gone down in last decades; nuff articles on this elsewhere.

Not sure where you live. Look at retail game pricing in just the past decade. Up $10. Let alone Xbox-360-1 pricing.

I can see I’m leaving time all over the track but shaving off another 4-5 seconds? Don’t think I can get this car to stick to the track that well. Some impressive work at the top of that board.

Ive already knocked 3 seconds off my original time, currently sat .001s behind SatNiteEduardo. Not sure how much more I’ve got in me as I’ve already surpassed what I thought I would manage.

I should be able to give you a new target. That is if I can keep it together for a whole lap lol

I just thought I would give some tips that may help some people.

  1. Use the full width of the track. Some friends have said to me that their current lap is as quick as they can go. I then watch their replay and they are driving up the middle of the road. If you have a single right hand turn then just prior to entry you should be far left not in the middle of the road. You may even think you are far left but watch your replay in chase car view to see how much road there is there.

  2. The only exception to 1 is if you have multiple turns after one another you need to plan ahead. Work out how you want to enter the final turn in the group and work back from there. Plan your lap.

  3. Use the correct gears. Watch one of the quick replays in cockpit view for the gears. Don’t be shy changing down a lot in this event - that is where I was going wrong earlier ie I was trying to stay in a gear too high.

  4. As with all cars using racing slicks this car can handle a lot of speed through turns - brake less and see if you can take turns quicker than you previously have. I am not talking about struggling to take turns or getting out of shape but the turns can be taken smooth but still carrying a fair bit of speed.

That’s some good advice! I’ve started carrying more speed through the turns. I was following your ghost, (nowhere near it of course) and really started to lose you from the Esses. Are you pretty much flat across the mountain? Still, shaved off a good four seconds following you around.

I am not flat out across the mountain but I am only using throttle control for most of it and not brakes. There are a few spots where I very lightly tap the brakes and there is the tight chicane late where I brake but most of the rest is just throttle control.

Stig’s Digital Cousin has shaved a bit more time off - 2:08.142

Was finally able to get up enough strength to post a decent time of 2:08.0xx. Just ahead of digital stiggy. Here’s hoping they don’t get too much faster. I have pneumonia for the 3rd time in my 19yr life. Can’t muster up much more strength.

I haven’t gotten a lap I’m happy with clean yet, I see a 2.05.xxx being #1 though.

You’re just too quick for me to even fathom. Honestly dont see how you do it.

2:08 on Bathurst in an S-Class car? Pfftt… Well im glad T10 is making this challenge too difficult for 90% of the people who play their game. I’ve been told i’m above average by many people. I race with no assists, manual w/clutch, with the braking line only and I am barely hitting 2:14. Add in the fact that you cannot tune the car to fit your driving style, I don’t know if I’ll be able to beat this one. The Mechberg challenge was the same way.

T10 needs to offer something for the people who play their game who also have a family, a full time job, and can’t sit in front of their Xbox One for hours on end playing this game!

this comment is not really valid here beef. im pretty sure they have families and jobs too they just have a better skill set than most. i got off work yesterday ran 8 laps nabbed a 2:09.7. roughly 20 mins of my time between fixing dinner, dealing with gf and going to sleep, you have to break bad driving habits to get better times. take a look at SatNiteEduardo’s little tips he posted that is a great way to figure out where and when you need to shift and break. the only hard part it getting yourself to do it smoothly.

I am not at all attempting to claim that I do not have room for improvement. I do. And I am constantly joining parties with better players, watching how they drive, and listening to their advice. My failure to complete the challenge isn’t the issue.

The issue is the percent of people that will be able to complete the challenge. The game tells you what percent, and what # you are on the world leader boards.

If MS has sold 3 Million consoles, FM5 has sold 1 million copies, (proof here) and the leaderboards show that what, under 5k to 10k are beating or matching these fast lap times, or even less? Thats roughly 1/2 to 1 percent of the community being able to complete these challenges. And thats rounding up the numbers so math is easy.

Well, to avoid the inevitable round of comments about self-esteem trophies, I thought I would offer an idea that, if I were to help design the next installment of Forza, I would incorporate (you know how to reach me, Turn 10):

Basically, you would have different levels of circuits. For instance, you would have the World Circuit at the top. That is where the Chronics and Zermatts would go. Below that, a National Circuit. Then, maybe a regional, local, etc… The idea would be to primarily compete against folks at your skill level. If you improve your lap times enough, you can be promoted to a higher circuit. This would also allow contests that could occur within each circuit. Really, it is kind of silly that somebody like me would compete against Raceboy for a prize. Expecting enthusiastic noobs to compete with top racers and game developers (who, also happen to be top racers) tends to induce more frustration than improvement, in my opinion.

There are some other pieces to this that help fill the idea out. But, for those, Turn 10 is just going to have to call me and send me bags of cash.

I have a family (no kids by choice…I like money), a career, and I can hit 2:09.4xx.

I’ll admit, this one is a rough challenge. 2:08 is pretty tough to beat.

But it can be done.

I had a blast in the Mechberg CBH and was choked when he beat my time by .200 on the last day and I didn’t have time to improve. I don’t have the DLC and don’t plan on getting it just for the CBH. while I would have liked to participate I don’t feel I’m out anything by this only being limited to the people who paid more for the game than I did. I chose not to buy the extra packs and therefore didn’t get extra content. I still have rivals to post times in

I just gave it a try, and the Cuz is pretty fast! I’m half a second slower…but I will get him! I really like the car, the problem is that I’m not consistent, one lap is good and the other one I’ll end up touching a wall. I also like Bathurst but it is track that likes to punish the driver, this rival event requires a lot of patience.

The way I read the rules:
Grand prize to fastest time
9 prizes for the next 9 fastest
250,000 to all other entrants.

Do they even say you have to be ahead of Stig? To me, it reads that you must complete 1 lap and submit your time.
