Square Peg/Round Hole

Can someone explain this to me… I see it all the time and it drives me nuts. I was in a D class lobby with a guy tonight. He lost the first race, so he decides to fix it by driving something faster. Well, that doesn’t work and he loses by a bigger margin in the second race. So he goes for even more speed in the third race, fourth, fifth, etc. It gets so ridiculous that he’s trying to drive a Lemans build on Laguna and he’s actually complaining because he can’t win.

This is a very common thing in the lobbies. Why can’t people figure out that they are getting their doors blown off because racing is about so much more than just going fast in a straight line? There’s a guy that is a regular and he always drives a fast RWD car with no handling. Yet, he whines like a little school girl when I pass him through a turn in my Mini while he’s sliding all over the place. He constantly complains, but he refuses to drive anything that actually handles.

Handling is a huge part of the equation, especially in D class. Is this really that tough to figure out?

Everyone’s learning curve is different.

The quick drivers often have more power in the build than the norm. The combo of good tuning and their driving skill makes it work.

Problem is if you don’t have the tuning and driving skill the car is a heavy, overpowered beast.

Yup, very common. Actually, surprisingly common.

I raced in the ABC’S lobby tonight. I was in a C class Transit Van (Road America Full) and I got trolled HARD (my van flipped 5 times and hit a wall after getting rammed at a corner). I still won the C class group. Other two were driving a LB Mercedes 190 Evo. and an “Overpowered beast” in the RR Wraith. Neither could stay on the road.

Next race, I was in my C class Mazda RX3 (stock motor. Road Atlanta Full) and still came in third OVERALL with a full lobby of C to S class cars. I couldn’t believe it. Of course, this caused one guy to swear at me in German (I know a little. I guess I’m fortunate to only know a little. lol). Also, a buddy of his in an S class Golf tried to put me into the next world (never mind the wall) at the final S turn during the final lap. I would assume that was out of jealousy or thinking that I was a cheater (in German of course, lol).

As some others have said, there’s not a lot of fast/skilled drivers racing online anymore.

But surely if my speed stat is higher than your speed stat, I should win, right?

The Rolls Royce can be very competitive in c class. My tune is no aero and has done well on handling tracks. The only thing is I need to brake early.

Oh, of course…but you actually have skill…lol. Unlike the guys that were using it as an unintentional (or maybe intentional???) battering ram.

You aren’t kidding about braking early in the Wraith. If you are turning on Wednesday, brake on Tuesday.

This is true and 90% of the time the person behind you isn’t paying attention to what you’re driving knowing that you’ll need more time to brake and rams the back of your car.

Hey lou I’ve raced with you so I know this is maybe a dumb ? But did you try to teach him what he was doing wrong or just enjoy beating him badly. Lol

I really do try to help others as often as I can. There are several here that can attest to that. Last night, I didn’t offer though and I feel a little bad about it. I had at least a dozen Goose and Cokes with some friends last night and did some inebriated racing. I have to confess to just enjoying beating him badly. Watching him trying to drive a Trans Am with 3.6 handling around Laguna was just too much fun to pass up given my state of mind at the time. I’ll help three people out today as my penance. Now where did I put that darn bottle of aspirin…

I need them to work on head track in forza 5 because it tracks your body not your head at all I like it better in forza 4 on Xbox 360 you able to adjust the settings in it I hope they work on this one in forza 5 because I like use it

Nothing wrong with beating the snot out of someone and watching them struggle once and awhile. Usually it’s me getting my rear handed to me.

You’re way better than you give yourself credit for. You’re only problem is you’re always trying to beat Axra1x and that’s a tall order.

On most tracks there is a lot of time between you two and me. Definitely getting better but a long way to go. Was racing a few very fast guys today , they were screwing around and running 3 to 4 seconds faster. When you think your getting faster someone comes along and punts me back reality. Lol

Nah, I’m not even close to his level. Sure, I could probably beat him on most D class tracks, but he’s way better than me at everything else. You’re a lot closer to me than you think. I tend to nail the occasional fast lap and my leaderboard times make me look better than I am. Most of the time, I’m so inconsistent that I’m a very ordinary player. I’ve been in lots of lobbies with you where you were very fast. Just not on Yas Marina

I often have THIS problem, particularily in D-class:

I’ll be in 2nd or 3rd when along comes someone in a faster car (typically a Mini or CRX). As if simply being faster wasn’t enough, they also can’t be bothered to pass me clean, and will either:

A: bounce off my bumper instead of braking, spinning me, or

B: cut inside (no warning) and bounce off my door, pushing me wide.

Now, I don’t always have the fastest car in the lobby, but I usually do okay. I DO know what I’m doing on the track and run fairly consistent lines and times. If you’re legitimately faster than me, it should be child’s play to anticipate my movements and get a clean pass. Just wish more folks would make that effort. Even just a quick “Yo, B Wald, inside!” over the mic would be nice.

Etiquette + No skill = slow. However, Skill + No etiquette = a jerk who would be banned from real racing. Which would YOU rather be?

-B Wald

P.S. I salute those of you who have both, you know who you are!

I’ve raced against you B Wald. You’re a fair amount different than most in D class. Unless I have you confused with someone else, you like your muscle cars, but you keep them under control. I don’t know, but one of the most annoying things for me is when someone is driving a car that slides through every corner. They take up the entire corner and passing them becomes almost impossible. I was racing against a guy driving an F-100 on the test track once. He was faster than me in the straights, but was horrendous on every corner. I did everything I could to get around him, but he slid into me every time I tried to pass. It took 4 laps for me to pass him and then leave him behind for good. It works both ways. There are those that drive the Minis, Mugens, Celicas, etc. without etiquette. However, there are easily as many, if not a lot more, who drive the higher HP cars and completely ruin races with their sliding. Just today, I ran a race at Cat School and there was a Super Bee, Camaro, and a Cuda in that race. I’m sorry, but those cars have no business being on that track in D class, its 100% handling and all they do is cause wrecks because they can’t take the turns. All three of those cars were lapped multiple times because of all the wrecks and their best laps were over 10 seconds behind the winning car. Why would you want to drive a car that has absolutely zero chance? I can sort of understand it on Sebring or Road america (those cars don’t even do well there anymore with all the Lotus Elans and drag tire Minis that are becoming popular), but not on Laguna, Catalunya, or Bugatti.

Most people who run D class can not drive the muscle cars. Some players drive them very well, but most are awful. They lack the grip to be competitive and they are just stupid unless in the hands of a skillful driver. Things change when you hit C class and higher, but D class is a joke with the muscle cars. I’ve seen you do reasonably well in them, but you’re one of the exceptions, not the norm. Also, I think what you’re seeing with most of the people who crash into you are just crashers in general. Its how they would play the game regardless of the car they drive. They think the lobbies are the same as career races and its okay to use the car in front of you as your brakes.

I guess I should of been more clear. The guys were very clean racers. And fast as … they put my ego where it should be, not my car in the wall.
Lou getting better at yas.

Almost got you on one this morning, Lou. Was doing laps at C Class Cat School. Came up short by 1/10th of a second. Put me at 576.

I couldn’t believe some of the names I was ahead of:

V12 TN Eagle
ERS Johnson
Don Ente

Understand, I’m nowhere near their level and they could beat me 9 different ways and 10 on Sunday. Cat School is kind of a throwaway track that most people don’t put a lot of effort towards. Still, it’s nice to be in the neighborhood of some awesome drivers that I greatly respect, even if only on one track.
