Even with a decent group, this week is a clown show. the first quarter of the first race, there’s AI swerving like they’re completely drunk, but they aren’t losing any speed, yet will take that first 90 degree right with absolute precision then resume swerving like a drunk before punting you off the side of the cliff. I usually run Highly Skilled on everything but Street Racing… I enjoy a challenge, but the AI in street racing in general, never mind amped up to Unbeatable is a joke in H5. I don’t even try class A in Street Racing because I know the AI will show up in Bone Shakers and it’ll be a complete pain to try to win.
Had to come first in the last two races due to the other player that was left, felt it was fun to come last. So in essence I carried them through, you’re welcome whoever you are. I tried twice, the first time players insisted on blocking me and using me as brakes, so I just gave up after a short time.
I wanted to give it a try today again, but even finishing first doesn’t do anything if your teammates are stuck at the last five places. And of course nobody of them left the race. Got that today three times now, that I would have won if the last ones would have left the race. It’s ok when you think for the first race ok - give it a try. But if you know you won’t even finish the race when the 30s timer pops up why not leave than? And in that 3 championships none of the other players did overtake a single drivatar. Seems the mediocre reward of a car already one by anybody who played the game (as it is a ingame show race reward) did not attrack the drivers with some skill out there…
I only had yesterday one chance in about 10 championship do win, we won one race, the AI the second, and in the third I was all alone by myself and in second place as my cat walks over the keyboard and sat down on the space key (=handbrake). Missed that one by 50 points…
if you start at the back and your teammates aren’t making any progress against the drivatars then your really stuffed… You need somebody to get ahead of them ASAP to at least try and hold them back…
Every time I got punted and missed a checkpoint I quit to give the remining players a better chance… I usually let all my “teammates” thru (but will pass if they mess up) and then happily take on the drivatars before holding them up…
I usually don’t have too many problems getting a car tuned but this time even with some “top tunes” it was just too much…
The problem with “top tunes” is they are usually the ones that have the most hp and the first released when a specific car is needed for an event like this. I don’t believe these tunes are anything more then upgrades and I believe no actual tuning has been done. Give my tune a try as it’s actually tuned. I’m not trying to get my tune downloaded or popular for money as I have every car and almost 200 million, I’m genuinely just trying to help.
This is a nice tune. I tried it in rivals and did 2.19 at Wetland, which is the fastest I’ve done in the Porsche. Then had a go at the trial in it and comfortably won both races. I’d describe it more as an intermediate/expert car though - you need a small amount of throttle control (at least with TCS off) and the RWD launch means you’ve got to be comfortable being at the back and overtaking people. Fun to drive.
Yeah, maybe I should have mentioned that the tune does take a little throttle management being that it’s RWD and there isn’t much of a rear tire width upgrade available for this car. I run everything RWD with no assists so I’m used to being at the back at the start and managing the throttle. It’s easy to make up for the poor start as most people run AWD and AWD understeers terribly so you usually catch them in the first few turns. Plus you lose a lot of potential hp and top speed by AWD swapping due to the PI hit for AWD. Always made me wonder why people AWD swapped in the first place as the only upside is a good launch.
Anyways, glad the tune worked out for you and glad to hear it was faster in your rival times too.
Just stability I think, I know in the Trial I’d rather take a car I can do a solid time with consistently than one that has the potential to do a better one but asks more of me to achieve it.
I guess. But with the right tuning, you can make RWD very stable. The only real issue is under heavy acceleration at lower speeds but Horizon games don’t have a lot of these low speed areas. I can think of only a few tracks that have hairpin turns where I struggle a little getting a solid run out of them with RWD. Once your up to speed you can rely on aero to keep the rear planted.
Of the 20 times I’ve tried in the last day or so, at least 15 of them I start on the back row. I don’t claim to be an awesome driver, but in previous weeks, I can hold my own and usually finish top 3 in Trial races. But starting that far back where you have no chance to sprint past the bulk of the AI in the first 1/4 mile just to make it into the top half of the field, it’s ridiculous. There’s a difference between a challenge and just screwing you over with the AI, and this week is definitely the latter. Thankfully I already have the Cossie and I don’t NEED the points to get the seasonal reward Peel, I was only attempting The Trial for the 10 points to get it quicker. I’ll get that when I finish the championships and PR stunts.
Almost ditto! Also not an awesome driver myself, but normally get through OK, finishing in the middle somewhere. Most of times I have started at the from the front (once with DJS RS200 tune), still got passed quickly by but managed to end up 5th or 6th and I think and as a team, ended up with 800 points or something.
The best I achieved personally is with the Hoonitruck and came 5th, with the my team wining the first race.
We lost the second race and I was 4th or 5th in the third race and the team I was on was winning and at about 96%, myself and another player came off that damn bridge near the end and ended up losing.
It was the first time I’ve done race 3 and the bridge di catch me by surprise, but not a very good excuse for letting that team down…Sorry guys.
I might have been lucky on my few races, but when I have started from the back row in my self-tuned F-100 Hoonitruck (SC 284 668 623), which handles reasonably well and is quite easy to drive with with TCS & TC off, but which is by no means as quick as some other tunes (that may be down to the driver though), I managed to get through the field quite quickly and could maintain 4th or 5th.
This is one of the last Hoonigan vehicles I have tried and it seems the F-100 Hoonitruck dominates most races recently, so maybe that’s the way to go for anyone struggling.
The devs are definitely messing with our heads and as I’ve said before (and got ridiculed for it), the AI times should be based on the times of the best players (who had to abide by the FH5 laws of physics) and not some weird out of this world laws of physics. Like someone said earlier, the drivertars were weaving like drunk drivers and then took sharp bends @ high speed.
Anyway, while typing this up in between attempts, I finally managed to complete The Trial (using the F-100 Hoonitruck), but wasn’t without issue and I’m ashamed to say I was carried due to being knocked out of a checkpoint by a stray drivertar and pressing Y didn’t spawn me near the checkpoint so ended up missing it again, arrrrgh, so ended up coming 11th, but team had 2000+ points IIRC.
Was in 4th ot 5th in second race when my new X-Series decided to randomly disconnect from my controller (ongoing, unresolved issue on my new X-Series) and by the time I managed to reconnect, had missed another checkpoint. Still managed to catch up and ended up coming 4th or 5th some how, with the team getting a similar amount of point as in the first race.
However, I do think the AI was having a bad run this time as they didn’t seem as fast as other times I’ve attempted this trial.
I’ve thought in the past there may be varying levels of tenacity from the AI. Like, maybe if you’ve lost a few times, you get a bad AI team that are easier to beat and at least give you a little bit of a chance to win.
I only say this as I’ve never managed to catch back up with the AI after missing a single checkpoint, let alone missing it twice in any of my previous attempts, but this time it was relatively easy (especially on the second race).
Saying that, I don’t know what was going on up front and a team mate may well have been holding back the AI so the stragglers could catch up.
Anyway, all done now, but no fun was had during the taking part of this trial!
For anyone still struggling, try out the F-100 Hoonitruck.
I used my own tune (284 668 623), which is OKish on paper and has a 0-60 of 2.250s and top speed of a little over 208mph, but there’ll probably be better tunes out there.
Just tried it again and the AI were as unbeatable as usual, which makes the randomly dummed-down AI theory more plausible…
I thi k they need to nerf the difficulty down, the game has been out long enough to show most players just can’t drive period. This hurts the community cause the 10 points from this race is what gonna end up costing me 20mil to buy the Lamborghini later down the road
The F100 isn’t particularly strong from my testing - it can win the trial but the Escort, Porsche and Twerkstallion seem comfortably better. I’ll try the tune above though when I get back home in a day or so.
Tried both the Escorts and the Porsche and couldn’t get a tune that was fast and stable enough but never thought of the Twerkstallion, so may give that a go out of interest even though I’ve completed the trial now.
