Sound of tires hitting different pavement surfaces removed or toned down

I used to remember my tires going over the redone patches of road on Mid Ohio e.g. and making a satisfying sound to indicate that the tires are going over a patched/redone road surface.

Also on the Nurburgring, the carousel finally made the tires produce a distinct sound when going over them.

These effects have either been removed or severely toned down since update 9. Why???!

There are other tracks too with patches of road redone or patched up, I don’t know what the term is, where you used to hear pronounced road noise when going over them. Those have been removed.

T10 trying really hard here to frustrate customers it seems.

NO, I don’t have time to show everyone videos. The developers can reproduce this on their own.

Mid Ohio used to have these road noise effects when going over the darker/redone patches of road and so did both carousels on The Ring. These effects are gone and on the carousels, you can now barely hear any kind of distinct road noise.

Another immersion killer. Not happy at all.

Odd. I still hear them clear as day. :man_shrugging:

yeah, this is a your system, setting etc problem not the game. They haven’t been changed at all.

Some clapping can be heard when on the concrete pads. The sound doesn’t intensify during the rougher portions of the track. The triggering starts and stops as if the engine has to load the sound effect from a CD. Its wierd.

Some times the claps sound as if different tires are crossing seams at different times but, again none of the claps are louder when encountering unaligned slabs.

I turned all sound effects off except for tires to hear this. I also noticed interesting things that happened while I could only hear the tire channels.

Rolling noise is the most prominent effect. At Sebring it sounds like wind noise untill you get on the concrete slabs, then it sounds like a muted stadium crowd through a garden hose. I don’t know what tires sound like on concrete at race paces, but at 22 mph, tires on concrete shouldn’t sound like a cheering crowd. I don’t see any siping groves on the concrete so, the tires shouldn’t sound like a typical highway concrete but, the sound in FM23 is definitely an odd choice.

Then when on the tarmaq portions of the track, the tire noise alternated between the crowd and wind noise, depending on if you are turning. Once I hit the tarmaq, I realized that both of these effects might need to be pitched down an octive or two.

While turning, the tires don’t have any sound for scrubbing until you’ve gotten to the point where they begin to howl. This makes the skidding effect sound like it came out of nowhere. Anyone who’s ever driven a car in a parking lot knows that tires make scrubbing noises even while moving slowly. This is nowhere in Forza.

And when crossing the asphault crack repairs or going onto the blacktop patches, where a bump can be seen and felt through the FFB, there are no audio cueues to go along with it.

:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Also, I’m isolating the tire channels, why am I hearing stones hitting the wheel wells? Shouldn’t that be part of the chassis sound effects, along with springs, suspension and body collisions?

One way or another, they should improve this aspect to heighten immersion.

Nope, they added “clapping” sounds of the tires going over both carousels on the Ring and the patched over sections of tarmac on Mid Ohio. It’s gone now.

Now… There’s just a faint scraping sound on the carousels while the other tracks are muted.

Not on my rig. I hear them all clear as day.

Well that’s odd. I could swear the carousels were louder with the tire clapping sounds more prominent an update ago.

Mid Ohio also had those effects when going over the fresh/darker patches of road. Those are gone now.

I hear them at Brandshatch for some reason even though I don’t see any undulations or patches of road that would make the tires make a brief and faint clapping noise…

They were louder, yes. A bit too loud imho. They’re definitely not gone tho.

I no longer hear these sounds on Mid-Ohio or VIR on my Series S.

But they do still make a sound on a couple of other tracks I drove.

I did not check whether it was specifically related to the track, or perhaps the car or tire I’m running. Given the uneven results… could be anything.

One thing is for sure: the tire clapping sounds over both the carousels at The Ring have been toned down. They sounded so good and satisfying to hear as you maintained speed and timed your corner exit perfectly.

They are actually quite prominent IRL no matter what kind of car you’re driving, you can hear it in flyby and POV videos.

The ones on Mid Ohio were satisfying to hear too. Dunno why those are gone. Complete silence now and as for the carousels, it’s more of a faint scraping sound as if the suspension is bottoming out, rather than the signature tire clapping sounds you hear IRL or we heard in the game prior to the latest update
