So...will T10 ever improve forza's lighting model

Forza does a great job when it comes to controller input. The cars feel how you think they would irl, when you use a wheel though is when the facade falls apart. Forza and pcars are both simcades on oppsite sides of the spectrum. Pcars is more sim, forza is definitely more arcade. Its not a bad thing, theres no “sims” with over a 150 cars, theres no way to have 400-500 cars and simulate them all properly. When it comes to eye candy at the end of the day none of these other games can say they run at 1080p 60fps where forza motorsport can. Horizon 3 looks really good but its 30fps so certain things can and will look better. But either way im sure that Australian sky with its newer lighting model is coming to a motorsports near you.

Thanks a lot.

I’ve not got it installed just now as I’m struggling for space but I really should give it another go. When I load it back on I’ll definitely zap you a PM.

Cool, my doors are open! It’s just 24.5 gigs BTW. But I know what you mean. I often find myself getting rid of games just to try out new ones. I don’t have an external and using the launch console. A pain to sometimes re-download older games if a revisit is in order but mehh… I’m not one to have too many games in my collection anyway.

I doubt if lighting is a major concern for them as they could have improved it and made it more photorealistic even back in the X360 days. FM2 and 3 looked pretty good - it wasn’t until FM4 that the lighting model started to look a bit oversaturated. Granted, 5 and 6 fine tuned it a bit, but it is still fairly oversatured, particularly in the sky and how sun beams/rays are projected down on tracks.

In my rather humble opinion, the lighting in H3 looks pretty bright and saturated during certain times of day, almost cartoon-like, whereas at nights, it is so oversaturated, that the brake lights take a bright orange/pink hue rather than red. (No, it’s not my TV or anybody else’s)

I’m fairly certain they’re going to use the added oomph of the Scorpio to give the game a more refined look overall with virtually no aliasing, as you pointed out too. However, I badly crave a real-life look and it doesn’t even have to be too flashy, glossy or CGI-like. Just real… something which Mortal Kombat 1 in the arcades pulled off in the 80s!

Being said, I’d rather they give more importance to more complex and nuanced physics calculations as well as detail-rich and highly accurate car audio. Upgrade sounds should be given serious thought - we didn’t quite get them back since FM2.

Pretty sure that better (dynamic) lighting will come when they can afford it without compromises elsewhere, just like they did with rain. Which will be next gen, not Scorpio. That Scorpio power will be earen up by the move to native 4k, which in turn means perfect antialiasing for us 1080p folks. I don’t expect dynamic lighting to be there (it’s already in the engine, see Horizon 3) because it would mean to reduce something else like car count. And for 7 it should be enough to have 3 static times of day plus night plus rain for every track.
