So whats the trick?

So whats the trick for not getting penaltys? I get them for being rammed of the road i get the when people bump in to me and i get them when i bump in to other people but some people seems to never get them. For example some guy rammed me more than 3 times and on the 4th time he rammed of the road and i got like 2sec penatly for being of road. And what did he get? Not one second. So clearly people has figured out a way to drive dirty and not be punished for it. And this is something i see in pretty much all races. In general there dont seem to be a reason behind why people get penaltys, i would say 80% of the ones i get are wrong. Like for example in a corner, someone push me from behind in to another car, the person who did the first hit, dont get a penalty and either i or the person i hit gets it.

I really dont see any logic behind the system ?

You don’t get penalties for going off the road and not gaining an advantage. You get penalties for braking hard right in front of people. I think those two are things I have noticed and probably confuses people. You might have an earlier spin out, get back on the road without being mindful of other drivers, the next guy rams into you (because after all you just backed up on to the track without him/her being aware of you) and you get 2.5 seconds penalty for getting rammed.

Not sure on the logic but I’ve seen some decent penalties given for intentional ramming and I’ve not been given any myself despite being rammed and the occasional collision that was probably my fault but minor.

My last mp race I had worked my way up to 6th from 17th with a clean overtake and half a lap to go. The guy I overtook clearly didn’t like that so a couple of bends later pushed my back end out but I managed to recover it and crossed the line in 7th. I was awarded 6th by about 0.2 seconds because the guy that rammed me had a 4 second penalty. That was quite satisfying!

On certain tracks, it does not matter if you keep the throttle open. It’ll still penalize you and why even have run-offs you can’t use? The one by the Blistein Curve on the Nurburgring GP circuit straight up comes to mind. You have one wheel near it, you’re getting a penalty.

With all respect; having this system with its flaws is 100% better than not having a penalty system. I find it to be fair most of the time. I sometimes get a penalty when I wasn’t intentionally ramming, but it is hard to argue that I wasn’t careless.

I just don’t get the system, clearly some people have figured it out and can get away with more stuff and people like me who dont get it, get punsihed when i clearly have done nothing wrong. So if someone hits me i should let go of the gas or if i bump in to someone i should also let go of the gas? I just want to drive as clean as i can but still i also race to win but right now its kinda hard since the rules of whats clean and not is messy

I just got a 2.5s penalty driving down the straight on Lime Rock and I have no idea why. The car in front of was maybe 3 car lengths ahead and the one behind was 4/5 and I didn’t go off the track. First time that’s happened.

Got another one later in the race when I went way wide to let a faster car have the inside. They locked up going into the turn, slid into me, we both went off track, and I got a 4.4s penalty.

Two laps later, tires are starting to go. Couldn’t hold a corner on exit and my back tires caught the dirt. Both cars behind me went past and when I got back on the track, I ended up with a 1.2s penalty. That was the last straw and I absolutely rage quit.

I’m S rated - almost at 10 straight races - and that’s by far the most penalties I’ve ever taken. I have, occasionally, caught a warranted penalty, but that’s not the norm. Other drivers can still bounce off you going into a turn instead of braking and drive off with no penalty. IMO, that is the single most egregious move you can pull in a racing game and they’ve somehow manage to implement a system that doesn’t penalize it.

I’ve been really enjoying this game, but there are some big fixes that need to happen.

I largely avoid penalties while still making the occassion contact. All I do is race clean, hold my line, and never nudge/ram unless there’s a car breaking to hard and I sometimes just hold my line and drive through. The penalty system doesn’t seem to penalise me for this and I get the upper hand.

That happened with me yesterday where someone spawned right in front of me during practice, could even have been qualifying thinking about it. The impact is before you even realise there’s a car appeared in front of you!

As unfair as the penalty system can be at times, it makes people aware of their surroundings . If collisions were not a thing, this would be Wreckfest 2.

Well in the first corners it is

The penalty system needs to do a better job at discouraging players from unclean racing.

Absolutely. But it must be one of the trickies features to implement. There are so many variables that their automated system has a very hard task.

With a silly analogy it is like T10 have hired a lot of track stewards, but sadly they are half blind . T10 are now trying to make glasses for them so they can see better but they still can’t see much

T10 have to decide if the stewards should be more strict or more laid back. It is not an easy thing to balance.

But I have seen many online races on youtube, and the youtuber when has an “accident”, or is a bit too aggressive and sees the upcoming collision report… he literally starts praying!. :joy: This is why I think that the system kinda works even if it is far from working well.

Fingers crossed that with all the data that the races are generating they will we able to improve the system.

I really want to see online replies working because then we will see whats going on and we will able to judge the system better.

The biggest issue I see currently having played MP daily is it feels like everyone regardless of skill rating is lumped into the same event.

The second issue I see is skill and safety rating is too easy to max out and changes too quickly.

The third issue I see is time penalties aren’t harsh enough to really discourage ramming. Maybe they should consider instant DQ or ghosting rammers.

So although I see many valid complaints on the fairness or accuracy of the penalty system, I think the root cause is else where and can be easily improved.

Today I had my first race since the Premium early days that there was no rammer there. I want to believe that something is changing and last week patch is beginning to work. Yeah that is a lot of faith lol.

The problem is that if you don’t let new people to compete with “true” S people, they will have their first Forza MP experience racing against aggressive people and rammers.

I am not even sure if the system was done for rammers. I think it is more like a system to educate players. To let them know “hey boy, this is serious”.

I think there should be a way to manually report rammers so they can be flagged, and investigated. But that would be costly and it is the sort of thing that would require a monthly subscription, like iRacing.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct

Unsportsmanlike conduct pertains mainly to intentional race disruption, such as wrecking, ramming, spearing, shoving, pitting, wall riding, brake checking, blocking, and track cutting/extending to pass another racer to gain position. In other words, going out of your way to intentionally ruin a race goes against the spirit of the game and can result in enforcement action.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct

This one is simple: any evidence of players intentionally ramming, wrecking, pinning, pitting, spearing, shoving, and blocking in any online race will see action taken against them.

Thanks a lot. I should know better. Reading now.
