so i decided to get a wheel...

so i got myself a TM TX wheel to finnally experience forza 5 and all i can say is WOW, and not in a good way. i found the whole driving experience actually dreadful.

i have played forza for a very long time and have a fair bit of experience with forzas on FFB wheels. forza 5 does not feel any better than what forza 4 did on my modded wheel, in fact it feels so much worse. firstly laaaag, the amount in this game is compleatly rediculoius how anyone can says they cant feel it or notice it is beyond me. it makes the driving feel very snappy and just really doesnt feel good at all IMHO, just a slight hint of oversteer and things get out of whack very quickly. secondly the FFB (now maybe im spoiled by my modded wheel a little) it still feels like it has the same problems as forza 4 (i started a thread about that recently too http://forums.forza.net/turn10_postst15572_feeling-on-FFB-steering-wheel.aspx) it may be slightly improved over 4 but the difference is not very noticeable if at all.

the wheel itself: not worth it at all IMO, not much better than my old fanatec GT2 wheel, and honestly i would choose the gt 2 over this any day of the week.

overall i am VERY VERY disapointed in this title and the Xbox One (new FFB that is supposedly better than everything? what a total joke), so much so that im certain i will be selling the lot very soon.

my 2 cents, if its worth anything

Do you have steering, acceleration & braking set to 0-100?
Did you set vibration anywhere from 75-100?
Do you have FFB set at 100?
What are your DOR set to? I like 900 DOR for FWD. I use 540 DOR for RWD R Class & down. I use 330 DOR for indy & F1 cars.
Before you run your first race of the day, do you go to any track first & hit brake first when you start race (do not hit gas, by hitting brake first, you sink that peddle with FM5. Then exit race & go do whatever you were going to do during session. inside sim racing)

I don’t notice any input lag. I had the MS Wheel on 360 for Forza 2-4. By all means, my experience with the TX is a million times better on FM5 (especially can’t wait for Project Cars).

yes
yes (100)
yes
900 DOR simulation steering (mostly drove production cars, had a quick drive of the lotus E21 but lowered the DOR for that)
already done all that

if you havent played anything other than forza on a wheel you probably wouldnt even realise

if i want PCars i will get it on my PC, were im not limited by what hardware i can use.

Also, wait on November & Project Cars before you decide to sell the lot. My 2 cents.

How do you like TX on your PC? Even used it there? Is your TX a launch one? If so, did you update the firmware? (current brand new ones have firmware already loaded on it).

I have the TX wheel, and that is not my experience with it at all. I get full one to one movement with it, and on both the X1 and PC. Have you adjusted the deadzones? when I first got my TX back in January, I had something like a 15% inside deadzone on the steering, throttle and brake. Even though I have them set at 0%/100% respectively from when I used the xbox one gamepad.

This is one of my more recent drives used the wheel, the incar view is from direct gameplay. FM5 | Nurburgring | B-class | NSX | No Line - YouTube

I would suggest doing these things when you next want to play forza, and in this exact order.

  1. Make sure your wheel is using the .45 thrustmaster TX firmware, you will need to use a PC to do this. Information on how to check all this is available from this website link: http://ts.thrustmaster.com/eng/index.php?pg=view_files&gid=12&fid=83&pid=366&cid=15

  2. Turn off the Xbox ones instant on mode (if it is not already), turn off the Xbox one and unplug it from the electrical outlet for about 5 to 10 minutes.

  3. Set up your wheel in the desired location while you wait, and plug it into the electrical outlet you want to use with it; do not plug the USB cord into the X1 at this time!

  4. Plug the Xbox one back in and turn it on.

  5. Plug in the Xbox one controller via USB, and with your desired headset connected. This is useful for if you want to race online or talk with friends in a party; and has to be done before plugging in the wheel.

  6. Sign into your profile from the Xbox one dashboard using the Xbox one controller.

  7. Connect your Thrustmaster TX wheel via USB to your xbox one, and allow it to calibrate.

  8. Load up forza, do this from the wheel.

  9. You will be asked to pick a desired profile to use forza with after pressing A at the start screen, ONLY use your wheel to select your desired profile.

  10. Check your deadzone settings in advance controller settings, and set the DOR to your desired setting. I personally use 900DOR for all road cars, 510DOR for GT/V8/DTM race cars, 300DOR for LMP/Prototype/F1/other open wheel race cars. Make sure you have 0% for the inside deadzones, and 100% for the outside deadzones for steering, acceleration, and deceleration. Set you force feedback to the desired amount, I am using 60/65% at the moment, and have vibration somewhere around 75%.

You should be good to go after all of this, and you shouldn’t have any issues with steering input lag. If you still experience input lag after following all these steps in the order I have put them, then you need to firstly check your TV’s advanced processing options, and use a gaming mode if your tv has one. The advanced processing that a modern HDTV does, can cause lag vai the HDMI and other inputs to the TV itself. If that doesn’t work, try a different TV in your home.
If that doesn’t help, then I would recommend contacting the seller you bought your TX from, and inform them you want an exchange; as the one you have is not working correctly. If you still have input lag after that step, then I am all out of idea’s. Those are the only things I can think of and suggest at this point, and hopefully following them will solve your issues.

i cant see your wheel in your video so its no good for a lag test at all. i have done all this already, the lag is not coming from my TV as its the same tv i use for my PC, and i dont have an issue with it there. and its not the wheel either because it works fine on PC, the lag is coming from the Xbox1

i did have a shot on the pc, its better on there than the XB1 but its newhere near my csr elite, my elite is much stronger, faster more versatile all round and ive got a quick release on it with a couple of different rims to use on it. its brand new, already had FW loaded on it.

Are you using default rim on TX? It stinks. I have both GTE & F1 rims for TX. I like them in this order, F1>GTE>Stock. Using F1 rim really enhanced my experience with TX on FM5. I really love the shape of F1 rim. I can crank that bad boy with ease, way better than stock rim.

i have the stock rim and the GT rim from the t500rs, while i agree that changing the rim improves the feel of the wheel itself it doesnt change the way the game plays.

Well, me and lalyrn posting here don’t experience input lag. Perhaps it’s something wrong with your USB 3.0 ports on your X1.

Kind of strange, I have seen people posting on other forums that the TX feels better to them than their old fanatec devices (GT2’s, Turbo S, CSR and CSR Elite. even Fanatecs premium pc wheel, the CSL). Although that isn’t a constant. I havnt had a single issue with my TX at all, and I have yet to see anyone mention anything about input lag while using it on the xbox one or PC. In fact that is something that Thrustmaster and Microsoft would take pretty seriously, as it means there would be something wrong with the programming and/or communication between console and wheel. The only thing I have seen people really complain about, is the pedals. They are cheap, and some have decided to use the T500RS pedals, or take it a step further with the Basher fanatec to TX pedal adaptor. The general consensus has been though, that the Thrustmaster TX wheel base is very good.

Link for the basher pedal adaptor by the way, just in case you havnt already got it, or are interested in it. CPX Adapter | BasherBoards

p.s is your pc connected to your tv via VGA, DVI or HDMI? If it is VGA or DVI, it would be doubtful you would suffer much lag over the display connection (most tv’s have a dedicated PC mode over VGA and DVI). If you have your pc connected via HDMI and have no lag over the display connection, then yes that would doubtfully be an issue with your X1 setup.

may not be input lag, could be grapghical lag from the X1, i know on Assetto corsa on PC i had an issue with that, running at 60FPS there was noticable lag which made the cars behare very familiar to what i experience in forza. after upgrading my GPU and hitting much higher framerates the problem disapeared.

my TX wheel has now stopped working, so i will have to wait till a new one arrives now so i can test that and make sure it wasnt just a faulty wheel.

is that on both your X1 and PC?

is what? sorry not sure what the question is aimed at

just out of curiosity why is this moved to the hardware section?

To the wheel now not working, that is where my question is aimed.

As for the mods moving this thread into here, I would assume it is because your thread is more hardware related than forza specific. But I am not a mod, so I can only guess at that.

for me PS4 fanboy…
most reviews of Forza 5 together with the TX wheel + GTE Wheel Add-on say that it is the most immersive experience actually available.
So it obvious, that not everyone will agree at 100% with this but posting something so negative, I think it’ not objectively.

I have played a lot of GT5 with a Playseat +G27 setup. And i was happy about this.
But now, FM5 + Playseat revolution + TX wheel + GTE wheel addon and T3PA pedals is miles ahead.

sorry, my opinion

i will have to wait now for a replacement wheel so i can give another go, i will update here if i find the experience improved with another wheel.

In that case yes, it’s stopped working all together.
