Just interested what folks’ thoughts are on the steering options in Horizon 2.
Initially I played the demo and was completely underwhelmed. Game felt overly arcade-like to the point I wasn’t enjoying it at all. Quickly realised that it would be set to Normal by default, so jump into the options and switched to Simulation. Totally transformed the game for me.
Don`t have the full version yet, but on the demo I actually liked both options.
Normal felt more relaxed (or arcadey if you like), but not bad at all imo.
Simulation felt a bit more direct, and seemed to highlight the difference in surfaces a lot more, getting one wheel in the dirt had more impact…closer to what you get using a steering wheel.
As a controller racer at the moment it kind of puts me at a bit of a disadvantage, but I prefer sim steering. I think the physics feel great and not arcade at all. They don’t feel hardcore sim, but they feel authentic enough. Sim steering with a controller doing those cross country races is a great challenge to say the least. Maybe I am just not very good, I don’t know.
I use simulation with a controller. its a love and hate. when you are on the road and driving great simulation is awesome but stick a wheel off and good luck pulling it back in without losing control.
i run simulation on controller and wheel, personally, car feels much more responsive and realistic, where normal almost feels like Need for Speed or Horizon 1 physics
I’m at the same love hate point but sticking with stimulation steering. If you start off careful you get to love the more engaged feel…until you lose it… I’m finding that at a lower steering ratio I’m getting the hang of it and you need to focus more on the slightest changes in ff and react.
With tuning in RL softening the dampers should help by making loss of grip more progressive, but I didn’t feel that in the ff when I tried.
