Should I buy this game?

Hello guys,

I am thinking of buying this game but (!!!)… I bought Logitech G920, I played some games like NFS Shift 2 , DiRT Rally and I wanted to play Forza 7. I downloaded demo, I went through tons of tutorials how to set the steering wheel (though most of them are from full game) and the cars from demo are almost undrivable (Porsche totally, in Nissan I can finish race without spinning all the time but with snail speed).

What am I doing wrong? Is demo that bad? Not mentioning that during 4 races I got 2 CTDs?

Any advice? I want this game, I want to tune cars, race them and so on but so far I am not able.

Don’t buy the game. FM7 like all past games is horrible with a wheel. You can get it to feel somewhat OK after a fair bit of tweaking but you’ll always be faster on an Xbox controller. Get Assetto Corsa or Project Cars 2 for the wheel. Both are amazing with a wheel and horrible with a controller. And just so you know I’ve owned a Logitech G920 as well for almost 2 years.

FM7 is a disaster full of bugs in every game mode. Cars load in grey paint, sounds freeze up, scrolling through cars is laggy and full of bugs and worst of all the game kicks me out to dashboard on a regular basis asking me to buy the game I already own (own digital copy on Xbox). The base game has almost no new content other than a handful of cars and a few tracks and the cars you want to buy are locked behind a wall requiring you to spend countless hours grinding it out in the career mode and Forzathon events to get all these locked cars.

Turn 10 should be ashamed of this game as it’s a total steaming pile of you know what. Spend your money elsewhere as Turn 10 clearly has no interest in listening to the Forza Motorsport community and improving this game. They’ve turned what could have been an epic console racing simulator into an arcade-ish (Forza Horizon) racer that places more emphasis on car collecting than “Motorsport” racing… Even worse is you have to stare at your driver in all the menus tweaking in a clown race suit (a long requested feature since FM1 no doubt).

OP,

Don’t listen to nonsense like this - I’m a long time wheel users, have friends who race the G920 and we have no problem posting in the top 1% and better with a properly tuned car. Lots of factors go into racing with a wheel starting with the configuration in game - that’s any game. Night and day difference just changing the center spring in FM7. Look at the FFB thread - has good info for wheel settings. There’s bugs in the game but minor in my opinion. Send me a FR and I’ll be happy to point you in the right direction if you get the game.

I wouldn’t buy it if you are a car enthusiast and want accurate car sounds. The only thing this game has going for it are the physics (they’ve pretty much always been great) and the graphics. It’s a fun game, but it’s definitely not worth the $100 for the ultimate edition. Maybe just buy it and if you don’t like it, get a refund.

To add to what has already been mentioned the AI is horrible…and horrible is putting it lightly…MP is a total demo derby disaster…and if you find a lobby you like they are likely to yank it or change it…you get no feedback on fixes or changes…and if you wish to race in a private lobby with a few friends there is no option to add the AI…tho I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing as I said the AI is atrocious…

Calm down guys it is not that bad. The comments above are somewhat justified because since the release we have had more than our fair share of drama. I don’t know if they updated the demo but since Nov 7th update on PC I have only had a couple of CTD’s and I have covered a lot of miles in long races. prior to that a couple of laps and it was all over for me. As for your wheel, I used my wheel in RaceRoom, Dirt Rally, Dirt4, AC F1 2016, The Crew and PC2 all worked very well so the natural progression would be to use it in FM7. FM6 was a little ordinary but lined it up okay in the end. FM7 was a disaster at first since no matter what I did I couldn’t get the animated hands to line up with my turns which caused over correction by distraction. I was using Cockpit view the second option Driver view I had no mirrors. In Settings > Advanced down the very bottom I found Match setting to Controller(or something like that) Now my wheel works very well I match my controller times To me, it feels more natural to be turning wheels and using pedals in a car racing game. It is a good game and T10 have been working towards addressing issues. The AI takes some getting used to and probably the toughest thing to overcome in the game so the only thing I can offer up is - Remember they are not your friends and never will be. They hate you with a passion therefore never wave as you go past them just flip the bird and soldier on.

your not doing anything wrong, its just that you cant try to drive in forza like you do in need for speed, you have to get used to the game.
also, forza has always been best with the controller, sorry to tell you that.
but if you really want to use your wheel to its full potential, get a game called “Assetto Corsa” or a game called “Project Cars 2”, both are awsome with a wheel.
be warned though, both those games have far less online players than Forza 7, so if that matters to you, you should take that into consideration.

I enjoy playing F7 on a controller as its not a sim and just a giggle to play. My actual go to sim is Assetto Corsa and that’ll suit your wheel nicely. I use a g27 on that . It’s less gamey than F7 but the physics are really good and the modding scene is amazing.
Should you buy F7 ? If you want a bit of fun with loads of cars and things to do than defo buy it. If you want to push your driving to the limits and enjoy cracking feedback and reality based handling then AC is the place to go.

You can have my copy!

Expensive game - yes!

There are many corners how would one approach is this a good investment or not. Enough tracks, good car selection ( I like production cars, not that much into forumula/indy/nascar). Then game has depth… as tuning, driving on sp/mp, painting.

Quite many bugs is addressed, I think more patches still on the queue. Works well enough for wheel. No need to worry about constant spinning (at least because of wheel). Might be car tuning issue if oversteering still.

Worth of buying? Yes I say.

yes you should buy the game. The demo with default wheel settings for the G920 on the Porsche is awful. The main game is much better. I also have the G920 and can give you my settings if you need them. I also have settings for Forza Horizon 2/3, Forza 5/6, Dirt Rally, F1 2016, and Project Cars 1.

Yea you should if you want masses of cars and the ability to mod/tune/paint, yes it has some bugs at the moment but it’s already far better than it was on release (at least for me on PC)

If however you want a proper SIM racing game for your wheel then as mentioned Assetto Corsa is probably the better choice, though the online player population isn’t massive and as I’ve found unless you get ALL the DLC there’s a fair few amount of online lobbies you can’t even join. ~ not to mention 50% are locked with password.

I have G27 wheel and it can be great on F7 when setup but it’s hit and miss depending on the car, I’m always quicker with the pad.

This game on 4k HDR with the Xbox one X looks amazing. On a worthwhile PC it looks amazing.
Controller feel for driving is where it’s at but it’s not the best with a wheel.
The AI is perhaps the worst AI in any current racing game Ive played.
The car selection here far surpasses any other game on the market. The track selection is alright as well.

The loot crate system, with car tier and vehicles being locked out I’m not a huge fan of personally but I know some enjoy it.

Then there is the homologation; while I think it’s a good idea the implementation I’m not particularly fond of. I’d like to see multiple tiers or levels of a homologation standard within many car division where it would seem plausible.

That said, the game has been a lot of fun to play alone for the most part. Custom private lobbies work but you really need the humans to fill them up.

I’d say buy the game BUT only once it goes on sale. I wouldn’t pay full price for it yet.

Absolutely you should buy the game. It’s a fantastic game. Do not listen to the unsatisfiable naysayers. T10 could give them literally everything they’re asking for and all they’d do is move onto something else in the game that they deem unworthy.

I wouldn’t say I’m an unsatisfied naysayer. He asked for an honest opinion so to add to my negative review I will add some positives. I absolutely love setting up long endurance races in Freeplay mode(other than having to use dirty tactics to beat the AI). I was never interested in Indycar until I did the rival run against Josef Newgarden and I’ve been running Indycar more often than the P2 and GT division which I loved. The graphics are great on tracks. I ran 50 laps on Prague yesterday in the #2 Team Penske indycar. The Track itself is a relatively easy track but the background is absolutely stunning. I don’t drive with a wheel as I haven’t acquired one yet but I plan to in the future. I’ve played many of the division series and tried out different cars. It has allowed me to learn different cars and technique when driving. I didn’t like the feel of the Trophy Trucks or the Ultima Evo 1020 series but after a lap or 2 I got the feel of the car and just got a better understanding of how to adjust my driving. I like the Bounty Hunter Challenge in Rivals. I never got close to Josef Newgarden and I have some improvement to do on the latest. They put me in cars I normally wouldn’t drive at all but it does make it an interesting challenge. I’m one to accept a challenge and give it my best. But I would have to agree with the poster above who asked questions. What is it you are actually looking for in the game.

As person that last played Forza 3 (enjoyed it) then decided to reenter the Forza racing games with 7. I am really enjoying the game. The hard part is getting use to the way you need to drive in the game to be fast, but go for it. If your looking fun but less than perfect simarcade game.

The others have already answered regarding wheels and technical details but I have a few questions for you that could help you make your mind up.

  • What are the things you enjoyed most when playing older Forza games?
  • What were your favourite features to use in those games?
  • Are there any game modes that you spent a lot of time in?
  • Did you play a lot of Multiplayer and if so, what did you like/dislike about it?

If you provide info on those we can tell you what’s improved/changed which should give you a greater impression of what this game will do for you.

Well, the thread starter hasn’t logged in since he made his post so it’s hard to tell whether Forza Motorsport 7 is worth it for him, since his initial questions are a little too vague.

If anybody else out there doesn’t have the game and is on the fence, ask us the questions quoted above and you’ll get a much more informed answer from the community

It’s you’re money so I cannot recommend what you do with it. All I can say is that I am really enjoying the game. I have played Project Cars and Assetto Corsa. I like Forza much better. It really depends on whether you want to race online or not. I play games to get away, so racing online for me does not do it. If you want to play the career mode it’s a lot of fun. I play with a wheel and I would never to back to a controller. They are a constant reminder that you are playing a video game. And I couldn’t care less if I am in the top 1 percent or even 10 percent of the leaderboard. I play for fun. I want as much immersion as possible. My wheel is a Thrustmaster TX and it helps with the immersion factor. I have no problems staying on the road with the wheel. I have let other people that have never played before try driving with it. They were spinning all over the place. So, it is likely just a case of getting used to the wheel. Don’t take all the complainers to seriously. Just because they spent their money on a game they didn’t want, does not mean you will not like it. It’s your call, spend wisely.

If you were asking if you should by the game like a month ago I would say no because the game had a lot of technical issues like crashes to desktop on PC and crashes on XBOX as well but they have sorted that out and I haven’t crashes since the big patch that came out like a week ago or whenever the xbox one x was launched.

You must know going into a Forza game that it is not a driving simulator so dont expect perfect physics but I enjoy racing with a wheel ( G27 ) and love that the game has so many cars.

After the game was patched I 100% love the game and would recommend it.
