Hey dust. I don’t believe it’s either of those actually. It’s still a lousy 5400 RPM laptop Drive. But it’s now finally on a sata 3 bus. They OG Xbox was using a bus that was basically 10 years old so data throughput wss bottlenecked. That and the faster processor, faster RAM and things like that will give you that boost as well
I’ve been using a solid-state drive on a USB 3 cable for the last couple of years. I generally load into games in about half the time as people using the internal. it’s pretty entertaining on some co-op games for guys to load in and wonder why I’m 200 meters ahead shooting the bad guys already. If you’re going to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on the console, trust me it’s unbelievably worth it to get a solid state drive, even if a small one, and a $15 USB 3 to SATA adapter cable. Make sure it supports uasp. If you can’t afford a big one just get a small solid state drive (minimum size the Xbox support is 256gb, you can’t use a 250 or a 240, it has to be at least 256). put the games you are currently playing on it and leave your older games on the internal.
Horizon 3 load time on internal drive ~90 seconds. Horizon 3 load time on external solid state drive 37 seconds. Yep if you don’t have one, you need one.
It’s much less than 5 times the cost, it’s somewhere between 2-2.5 times the cost.
€500 is a fair bit to spend on a new console for slightly better graphics and performance on a 1080p TV. If you have a decent bit of disposable income it’s not a terrible buy, but a 4K TV would make the purchase more worth it and show it’s full potential.
But spending more then 1200 on a pc is? I still have that same 1080P monitor…
Well, I also have a pc, its a lot of maintenance and extra costs. Between internetsecurity, dozens of different driverupdates that may or may not work together, windows fall updates, java, C++ updates etc…
Also managing all the background processes so they do not slow down your rig. It is so much more hassle then a xbox.
That is the reason that for games, I really rather have a console.
PCMR people do not seem to ever want to take into account that there may be other more important factors to an individual in the choice of a gaming environment than pure performance. They seem to take every opportunity to downplay the XB1X’s capabilities compared to that of a PC without ever acknowledging some of the benefits of console gaming that PCs will never have.
Id like to say thats not what I was doing, at all. I was pointing out 1440P as a good alternative instead of a 4K Monitor/TV as a decent upgrade path with the one X.
If money is not the issue, then yes buy it. You will get smoother and higher FPS and downsampled 4k to your FHD screen will act like a AA, which (in theory) should give you smoother lines (less jagginess).
But since there is Xbox Play Anywhere, that means all the new MS titles are coming to PC as well (among games from other publishers that pretty much all have PC versions as well), my suggestion would be to sell your One/One S (I’m assuming you have console and you don’t care much about older console titles, that are not available on PC), take that money and add to your 500€ One X budget and build a PC, which you can also hook up to your TV and use controller for gaming (among other options).
At launch it’s not worth it. Down the road it will be. Most likely there will be future versions of the Xbox One X with the original falling further behind just like in PC gaming. At some point you will need to upgrade in order to run future titles properly. Right now you don’t have to.
So I’m on the fence with buying the new Xbox one X but wanted to get some feedback on the benefits besides 4k. My current TV is not 4k although I would plan to upgrade in the near future depending on how good the performance in other areas is.
For example as a lot of us are probably aware the car selection is pretty slow especially online. I’d like to know if the upgrade would improve all that. I’m assuming track loading will be quicker too?
I appreciate I’m a bit early with this thread seen as it comes out tomorrow but I’m tempted to go out and get one tomorrow providing the performance beside 4k is worth while.
The answer is still no. Its why I mentioned it supports 1440P Natively. 1440P would give you a much needed clarity upgrade, making the box more worthwhile than upgrading to 4K.
