I only have one question? What does “seemless multi-player with no lobbies” mean. This is a quote from Horizon 3 preview page.
My one and only problem with Horizon 2 was the ridiculous online player vote which always skewed to S2. I hate S2 (and S1) and love B, C, D classes. Before I would even consider buying Horizon 3 I need to know I can play online in whatever class I choose at any time I choose. Does anyone know if this is a possibility? Really love the game but this is a game breaker for me.
It just means that it will be similar to Forza Horizon 2 ala roadtrips and freeroam events. Not actual multiplayer lobbies like the original Horizon had. Although according to one of the recent AR12 YouTube videos, roadtrips may have been replaced by 4-player campaign co-op.
As for the S2 voting, that’s not so much a flaw of the game but a result of the majority interest/demand which may be related to player demographic. Let’s say the game did force a session of D class races at random intervals - if the majority typically votes for higher classes then how many players do you believe would stick around instead of simply backing out and looking for S2?
It most definitely is a flaw. This is MY free time. I should be able to CHOOSE what I want to do. Being forced to play in a way I don’t enjoy couldn’t be more of a flaw. If 99% of the players WANT to play S2 good for them. Make it available. But if I want to race D class please let me have that choice. Even if I have to wait around for other like minded players. Just give players a choice. Being jammed into roadtrips in classes I didn’t want to play is easily the biggest negative of Horizon 2. I would join and quit roadtrips until I finally got put in a B or lower. This is stupid and all I want is a choice up front.
I just need to know if I will be able to choose what class I play in multiplayer. If I can choose which class I play in, I will preorder right now. But if it is like Horizon 2 where you are forced to play whatever class you are put into I have no interest. Seems like someone out there should know this?
Im sure “someone” knows. They either havent seen your question, dont care to answer it, or won’t answer it because odds are its exactly the same as horizon 2. I will agree i didnt like that about the old system either but it wouldnt have been “seemless”, grouping everyone together like this means every lobby is able to be used for whatever. There were and im sure are ways to race specific classes, just not on online road trips.
It means there are no lobbies except If you want a private session. They used the same terms in H2. While I agree H1 lobbies were best and i’m not sure why forza games get lobbies still but horizon doesn’t, saying the game’s ruined is utter insanity. No one knows the true answer because they haven’t said. But they used seemless multi in 2
I think what they mean with the “seamless multiplayer” are the “free-roam lobbies”. Reagarding the races we don’t know that much yet, just only that we don’t have those roadtrips to an event anymore. (online and singleplayer) BUT as they said that we can modify races with their tools, I have the feeling that you can create races with those conditions you like (what cars. which class etc.,I think even so far that you can adjust the PI to numbers like 430 or 450, not the usual full hundered)) that could be usuable in multiplayer.
Btw man, it does sound like if you have never raced at a car meet in FH2? You can use there your lower class cars, regardless what the other person uses.
No, I raced in many car meets. The problem with those races was they were always spotty and ran very infrequently. Plus there was no real variety to them. I just want a choice of class in online road trips or whatever the Horizon 3 version of online road trips are. Not giving players a choice as to what class they choose to race in in multiplayer was the only negative I found in Horizon 2. A game I have played almost daily for the last year and a half but gave up on online racing about 7 or 8 months ago because of lack of this choice.
I loved Horizon 2 and would greatly look forward to Horizon 3 if they can tell me I have a choice in multiplayer races.
The original post highlights a very important issue.
Horizon 2 does not let us make any choices about what to play when we go online. I never get to use my B-class cars because everybody votes S1/S2. People who want to play King/Infected only get to play it 20% of the time. People who want rally (or pavement racing) get it randomly 50% of the time.
The weird thing is that we already fixed this problem in Horizon 1 and also in Motorsport. Horizon 1 had custom public lobbies with keywords. For example, if you wanted to drift, you could find a drift lobby. Motorsport has hoppers. If you want to play D class cars, you can. If you want to play R class cars, you can. Horizon 2 deleted all choices like this.
Note that the only way around this is to try Online Free Roam But, everybody only does drag racing. One person might join your custom race, but they will immediately crash and quit the game. Or, you can use your Xbox friends list to do a private game, but this is not a feature, because it’s outside of the game. The purpose of an online game and the internet is to be able to connect with random like-minded players who you are not already friends with. And previous Forza games had that…
While having all of those choices would be great I would settle for just getting to choose which class I play in. It was so frustrating to get a new lower class car, tune it, paint it, perfect it, run good rivals times with it but then be unable to test it in multiplayer because you couldn’t get into a road trip of its class. Most frustrating and annoying aspect of the Horizon 2 and I really hope this flaw is addressed in Horizon 3. Hopefully they will come out with info soon as to exactly how multiplayer will work.
Well it looks like we are going to have to start forming groups now while we can so we can pick our vlasses of choice. Im in the same boat too, i thought the road trip crap was stupid and frustrating as well . Made me stop playing the game. Lets get it going!!

I guess I’m done with Forza products unless they can give us choices in the online play which is disappointing since everything else is so good but this flaw just ruins it for me. All of the content I want is there but they just won’t let me get to it by randomly sticking people into classes and tracks that they may have no interest in.
Best would be something a long the line of. One is just a quick join. Seamless joining roadtrip or freeroam. Other could be set up for example like private lobbies. That you press on another place. And you get the option to sett the terms. Want to join another with the terms. Create your own. If you just want a pure crew server, friend server, or free to join etc. Give you some options at least. I mainly just use private freeroam since I tend to just play with friends. So ain’t really that bothered with it
Just wondering if there has been any new news on how online play will take place and if there will be any player choice or if it will be like Horizon 2 where there is no player choice at all?
Hey chaps! Just a quick question that has been bugging me a lot! I’ve heard there are no lobbies online like horizon 1 which is a shame… but what about Horizon 3 ?
How will “freeroam” in this instance work?
Will you be able to join any random players game even if they aren’t on your friendlists? Be able to connect online in anyway and just have 12 random players roaming along in the map? Or are we back to square one with only your friends being able to connect to your game…? No friends playing horizon 3, no freeroaming online…?
