I dont have a lot of cr. in FM5, so when I spent a million cr. on the Shelby 427 Cobra to run in B-Class Vintage career race I was very dissapointed in it’s handling characteristic’s. I wish somone had given me a warning before i spent that much. So if anyone can think of any cars that broke the bank , and didnt seem worth it, let’s try to save everybody some CR. and give our opinion’s on which cars they think might be a little diffacult to tune, and /or drive.
Untuned, a lot of those older model ‘race’ cars are practically undriveable, and it makes you really appreciate the skill of those old-time drivers that drove them for hundreds of miles, under rough conditions and still made it look easy.
If you’re going to drive them off the virtual lot untuned and expect good results, stay away from these;
Maserati Tipo “Birdcage”
RUF Yellowbird
Ford GT40 MkII
Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe
TVR Sagaris
Mercedes-Benz SLR
Those are the ones I’ve had issues with driving spec, but with tuning most of these become nice (if slightly untamed) little beasts.
There have been a couple cars I was kindof disappointed with, but a few of them I found tunes, or worked on tuning and are definitely more suitable to my style now. Also, learning to drive with assists off makes some of the cars more derivable–it seems counter-intuitive, but some of the cars “poor” handling is that car’s inability to compensate for poor choices versus another car. For example going from a Skyline to a Holden.
One of the beauties of the game is the suspension and alignment tuning really does change the character of the car much like RL.
I should mention, if you take the time to drive these cars spec and really put in the hours/laps, you can make them perform. The Birdcage, I spent at least 70 laps at Atlanta driving it spec for the Rival event and could get it to produce…‘manageable’…times, but my driving had to be really changed in order to accommodate its nature. Being conscious of your throttle usage, setting up for corners at the right speed/angle of attack, knowing the right points to up/down shift, being able to brake simultaneously with using the throttle, brake control/progression, et al, will all help in addressing the driveability of these cars.
The 427 AC Cobra is actually not at that bad to drive. Where it suffers the most is in corners at high RPM. Brake, take the turn in the higher gear, and downshift once you’re back in a straight line and only if it bogs down and won’t accelerate.
I was hugely disappointed by the Arial Atom V8. The car was alright, but the way the game auto upgraded it for the Ultimate Track Toys championship just made it undrivable, I had to get a friend that used to tune in FM4 to help me with the car just to complete that set of races.
Same here. I couldn’t get a good tune from myself and tried about 10 others before I finally had to drop the difficulty level in the series. I’ll never drive it again.
…but others have said they love it.
I dowloaded HelluvaStinhray’s tune. It’s the best tune I’ve tried for it, but the car is still terrible. I finished the series. It just would have been nice to have another car to choose from or put it in some other series where I could ignore it. I’ll move on.
My Choice: Limited Edition (A700) Aston Martin Vanquish
So, I went ahead and purchased it (because it was A700 and I thought well-tuned given its the Limited Edition model of the car), and boy, what a huge mistake. The car - at least for me, a newbie to Forza - is horrible to drive. It has incredibly slow speed (I get passed by numerous cars in straights), you have to press the brakes all the way in to have any effect and more importantly, its all round handing is awful. I’m playing with a Wheel (TX 458), and currently have my wheel rotation at 270, so perhaps that needs changing.
It was such a shock driving the Vanquish; for the past week I’ve been driving the Lotus E21 and my god, is that car just amazing; perfect braking and handling etc (though a bit slow at times).
