This is my sixth Forza title release on these forums, my fourth as a moderator and as I have some experience with these things, I thought I might share some with all of you.
Everyone wants you guys to be excited and revel in the hype this week. Everyone at Playground Games, at Sumo Digital, at Turn 10 and here on the forums, even Dragnet. Well, maybe not Dragnet but certainly everyone else.
The information tap is slowly creaking open as we’re about to improve from a trickle into a stream and then soon into a flood of information. A great many things are going to be posted on the forums, whether unique new material or reposts from elsewhere on the internet and some of them are going to be, for lack of a better term, wrong. Wrong for any number of reasons from innocent mistakes made in relaying information to outright malignant trolling designed to wind people up. Consider the source, if someone is relaying something they say they saw or heard somewhere else, can they provide a link? If there is a link, who is it from and can that source be trusted? You’re going to start seeing reviews at the end of the week and some of those are going to come from people who aren’t the same sort of passionate racing fans you are, some of them will be reviewing the first driving game they have ever played.
Unfortunately, experience shows that a few unfounded rumours are going to make it through and some people are going to be taken in by them and convince themselves they are true and when reality proves to be different, they’re going to claim loudly and longly that they were lied to and that the developer has deliberately removed that which was never actually promised by them and then we have to give them an involuntary break to release the grip on their pearls.
Please don’t be one of those people, keep the salt handy and take a pinch with every new tidbit of information you see this week.
Exactly, it’s best to rely on a bit of restraint and a balanced outlook when it comes to these things. Everyone’s chomping at the bit because we are beginning the one week countdown. It is all new to me as I almost never buy a game on release (Diablo 3 PC, Mechwarrior Online in Closed Beta, then before that I go back to to like Civilization 2 and 3!). You’re right also the interwebz as it’s been called is sometimes not the best source for factual material or balanced opinions and statements.
I completely agree. There are always so many fake/troll articles around and unfortunately people may be victim of those.
On a side note: Hopefully the BAC Mono will show up and the reality won’t be proven to be different.
Kind of a scary post, saw something similar from Bungie prior to Destiny and now we know why. I hope this is just an ill timed warning directed at those not smart enough to “mind the sources” and not a request from higher-ups in an attempt to mitigate the backlash from what may be a very pedestrian game. I sincerely have high hopes for FH2 and a small portion of that hope just turned to dread. As always I will judge for myself.
I’m a volunteer moderator and this thread is my own idea based on seeing last night some of the same signs I’ve seen with each release I’ve been present for on the forums.
Fair enough, I wasn’t insinuating in any way that you were paid to extinguish the flames and apologies if it came across that way. On the whole, I share your sentiment and it was just the timing that caused the red flags. Based on the demo and the inclusion of tuning I think FH2 is poised to have exceedingly more replay value than FH1. Looking forward to release.
No worries, with all the new folks that will be joining the forums this week and in the weeks to come, it’s probably a good idea to clarify my position anyway.
Good information is good for debate and difference of opinion, which is fine on this forum. Bad information is bad for everyone because it leads to faulty arguments and accusations. That’s all we want to mitigate.
From actually playing a demo for the game, i can say the Xbox One version is certainly looking good, and i imagine the Xbox 360 version will be similar, but don’t quote me on that.
There have some ridiculous ‘facts’ posted about Horizon 2 lately. It happens each time a new Forza is due, but this time it seems somehow worse. Maybe it’s the generational gap and lack of info for one version over the other, maybe it’s a spillover of trolling from the #gamergate furore that makes people think they can say anything to anyone and it doesn’t matter. Who knows?
But for what it’s worth, great post Hiero, well worth putting up right about now, and hopefully will give some people pause for thought, if not there’s always the mighty hammer of ban. lol
A review is a review… The reviewer can be in his best mood ever or his worst… Dont judge what you have not tried yourself, if you don’t like the demo or the original horizon, you probably won’t like this… Probably…
Im looking forward to this game because i loved the fh(1)… Hoping they get that feel again (judging by the demo they have)
I don’t think the community will be let down on this one the expectation might be lower on some parts and higher on others… Let’s just play the game and find out… Or don’t play and stop worrying about it…
There should be plenty of streams either live or archived showing off the full game now. Those should be great resources for you all to form some early opinions of the full games’ content prior to launch. That along with the demo and the upcoming reviews of course.
