I really think that in the Rivals game mode there should first be a separation by category of cars and then a separation by id, this way, times would be compared between cars of the same category, which makes the game much more realistic and also creates a greater desire to build a good car to beat the times of other cars in the same category, I’ll give you an example, I can upgrade the ID of a Civic Type R to the ID S, but it will never compete on par with a Porsche 911 Carrera S with the same ID and that is why there should be a separation not only by ID, but also by car category (hot hatch, hypercars, supercars, muscle cars, etc.).
If someone wants to build a Civic Type R to compete with a Porsche Carrera S, that’s fine, I don’t think the options for cars from different categories competing in time trials should be removed, but there should also be the option of being able to compete with cars of the same category.
I agree 100 percent. I’ve been trying with P class and there are a bunch of different categories that should have their own leaderboards and online racing events. E.g. IMSA Group C, LMP 900, LMP P1 Hybrid / Hypercar, LMP2 etc.
After a few years you start to see a common trend of the same old typical leaderboard cars that 90% of people end up using because it’s the easy go to option.

I’m guilty of it myself, on Forza 3 before we had the F1 cars to cover X class. We could put some P / R1 cars in X class. It was the 2007 #8 Peugeot 908 lmp car that most people including myself would use for the majority of the tracks. The ARX Acura 02a 2009 lmp was the go to car for corners in X class. Finally the Aston Martin Lola 2009 was the one for speed.
As things are now it feels like a repeat is happening again. All of other cars in that category were good but not as good as those 3. Apart from the RS spyder Porsche, Audi R15 and Audi R10 to a degree.
This is just when you fully upgrade them. Then you start to see a divide in the class.
My favorite for example is the Porsche 962c group C car but I like it with the middle restrictor plate (stock) making the PI 981. That’s just my personal preference. The car is fast enough as it is. It’s the handling capabilities that needs work.
When you use end restrictor (increase air flow one) to make the PI to 995. It annihilates
everything with the speed. I love that thing to bits but it’s ridiculously OP with that upgrade. I’ve driven it with that upgrade and feels like you don’t even have to try.
Then you’ve got the Nissan R91CP that seems to be a great all rounder for the tracks with the 996 / 998 PI. However that too is also a destroyer in P class. For the corners you have the Toyota Eagle MK III with its PI to 997. It will just dominate in corners as well as being another great all rounder. Maybe these ones in particular should be separate. Have their own online events and leaderboards and class them as semi X class however I believe that there are some others as well.
My main issue with the game isn’t the cars but more so with how unbalanced the classes become when you fully upgrade the cars.
I understand that some cars are a bit better than others and that there are other factors to consider such as tuning and how well an individual can drive the car, understands it as well as their relationship to the tracks etc etc. However the difference is too ridiculous and I think a lot of people know this deep down.
It’s been like that for a long time throughout the games.
I don’t know about Forza 1 and I only played offline with Forza Motorsports 2 as that one was my very first Forza game.
However ever since FM3 there has always been this trend of overpowered leaderboard cars that that occur in P / R1 class.
Typical go to cars in past Forza games for racing online and using on the leaderboards for P/R1 class:
FM3 it was the 2007 Peugeot 908
FM4 it was the 1989 C9 Mercedes
FM5 it was the 1991 Mazda 787B
FM6 it was the 1988 Jaguar XJR-9 / 787b
FM7 it was the C9 again, however some of the others seemed a bit better this time around.
After doing this for over 10 years throughout the games it just puts you off as you get older.
I wish Forza had some kind of BOP (Balance Of Performance) system put in place like Gran Tursimo Sport and GT7.
So that the classes become an actual level playing field for everyone. Or just have sub category online events and leaderboards.
When I played GT Sport and GT7 I really enjoyed the online racing because the class system was balanced. It felt like you could pick your favorite car and not the one that feels more capable because it’s generally easier to drive. Compared to the older gran tursimos, sport and 7 were kinda terrible for me. However it did give me some of the best online races that I’ve had.
I’m not sure about the other classes but I’ve looked around at leaderboards and I think something similar happens in every class.
Sorry for the long rant I’m just sick of seeing this same old trend play out over and over.
The truth is that I really like the newest Forza game and because they spent longer developing it.
I was really hoping that they would have finally sorted out the balancing system after you’ve upgraded your car.
Hopefully they will sort something out but truth be told I’ve lost faith in seeing if racing will ever be fair for Forza. It’s upsetting because I’m part of that generation that grew up with Forza as well as GT. Over time I’ve just seen them fall as more sequels came out. The whole thing feels depressing.
