Same issue here, rivals seems to be limited to your friends and your own times.
If there is none available in this list it just presents you the fasted overall driver.
The ‘automatic rivals’ shown in career mode are affected too.

+1 to this bug.
Rivals mode used to work perfectly, now the only “Rival” I’m shown is my own best time, or the #1 driver on the leaderboard.
Does anyone know if the dev are aware of this bug, and working on it? I’ve seen no acknowledgement from them that it exists.
I’ve posted about it in their FM6 Bug List thread. I don’t know if they’re actively working on it, though they should be!
Is there any way to lodge a support ticket for this? Rivals is a core feature; the FM6 team needs to know it’s broken. (The forums are great, but it feels a bit like shouting into the wind)
This issue is effects me too. If I load rivals and select any track that I don’t have a time on, the fastest time is the default rival. I’m flattered and all, but I’m slow. I can scroll down and manually select someone but if I beat that time I become my own rival. Closing and reopening rivals menu now shows my gamer tag as the default rival on tracks I have a time on. I will try another full power cycle tonight.
Same here - tried the fix…NOPE. Guess this will be ignored too like everything else we asked for in this game.
I’ve got the same problem here and so do my friends. I’ve tried everything to sort it and was about to delete and reinstall it but I have a feeling that wont help. They seriously need to fix this.

I’m also still experiencing this. On Xbox, I don’t see any options to manually change the rival, or to toggle between friendlist/world. Rivals is my favorite game mode 
To change your rival, you’ll need to display the event’s leaderboard, then scroll through the leaderboard until you find someone you’d rather take on, then select their gamertag and then select “Set As Rival”. If you’ve already posted a time on that leaderboard before, you can quickly find a nearby rival by sorting the leaderboard to “Near Me” to save you from potentially having to scroll through thousands of players.
Thanks, this obviously helps. I’m guessing that makes this defect pretty low priority, given the easy workaround.
