Rivals. First lap....why?

I love this game. But when playing rivals, why do they start you at the starting line at a dead stand still? It would be better if you could start a rolling start before the last corner of the track. That way you don’t have to do a whole lap before you really start putting some good times down. Anyone else get annoyed at this?

Also, i wish t10 would seperate the wheel users times and game pad users times. Just a suggestion.

They’ve had rolling starts before, problem is that the AI rolling start is slower than you can do it yourself on the next lap so its kind of pointless. I wish there was a restart lap option, like the rewind but it restarts a lap at the speed I went over the line the previous lap.

You realise it takes several laps to get the heat into your tires for really good times? It also takes a few laps to get into the groove so to speak. If you’re serious about times, you’ll be happy to run many laps. If you think you can do 1 lap and be top of the boards however, you’re in for a shock. lol
Not to mention that many tracks have corners very close to the start/finish line.
Some Rivals are 1 lap only from standing start, so it’s easier to just have them all start that way.

Warm up. Plus, how do you decide where to start if it’s a rolling start ? On some tracks it would have to be several corners before the pit straight.

And don’t you just love that facepalm moment when you stuff it on your warm up lap …

It does feel good when you can see that your rival’s mistakes during the warm up! Take mental notes and all!

At the longer tracks yes it annoys me as well.

While it is not likely your first lap will be your fastest, it’s still a waste to run the first lap.

Beside that, during a lapping session I almost always will make a series of tuning adjustments and every time you do you have to restart and waste another lap.

I have to give credit to GT on this, you always have a rolling start prior to the S-F line and you can make adjustments any time during the lap.

IMO, that is a much better approach to this area of play.

If you want to make adjustments in a lap, use test drive. That’s what it’s for.
Also the first lap is never a waste.

If test drive had rewind I would. Why it doesn’t is beyond me.
When I am experimenting which is practically an infinite state, I like to have the rewind option to rerun sections of the track, not just for boo boos, but optimization.
So I run in free play most of the time but can’t tune on the fly and have to restart.

To some extent I agree, but without a rolling start it will never be a fast lap.
My comment is more in reference to restarts.

Thanks, I think I will try that.

Test drive doesnt have rewind, ghost, reward points. You can get a tune close in test drive, but you dont know what until you have until push the car. Why cant we test against a ghost.

Just put the car in reverse, drive around the last few corners and turn around for that rolling start.

Yup. I do this almost every time I play rivals. On day 2 I set a few #1 times (with an awd glitch mini) on lap #1.
Don’t hit the throttle, just put it in reverse, do a J turn and go back far enough so you can get up to top speed. Don’t get 4 wheels off the track or tap any walls though or your lap 1 will start dirty.

Personally, I don’t really mind the warm up lap, but oh boy have I cursed for dirtying my lap in the last section of the previous lap, because I was already thinking ahead and wasn’t taking enough care. Suddenly there’s another lap you have to do before you can set a fast lap.

Turn on rewind.

If you’re hotlapping in rivals, you’ll get a do you want to rewind message when you dirty the lap. If it’s in the last sector, rewind and don’t do dirty it again - when you cross the line you will start with a clean lap. Saves going around again.

Well I don’t mind doing a warm up lap. Except for Nordschleife. What you can do is just driving backwards and then take some speed to go over the finish / starting line.

The crowd funded game did it better. Rolling start on tyres already at optimal temps. I frequently set my best times on the out lap. Unless you are learning a track or are actually into spending your time warming up tyres it’s a valid option.

Starting on tyres already at optimal temperature - this would be a great feature in those super short career mode races.

I loved this feature of project cars and wish Forza did it this way.

Completely agree mick. I love not having to waste the first lap due to the way they do it. Usually my 2nd lap is still quicker if i get that far and dont restart because i get to restart at speed again. Some tracks are better than others tho depending on where it starts you and how much control you get over the last corner/series of corners.

A very good suggestion. Or, at least indicate what the player is using, Like in Project Cars.

Yeah. It seems they had a wheel indicator next to the lap times if they were wheel users in Forza4 if i remember correctly?
