As being a native of Daytona Beach, born in Halifax Hospital, there is no greater race than the 24 Hours of Daytona (in my opinion). I remember numerous occassions with my dad driving through the infield tunnels at sundown to watch the race during the night; it was free to enter the infield back then…circa 80’s. Also no lights lighting the track or infield. All you saw were the headlights from the race cars around the high banks, and the glow from the campfires. Also the smell known at Daytona and Talladega as Campfire Cologne.

I am so glad they were able to incorporate the two American Series into one very competetive USCC. This is just the beginning of what a united, diverse racing series should be. More competition=greater racing=more enjoyment for the fans and sponsers. Look forward to the coming years of a wonderful racing series.

The viewership in the US for motorsport seems to be rising. I think that’s a good sign, with F1 coming back, Sebring and Daytona as frequent stops on World Endurance Races, and maybe my boyhood dreams will be fulfilled by the WRC coming to the States. That having been said, cars with that Flying Lizard livery are among my favorites, they always run such tight cars.

Here’s to hoping that the popularity of the spirit of racing keeps climbing here in America.

Great coverage John! It was indeed an amazing race and I think the combination of the two series is what was needed for the auto racing industry. I am excited to see how this series turns out and what changes will come down the road.

Here are a few of my photos from the race.

The Deltawing sure does shine!

Ughhh! I can’t believe I missed it! I got so busy with work, i wasn’t even paying attention to the time of year. Thanks for the highlights. I’m gonna go cry in a corner now.

On a better note, I’m glad the drivers in that horrendous wreck, were ok.

I thought that was a great race. Lots of competition. The rest of the season should be great. I really need to get out and go see one of these races.

The accident was scary, I really thought something worse was going to come out of it, but thankfully both drivers will make a recovery.

Well, It is very interesting to see two of America’s big racing competitions come together. I see this giving the series a real diversity of winners, which would be a really great thing for the series.
It was really strange seeing Flying Lizard in Audi’s, it looks so different to the Porsches.
It was also good to see so many cars even I recognized from Le Mans last year…
Also, the Daytona Prototypes are such weird things…

Got to see the start of the race up to that horrific crash. Most of my race watching was near the end of the 24-hours and the controversial decision regarding the win awarded to the #45 Flying Lizard instead of the #555 Revo. After watching he Podium celebrations, I was not aware the win decision was reversed until I read your RVM story.

Thanks for posting the video of the final laps of the Lizard and Revo shows there was no contact between the two cars. However, sometime before the final caution, the two cars did bump and #45 lost some position. There was no discussion of penalties at the time.

Wow amazing how #555 kind of pushed the Audi to the outside, and that crash god was with the both of them when that happened I couldn’t see how they survived especially the driver who had hit the other driver. to be honest I don’t know much about this kind of racing but seems pretty interesting.

I hate missing it! Everytime! Oh well, I’ll get it next time. Hopefully, no one was killed in that wreck. But the Ferrari/Audi spotlight moment was pretty controversial. Although I don’t care too much for Ferrari, I give props to #55 for holding ground. Good race!

I am just glad the Ferrari got the win.

That crash withe Ferrari and the corvette was really bad, I have not seen a crash like that in a while it almost reminds me of the Earnhardt crash in the last turn of the last lap on the same track that took his life … heart stopped at that moment for the Corvette driver. Just glad that he is not dead over that crash.

Thanks for all the race coverage and replay videos You do a great job with these RVM’s and I love coming by and reading them. So thank you for that.

It’s a shame about the #62 Risi Ferrari. It’s always been one of my favourite racing Ferraris in Forza and it almost hurts to see it all destroyed. Glad the both drivers are ok.

Great race. Looks like a lot of competition this year. It’s too bad for the Risi Competizione, but glad the drivers are okay. Saw some of my favorites in this race.

Good race. I loved seeing all the different cars on track together, that’s what racing is all about. Exciting for the viewers and plenty of actions to be done by the drivers.

Thanks for another awesome RVM John! That flying lizzard R8 looks so sick, and there was some really nailbiting moments there when the Ferrari went off the track. Luckely no one got injured bad and escaped with minor injuries. And if you’re still giving out unicorns

Nice coverage of the 24h of Daytona.
But I miss that Ford developed a new Daytona Prototype for this year and nothing about the Deltawing.
The Flying Lizard R8 LMS looks amazing. Hope to see that go to Le Mans this year as well.
