Rear View Mirror - The Question Edition

This weekend saw Formula One racing in the desert of Bahrain, Long Beach racing of all kinds, the BTCC and much more,

I wanted your opinion on many things racing so I asked a bunch of questions in this RVM.

Read the story, answer the questions, maybe win some credits.

See you in the thread I hope!

John

“Look for this classic in an upcoming Heavy Metal Affliction story. Can you tell me what this is?”

I definitely can! I like the entire late lineup of that manufacturer   Since my post is so early I’ll leave the answer blank so others still have an opportunity.

Can Ferrari threaten Mercedes and take the Championship to Maranello. Well even for a Ferrari addict like me I have to admit that on current power they might come close, but not close enough. BUT if word from Sky Sport on Ferrari’s power upgrade as early as Canada proofs to be true, the tifosi’s just might smile again. Although the alleged 20 to 30 hp upgrade still seems short from that of Mercedes, it will no doubt gives the SF15-T’s V6 power unit enough horses to battle at least on even ground, if not better. So, I do think at least Rossberg is up for some more moaning, cries and tears and that Ferrari has a clear chance for the constructors championship. The drivers championship I think will be 50/50 odds, but Ferrari, crying less than their rival, will have a very good chance.

PS Well from Bahrain it seems at least that Ferrari can work on their power and will power up. In contrast it seems that Mercedes will have to work on their brakes and will be …?

As for who should get more credit re. race crew, car or driver, I guess there’s lots to argue to make a case for each one of them, but in the end it’s like asking who’s the most important of Tom and Jerry - the one wouldn’t exist without the other.

I was at the Long Beach GP on Friday… saw a Forza booth (I think) in the Expo. Fun times!

Car classes and race format.

PWC focuses on short sprint races lasting no more than 50 minutes and depending on the venue may run multiple races over the course of the weekend. They also use standing starts vs. rolling starts.

USCC runs longer endurance races like the Rolex 24 or the 12 Hours of Sebring. Their shortest races clock in at 100 minutes.

The biggest difference in the car classes is you’ll see Daytona Protoypes and P2 spec cars in USCC only.

The GT classes can get a bit confusing so it might be easier if I simply post a link to an article on Jalopnik that goes through each GT class and what series you’ll find them in.

I was at Long Beach on Friday and Saturday. Long Beach has been my yearly pilgrimage to pay homage to the racing gods for 20 years. I’ve got about 7-8 different places around the track to watch the cars and drivers. I just wish more USCC teams would be able to run at Long Beach.

I missed the PWC race but in reading various tweets and articles it seems the race looked more like a bad public lobby. Lots of post race penalties.

I wonder how the Tribunal would’ve handled the PWC incidents?
