Rear View Mirror Observation

I often drive in hood view mode. I noticed while doing so many tracks do not show the orange cones or pylons in the rear view mirror. Not all tracks but many. I can see them in the Top Gear track, I can also see them in the short track version of a Road Atlanta but not in the full track version of Road Atlanta. They are missing in most tracks. Is this a programming oversight? Someone not paying attention to detail? I noticed this problem several weeks ago when I clipped some cones and I checked the rear view to see if I left them in the road, and I saw nothing. I then noticed even cones on the side of the road were not being displayed in the rear view mirror. It’s not like it’s a problem on every track, but it is on most. Thought I would bring this to someone’s attention. I figure this game is great with all the nice little touches and attention to detail. I just thought this was silly to see that little detail was ignored or overlooked.

One of the things likely compromised to preserve frame rates.

Really? Frame rate? So why can I see them in one version of a Road Atlanta track, but not in the other? Same track, same cone placements. Seems to me if it was a frame rate issue they’d leave it out on all tracks. Consistency and quality is what I look for in a game. Makes no sense for it to be hit or miss on whether or not you get an accurate rear view.

Well, you better quit playing racing games because it’s standard for racing games to skimp on rendering in mirrors to reduce work load on hardware. The more the system renders in the mirror, the more it is rendering altogether, and it can only render so much. Object detail, texture detail, lighting effects, draw distance, et cetera are typically sacrificed to reduce the strain on the console, regardless of which console it is.

I need to quit playing racing games? I think not. I think you need to quit replying to forum posts when you don’t know what you’re talking about. There obviously isn’t one bright crayon in your box. They can render helicopters in the sky, smoke from BBQ’s in the crowd, and balloons in the air. Yet they can’t render some cones and pylons in a rear view mirror? You really are a special kind of ignorant aren’t ya?

Could someone from Turn 10 please address this issue? Wannabe techno gawds and trolls obviously have misguided opinions.
I would actually like to know if Turn 10 was aware of this issue? Was it an oversight? Is it something that can be fixed?

Not that this is an issue but I really do miss the THUD noise too when I hit a cone or pylon, that was in Forza 4 but not in Forza 5.
It’s the little things

So, you haven’t recognized that even the environments themselves - including your aforementioned balloons and helicpopters - are skimped in the mirror renderings?

In case you are unaware of how videogame mirrors work, they are not simple reflections like we have in the real world. In the videogame world, mirrors are rendered images that duplicate what is already depicted in the primary rendering but is, obviously, out of the gamer’s view.

This is why all of the cones, smoke and envoronmental items are seen when you use the rear view buttons. But, because the mirrors demand rerenderings of what is already rendered in the primary view, the secondary renderings scale back objects and particle effects to allow the game to run at the 60 FPS of which Turn 10 requires of its titles. This is how it always has been for every Forza title - I promise you.

So, feel free to call me whatever names you’d like … I’m your huckleberry. Of course, if this reasoning doesn’t suffice for your pompous needs, feel free to contact Turn 10 directly at forzafb@microsoft.com - they are not in these forums for your beck and call.

Good day.

Lol you don’t come round here much do you, I wouldn’t hold your breath about getting a reply from T10 over your super srs issue/ issues.

This forum is full of people who try very hard to help others so no need to get so cranky. As for the question it is not a big deal for me as I always try to drive and look forward and the graphics are fine that way. seeing as I don’t look in the mirror to block or crash others. If I look in the RVM it is to see how much of a lead or gap I have on the next car to make a clean lane change so the orange cones or bushes missing don’t bother me at all. There are other more important issues to fix than the orange cone missing in the rear view mirror.

I’ve noticed that you can’t see tire smoke in the rear view mirror in cockpit view either. As time progresses and developers learn the capabilities of the new console I’m sure we’ll see some of these finer details emerge in future titles.

Jonah - I’m pretty sure that arguing with other posters isn’t helping to fix this issue.

You’ve reported it. That’s great. It sure would be nice if it would be fixed. However, it’s pretty unlikely that it will be fixed so learn to live with it.
