Chase Cam Side Mirrors STILL Reflects Through The Cars!!!??? (Car is not present in side mirrors)

I hate to bring this up AGAIN. But this has been a thing since, at least, Forza 4. I only notice it when I see other people playing in chase cam. I use the in car as much as possible.

Just look at the mirror opposite of the rumble strips in each video. That is where it is most noticeable. But it also is very noticeable when driving near a bright wall

Apparently it doesn’t bother many people. Or it would have been fixed by now. But it triggers my OCD like crazy.

Can/is it really be that hard to model the car in the reflections? Or, if we are being real. The side mirrors should actually just be reflecting the the track that is on their respective sides considering the angle (its sitting high enough to reflect almost straight down) of the chase cam.

I just saw someone else point it out in the DF video, and I felt compelled to :bring it up again" like I did 2 years ago.

This was one of those “oops” things I noticed back in 4 as well. I’m sure I posted something back in the 4 forums about it! It seems like it shouldn’t be too difficult to fix.

Rendering real reflections is extremely expensive so optimisations have to be made. Even in cockpit what you see in your mirrors is at a much lower LOD than what’s in front of you. You won’t see the white lines at the side of the track in your mirrors, for example. For incidental reflections the game won’t even be drawing the scene, it’ll just be a cube map.

It would be trivially easy to “fix”, but those cycles would have to come from somewhere, and that would be from the cars or track.

Who realistically uses the side mirrors in chase cam to honestly locate cars behind? They are way too small to be really usable. I’m glad they save the system performance for important things like the car, track, and environment.

No one uses those mirrors in that view, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t work right. It’s not for gameplay reasons, it’s for aesthetic reasons. Maybe the Xbox can’t handle it, but I’m sure a PC could without any problems. If anything I would prefer they fixed the mirrors over the environment because it’s something you constantly see if driving in that view. Couldn’t they just add more if their awful looking 2D crowd to compensate?

It’s just me nitpicking honestly. I would be happy if the side mirrors didn’t reflect anything. Just seeing things on the driver side of the car (or vice versa) through the passenger mirror drives me nuts. Like I said though. I’m sure most people don’t even pay attention to it.

And, I don’t see it when I play because I use the cockpit view primarily. Unless it’s a car where you 85% of the windshield is covered. Which looks like that will be fixed with the new cockpit camera.
